What are some of the most drastically different adaptations of /co/ characters?
Deathstroke in Lois & Clark is just some assassin that kills people by giving them heart attacks with his magnetism powers, and he looks like this.

The MAWS version of Brainiac is like some fucked up robot Zod instead of the real Brainiac.
>No skull ship
>Kandor instead of being a Kryptonian city is some kill sat spaceship he sits around in
>Doesn't bottle cities at all
>Zero connection to Colu, he's a Kryptonian AI instead
>Doesn't really give a shit about knowledge, is more one of those might is right villains
>Basically the embodiment of Kryptonian imperialism, wants to rebuild the Kryptonian Empire with Clark
And somehow that makes him one of the best adaptations of Zod because Zod is fucking lame and Michael Emerson is 10/10 as him.

I don't watch this series, but it seems like they are inspired by the old Superman series.

It's bizarre how they copied number 18 of Dragon Ball for this character instead of being faithful to how it was in the comic.
>>
>>144664646
was gonna say that this is actually a pretty cool version of Braniac despite the changes, I wish the kept the colour scheme since I like they made him more inhuman since like alien/robot characters to lean further from looking human but aside from the logo the colours make it harder to see his design as Braniac
>>

Supergirl's never really had a consistent character. For 15 years she wasn't even a Kryptonian, then when she came back she was a slutty alien until blowback to it made her more wholesome and sweet, then rebooted in New 52 to being more alien again, to a girlboss in rebirth to lineup with the live action show.
In the silver/bronze age she went from a teen girl Superman stuck in an orphanage to a girl with adopted parents to a college aged woman.

There was David Cross becoming a villainous version inspired by one of Hank Pym's more unstable identities, Yellowjacket. Actually became comic canon now after David Cross found one of Hank's stashes and stole a prototype suit (the new Crossfire is his brother).

>>
>>144664802
Probably a case of them only wanting one Kryptonian villain for their story. And since Eradicator's a mostly unknown villain they just used Brainiac due to STAS showing that most won't mind getting rid of Colu.
Zod not being used is probably down to them thinking he's overused.

>still retained the motivations of hoarding knowledge
>>144664646
>Doesn't really give a shit about knowledge
....sigh...
actual original and classic Brainiac was never about "knowledge"
Initially he was just alien who wanted to collect all these cities to repopulated his own world of
>Colu
or Bryak
then motivation changed and (picrel on the left while he still have pants and still isn't robot) it was him becoming a ruler "once again", then at some point in Silver Age they made him secretly a robot, but secretly because if Superman knew he is robot he would rape him immedietally since his no-kill rule doesn't extend on filthy AInners (or in case he has no super powers or needs to safe friends or if it is too powerful Parasite or Metallo brothers or Greer who almost BvSed his friend Jimmy) and he was just a reoccuring villain attempt to take revenge on Superman but just like Lex Luthor in non-Death imaginary story he was also real relaxed about it, otherwise Superman would be dead for real (as original The Death of Superman clearly shows it).
Then at some point after countless defeats and being self-shrunk into an oblivion he had his "somehow Palpatine has returned" moment and was Really https://x.com/i/status/1811900768225468915 towards Kal-El
"knowledge" is STAS/DCAU version where he collects it then blows up planet
STAS/DCAU also made him

>Zero connection to Colu, he's a Kryptonian AI instead

MAWS in the first place is SnyderVerse for "people" with negative testosterone levels, that's why Brainiac is BvS Steppenwolf (even with red dots on his forehead just like https://youtu.be/4zjXCn95kRs?t=154 ) with some of SnyderVerse Zod's motivation, SnyderVerse Darkseid brainwashing (inspired by STAS). With twink Lex, afro Perry White.
Encapsulated by Kryptonian suit with homemade red trunks.

>it is okay if I am a fucking tourist
Not really sweetie. As much of an "improvement" as McCain Deathstroke or guy in OP.

>>144665836

Modok done right is borderline a body horror with giant face stretched or shriveled over giant thing and with white eyes. It looks silly only because it is comic books drawing and comics colored, same way Superman's "blue" in (original and classic) comics isn't as bright as many people think it is "supposed" to be.If you compare it with nearby objects that you Also can find in real life (or in colored photos of 40-80s period in USA)

>dot triangle has been emblematic of brainiac since
DCAU.... and until DCAU.

