In Days of Future Past they sent him home because he was underage, and they already got him in enough potential trouble breaking Magneto out. Why Charles didn't bother looking him up afterwards, especially since he apparently just spent the next 10 years chilling at home until he decided to go check on Charles on a whim though is a mystery.
