Pretty much all VAs who can do multiple voices can actually act, because they’re capable of being expressive with their voices. The older ones are required by industry to do the same standard lines in the same standard tones (speeds up production, you don't have to animate to their voice, it's already animated, and their voices are put on inoffensive, minimal range, already animated scenes that have a specific type of voice acting in mind already), and the younger VAs coming up mimic cartoon and anime dub voice acting because they grew up with it therefore think that's what "good" is, or the people making projects require it. They won't get jobs actually acting or deviating from that style. For big budget it's faster, marketable, and cost effective. Indie’s also prefer it for other reasons. Pick any youtube indie animation they do the same thing. It's things like a female main who doesn't use contractions "I do not understand!" vs "I don't understand," breathy voice acting they huff out the last word in a line or do gasping sounds, effeminate male voice for the male sidekick who is either a cool dude who is with meanies right now but supports female mc, or just simps for the female mc. There's less obvious trends that are harder to describe, but look for patterns and you'll find them. These tropes used right make it easy to put out mass marketable and inoffensive products with less labor. Indie’s want the same voices as they often want to take those tropes, but make them more complex, like show how nerdy girl is nerdy and isolated, but when you remove the simple set up they can’t use the same pacing and dialogue options as mainstream projects so they struggle.