I know ,sweetie, sometimes I get shell-shocked as well from the objective facts , but it is true that "iconic" 3 dots were only ever used in KRYPTONIAN Brainiac which debuted at STAS Episode #1
Which is why in Man of Steel black zero ship has those dots since it is "kryptonian" too, which is why in new52 Morrison Superman there is Brainiac back on Krypton, which also sets ups looney trooney moment of WHO came up with then NAME "Brainiac" first. But then Morrison's new52 most probably ended earlier than expected, there was definitely another question WHERE "S" reall came from, becase unlike all past Birthright origins Jor-El nor entire fucking Krypton (Birthright) doesn't wear it, it is "my father's cape", but then Who was his father? Was it original Kal-El or Kal-L? Was it Jonathan Kent (in context of comics That style of Diamond shaped S with straight lines was retconed in 60s and remained DEFINITIVE version even for 1986 reboot that it was logo designed by Jonathan Kent, Morrison with his/him (at that time) brain of researcher and mix-masher definitely knew that and per him/his (at that time) canon Jor-El's symbol is "planet" on his chest ie "science guild symbol".
But anyways.

Tri dot design Is DCAU and ONLY DCAU (except when it is particular Morrison's new52 run or Convergence ofc)

James Gunn's :
Gamora and Nebula - daughters of horrible blood father and foster father
Peter Quill - son of horrible blood father mass murderer and horrible foster father kidnapper of kids and allegedly/retconable cannibal and just overall scumbag in the gang of scumbags Peter clearly is alive due to unreasonable semi-nepotism and luck and probably superpowers
Mantis - all above
Groot - who knows, probably son of Thorr who in this version rapes people probably
Racoon - who knows, insert average horrible thing racoons do in real life towards their progeny
Rick Flag Jr. (James Gunn edition) - son of Rick Flag Sr. who handcuffed Superman => dogshit
Peacemaker - son of White Dragon who constantly abused him while being alive (The OG Joe Gill version : father was first an Army officer and later a politician, while his mother was a research scientist. He learned some skills, including flying a fighter plane from his father, and his mother inculcated a passion for science in him, Post-Crisis Paul Kupperberg version : father was ex literal NS Germany officer who kysed himself right in front of little John, rest of "abuse" is John's delusion (?) of his "ghost" and post-Frank Robbins' Batman-esque PTSD from that)
Bloodsport - son of abusive father and now he himself is kinda shitty father too, and parody on Deadshot's daughter dynamic/(")evolution(") from previous
Polka-Dot - son of horrible mother that set experiment on him and his brothers
All of these act like manchildren and even as womanchildren too!

Only good thing that ever came out of all of this is fat woman in different sizes and costume and colored by Stefan Sonnenfeld or whatever company.

Can't wait for new Jor-El/L to turn out to be dogshit badguy Mr Oz. + Bendis direction style!

The thing about the film Darren is that he wasnt orginally Darren but a character created for the film
In Edgar Wright's drafts, Darren Cross' (who back then was called Greydon Clark) alter ego would have been Nano Warrior, instead of Yellowjacket. The drafts also featured a car chase sequence. >"dunk" on fans who wanted a serious version

Why do comic book fans have such a big persecution complex? This dude can't simply have thought MODOK was silly and decided to use him as a joke, no, he did it specifically to make YOU angry.

Because Professor Pyg is so obscenely morbid within the comics (namely the part where he mutilates and breaks the minds of his victims into being mindless doll henchmen), Beware the Batman altered him completely so instead he's a hypocritical ecoterrorist that turns people into half-human half-animal monstrosities and has a toad man for a second in command.
>>
>>144670969
Ah yes, the show that was made before you were born totally killed capeshit.
Frogniggers should all be killed.

Professor Pyg is the worst of the nu villains and easily Morrisons worsf creation that's had any traction.

I love how you can find shit like this for every Marvel character Kirby created.
All you have to do is compare his and Lee's previous output and you can tell who really was instrumental.

