In honor of Doctor Doom currently participating in Mr. /co/, I am doing storytimes of a different Doom-focused comic for every round he's in.

I wanted to start with something short and sweet, so today it will be a double feature of a couple of short Silver Age Doom stories that both establish some of the iconic elements of his character.

No better place to start than "The Fantastic Origin of Dr. Doom" from Fantastic Four Annual #2. This is where Doom's backstory was first created, and although some beats were changed over the years, the core basics it established stood the test of time.

And now we jump a few years forward, to a story from Astonishing Tales #8, which was a pretty much anything-goes-anthology book. Don't quote me on this, but this MIGHT have been the first time Marvel published a story where a villain character was the protagonist (there was Namor before, but he was always more of an anti-hero).

>Disfigured in a scientific experiment caused by his own arrogance
>Travels to remote Tibetan monastery to learn magic like Doctor Strange
>Builds a nuclear powered suit of flying power armour while trapped in a cave like Iron Man
>Overthrows the king and takes his place
All this cool stuff happens while he’s still young and before he ever puts the armour on, I feel we’ll be cheated out of it again by casting 60 year old RDJ. What a weird decision
