How many people familiar with Dredd 2012 do you think read the comics?
>>
>>
>>145134009
I loved the 2012 movie and I read the occasional story time/limited run. I think the last Dredd Comic I read was the America one.

are the comics any good?
>>
>>145137147
All the Dredd comics are good. Some are a little light on continuity. Some of the other 2000AD stories arn't always winners, but they try.
>>
>>145137147
They're a blueprint on how to run a comic book universe. It moves in real time. Major events have consequences that don't just get forgotten about next issue. Characters are fairly consistent with slight changes being excused by new experiences and the passage of time. Capeshit should take notice.
>>
>>145138318
If real time is your thing, have you read the New Universe comics from the 90s? It tried, it failed.
>>
>>145134009
I like how this comic actually respects and appreciates the Stallone movie. That movie opened the door for me to the fan I am now.

Does the rest of the comment apply to New Universe?

Urban's movie with Stallone's costume and set design

I didn't enjoy the movie, though I don't like superhero movies in general.

im reading the original stuff now and its not bad but it just feels dated at times. i prefer color too im dumb
>>
>>145134009
I don't because there's so much out there and while 2012 is fun and a lot of the stuff that gets regularly posted is fun, it's not something I like enough to deep dive into Dredd.
>>
>>
>>145143012
yeah super early dredd is very much a series for young british boys in the 70s but it finds its groove later on
>>
>>145139574
How is it a superhero movie?
>>
>>145134009
Having read the comics well before, the 2012 movie was great. Really captured the core feel of Dredd. You could nitpick on details, but I'd rather the feel was spot on.
So many comic adaptations are far worse.
>>
>>145134009
Like the people who made it or the people who watched it? If the latter, I'd guess most of them, since it didn't do too well in theaters, wasn't a summer action movie starring peak Stallone to draw randoms in, but was pretty well received by existing fans of the comic (unfortunately, most of them are either old, poor, or- worse- British, so their tickets can't keep a studio afloat).
>>
>>145143930

Let's be honest, Dredd is to all intents and purposes a superhero. Inhuman levels of endurance and stamina, ability to survive horrendous wounds (guy should have bled out a hundred times by now), encyclopaedic knowledge of The Law and an almost preternatural ability to sniff out lawbreaking by sheer intuition, dude's got superpowers.

Loved the movie but I doubt it brought any new fans to the comic. Such a shame, Dredd's pretty damn fun comic-verse.

There were a few Urbanverse tie-in comics, although sadly they weren't really properly promoted. They should have been handing these out in the theaters.

Quick storytime for the prequel minicomic. Bit lowres sorry.

I seen shots of the apocalypse war arc and it looks kino but I just don’t have the desire to get into dredd hardcore and I also don’t want to start it from the beginning.

If there was ever going to be another Urbanverse Dredd movie, I think a decent story to adapt would be Mandroid. It's a very downbeat story that suits the bleak and gritty version of Mega-City One from the 2012 movie. You could tie it in to another movie series and release it as "Dredd: Death Wish". Imagine if Paul Kersey was a military cyborg and you basically have the story.
>>
>>145145546
It would definitely have to be the smaller-scale stories. I can't imagine them doing Cursed Earth, Judge Child Quest or even the Democracy storylines any justice within a two-hour movie at most.

To me it would be pretty cool if each movie was it's own self-contained thing.

Are you serious? They're some of the best comics ever. The first 10-15 years of Dredd is as good as comics get.
>>
>>145134274
Funny that Karl Urban played both Billy Butcher and Judge Dredd. And in The Boys Season 3, Billy Butcher kills the Judge Dredd parody.

Urban is to busy with The Boys so it won't happen to that show is over.

I was pretty familiar with Dredd prior to the 2012 movie. Was going through my mom's stash of comics and found a good number of the old Eagle and Fleetway/Quality American reprints from. The 80's and 90's. Loved the black humor and satire, really spoke to my teenage brain back then (still kind of does). I think the best way to describe Dredd is that he's anti-hero and while you may root for him in some instances, he's ultimately the bad guy at the end of the day. The justice system is incredibly flawed as is Mega-City 1
