The reason why webcomics have been losing readers to webtoons is because of their outdated format. Webtoons are designed to be read on a smartphone. Most webcomics still do not have a mobile view as of 2024. Phones and tablets have been overtaking desktops for many years now. Yet many webcomic authors still expect their audience to read their comics on a computer. This is why webcomics are struggling to attract new readers and that the majority of their audience is the ones that have been reading since the 2000s.
