The Spectre is such an under utilized characterhes basically only pulled out for huge cosmic and magical eventsidk why DC doesnt utilize him more since hes basically their ghost rider (he came out first tho) and that formula works pretty well over at marvel (human host, godlike power, enacts vengence, etc)
>>144635126I personally think he'd work best for a horror anthology, Tales From The Crypt type series like he's sort of done before.
>>144635126Doesn't he look kinda goofy though?
>>144635126Not really.
Hey quick question, I'm putting together a GURPs Campaign for my players that takes place on Earth-7642 where DC and Marvel coexist set in the late 90s. Which DC characters would be part of the Illuminati with Tony, Reed, Xavier, Blackbolt, and Strange? Namor won't be included in the Illuminati.
>>144635126Underutilised or jobber, you choose
>>144635126Because specter can solve 99% of problems he could get involved in and leads people to ask why the fuck hasn't he killed insert popular villain and the excuse given rarely makes sense. probably would work best in horror like stories that ignore the dc universe and just have him slowly enacting vengeance on a group of criminals.
>>144635126I agree
>>144637848Mr Terrific, probably
I wish they collected DeMatteis Spectre, really underrated book.
>>144639511How does it compare to Ostrander's run?
>>144635126>idk why DC doesnt utilize him moreA character that's almost literally ominpotent is very difficult to write around.
>>144640295nta but I think it's better.
>>144635126meh
>>144635126He's too powerful to have any real enemies. I'd still love to read a modern book inspired by the amazing Ostrander run.
>>144640785Interesting.
>>144636032No.
>>144643941YES!
>>144644031Nah.
>>144645695Yah-hah!
>>144635126He's a horror character pigeonholed into the role of cosmic protectorThe Spectre horror stories have a winning formula>bad guy does bad thing>bad guy gets away with it>spectre appears>You are now in the power of Stardust.jpg>bad guy suffers horrific, agonizing fate
>>144637848Hmm... Maybe Batman although Bruce would be just as likely to oppose the illuminati depending on who is writing himMr Terrific could probably serve the same role. Will Magnus could be DC's designated tech guy to balance out StarkMaybe a reformed Oceanmaster?Swamp Thing as an emissary of the GreenDr Fate would probably be on board with it or at least the Lords of Order would order him to keep an eye on the illuminati
>>144637848are the quintessence still a thing at dc?they were kinda sorta the same thinghttps://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Quintessence_(Prime_Earth)
>>144635126He pretty much existed to job for a while because he kicked too much ass through to the 90s. I don’t mind him being used less if it means it’s actually a big deal when he shows up again.
>>144646039Nope.
>>144638197Pic related is some of the absolutely stupidest shit I have ever had the misfortune to ever read in my entire fucking life.
>>144649459nuh-uh
>>144635126He's so powerful that he only really works for morality tale anthologies. The 00's series where he was basically a detective was kind of fun: his "host" gets directed to a given area and tries to figure out who he needs to punish and why, often with some kind of ironic twist. But of course, in those stories the Spectre isn't really the protagonist. They're more like old "CRIME DOES NOT PAY" comics, except that at the end the criminal gets blasted apart by the fury of the Lord rather than shot by the cops.
>>144635126The who?
>>144636032Yeah he looks goofy naked while only wearing green speedo
>>144635126You want Spectre? He appeared in Absolute Power. And got his powers promptly stolen by Amazo. The monkey's paw curls.
>>144649542Things is billshit.I know what Ostranda was going for, but c’mon.Crispus Allen should fry his ass.
>>144652611Why isn’t Crispus Spectre again?Jon Corrigan got a great farewell issue and not nu52 is outdone.