Alright, maybe I was a bit too harsh.
So here's the thing, for some reason 90s capeshit shows were not very eager on adapting comic book villains and at times took some ridiculous liberties. Maybe it was budget, maybe it was something else.
There was a show based on Marvel's Malibu imprint called Nightman and it barely had anything to do with the comics aside from the main character's origin and costume.
I know nowadays with all the capeshit oversaturation this doesn't seem like a big deal but when the series in the OP used Metallo for one episode it blew my mind because it was refreshing compared to human villains like Lex Luthor, Intergang (who are pretty much generic gangsters in the series, really) or Prankster.
My best guess is that nobody among the writers even knew who Deathstroke was and just coincidentally happened to create a villain with the same name. More likely than you think considering CW used a famous DC villain Scimitar. There's no villain called Scimitar in DC comics despite the writer's insistence.

>Deathstroke in Lois & Clark is just some assassin that kills people by giving them heart attacks with his magnetism powers, and he looks like this.
Antonio looks good in that, the material is actually a bit more forgiving (and he had a better body) than just spandex, especially without the sheen.

Beyond that, for a 'magnetism' villain, the gray and black are a better look than say Mags (who looks awful in animation BECAUSE it's comic accurate) and only looks good in the white outfit in X-Men II but that was intended to be a play on a straitjacket and mental institution patient outfit.

Also, deathstroke just otherwise is an enhanced mercenary assassin. "Death" and "Stroke" tied to killing with a heart attack actually, frankly, makes more sense.

In the days of Universal Soldier and the like, why would ABC or WB TV studios want to adapt an enhanced former military into something OTHER that Not That.

Just goes to show that execs have no clue and that women and their stories make them uncomfortable. This is the only reason Wonder Woman keeps getting retooled and keeps failing.

Ofc at the end of the day it is all assumptions on My part, but interesting how original Iron Man looked straight up like Original Metalo without his cape until Ditko did red and gold suit.
Or how original Spiderman had pirate boots just like Captain American and X-Men people

>>144671198
look, I just find it interesting how there is a clear pattern at play and how many characters similar really
And regardless of Your opinion whether xenomorph+Conduit sex result with guns straight up from NERF(tm) (following Harrison Ford logic blaster good, real gun bad , I guess) and with MCU Iron Man/Gotg nanotech modding on the spot is Cooler than basically video games shooter protag with infinite arsenal spawning out of thin air (years before even Wolfenstein 3D) as a super villain
Or that clearly Deadshot stand in who served is a better even from comedy standpoint than a draft dodger that pretends to be war veteran.
But fact remains the same and that is all his characters (so far) are same thing as >>144670742 >>144666255 and especially >>144664377

like what? tv show produced by Man of Steel writer that already referenced STAS Brainiac, which again, isn't comics Brainiac, never was (aside tie-ins ofc) and his 3 dots aren't "emblematic" at all
And this is non-comics example ie >>144664377
>What are some of the most drastically different adaptations of /co/ char
>>
>>144673000
Not him, but even if you're right, DCAU was allowed to be "emblematic" because they had the ability to take the entirety of comics history and pick out what they wanted to keep, what they wanted to retool, and what they wanted to create from scratch, in order to achieve the setting they wanted. Other adaptions simply aping off DCAU prevents them from being the next emblematic adaption to the current generation.
>>
>>144673048
Yes, but that's because the new creators are less talented than the ones in this series.
>>
>>144673013
>his 3 dots aren't "emblematic" at all
False
>>
>>144670785
Unless there is some book Superman or unexpected pre-Brainiac Brainiac in a way there was ,in 1940, K-metal (that just made Superman powerless and a man... Super, instead of also slowly killing Clark) before there was Kryptonite
Maybe 3 dots also were from somewhere before, same how Black Zero got reinterpretation from criminal that blew up Krypton in Earth-1 continuity to a cult in Byrne era to terraforming thingy (with 3 dots on it) in Man of Steel film that was about to blow up Earth

Some of the others may have them different relative sizes and arrangements or sub plug jacks but they're still there. It takes a special kind of disingenuous to pretend they're not an integral part of his design since "classic" Brainiac was established
And make that 2 depicted examples, not 3. I didn't take a good look at golden boy's head.
