There were interesting concepts like how Serpentor was made from Megatron or Cobra-La allowing Decepticons to become pretenders with their tech in the Devil’s Due continuity.This is more to do with ROM but the Dire-Wraiths being able to take over cons and how they interacted with each other was fun too.The problem however is that none of that shit went anywhere and nothing worthwhile came out of it and the stories weren’t well thought of.

>>145504179The problem with all those old Transformers vs GI Joe comics in the Devil's Due and Dreamwave era was that everything was just a mini, so no matter how interesting a concept they came up with, the story always had to be resolved and the bad guy defeated within that one mini. Even the IDW crossover book was telling a finite story over 14 issues, and throwing a load of high concept ideas into every issue, more than it could ever fully develop. The Energon Universe being an ongoing thing over (hopefully) years means they have time to slow the pace down and give things space to breathe.Mentioning Serpentor makes me wonder how long it'll be before they get to him, most GI Joe reboots never last long enough to get there. Since we're just seeing Cobra forming now, it'd probably be easier to do what Hama did, and have Serpentor be the product of an attempt to create a super-soldier, and nobody stops and thinks about it, and realizes this guy will be hardwired to be The Leader, rather than an attempt to create a new leader because Cobra Commander's failed a gorillion times and everyone's sick of him.

I think the Decepticon antics is a little overt, with them killing an entire aircraft carrier and mulching entire whale pods and underwater ecosystems.But the GI Joe stuff is not quite the nonsense kill them all vibe from IDW.
