The 70s, 80s or 2014 to now?
>>
2010s to now

>adventure time, steven universe, gumball, regular show
it all started there

70s were fucking trash in ways that make me almost like modern cartoons, gotta be the 70s. 2014 - now is close behind it though.

2014-present is bad, but the 70s still top as the worst fucking slop on this planet.

Choosing between hanna barbera shit of the 70s and Reagan commercial toons of the 80s is like choosing between shoving broken glass or fire ants up your cock

Right? Thank God they put in more regulations for cartoons! Imagine if they hadn't. We'd be flooded with action cartoons every season and never have time for anime. Gross.
>>
We can still go back and watch old cartoons, so today isn't as bad as the older days.

60s-70s by far. Endless fucking low effort rehashes. absolute bottom of the barrel, corner cutting "animation" that has less frames than a page of a comic and rendered absolutely stupid, dumb and toothless by the hays code and moral guardians. Just so fucking boring all, literal fucking slop that was made to occupy the kids too retarded to break out a deck of cards on a rainy day. Atleast with even the most depraved modern cartoons, you experience them in a different ecosystem, where you can just tell them to fuck off and choose any of the petabytes worth of content out there, but back then, if that was the only thing going on your woodbox TV, then you were just FUCKED.

70s was prime for adult cartoon movies though, Ralph Bakshi films, Tarzoon Of The Jungle, Dirty Duck, etc.

Asking this question reminds me of when this one rock music fan asked "when was the worst era for rock, late 70s, late 80s, or last ten years" and I'm like "bruh" anyone who says any period before 2010 is smoking crack
It doesn't matter what the historians say was "bad" just because they were obsessed with a particular genre and another genre they hated was popular (like punks hating glam rock and disco)
Nothing compares to the sheer NOTHINGNESS and pathetic state of the scene of the past 15 years

That's this. That's Western (and even Eastern) animation ever since the rise of the internet, shift to digital, emergence of Fandom culture, and global homogenization of culture. Yes, it may be more "diverse" with a much larger and more prominent indie scene than was even possible in previous decades, but everything that can be done has been done, there is no big "thing," not much new fresh blood is coming in, and mainstream media is actively killing the indie scene by pretending very vaguely "activist" media in the mainstream IS the underground
It's actually very similar to the state of rock music now that I think about it, even down to rock/pop journalists claiming that utterly milquetoast vaguely center-center-center-leftist poptimist artists like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish are just as radical as Rage Against the Machine and Crass
And then there's the issue of AI now, which is its own double edged sword because on one hand, it shits all over the legacy and history of the artists who came before and renders all the time, effort, and passion necessary to succeed moot. And yet on that exact same blade, that is the very same reason it COULD bring some passion back counterintuitively by getting rid of the nepotism barrier and capitalist "you gotta be rich to succeed" mindset and giving anyone with an idea the chance to get that idea out there rather than watering it down, but it's still too soon to see (and use effectively)
