It was going to be one of those runs ever since they announced the writer:
>Responding to the Jeremiah Wright controversy surrounding Obama's campaign, Ackerman, a contributor to online group JournoList, stated "If the right forces us all to either defend Wright or tear him down, no matter what we choose, we lose the game they've put upon us. Instead, take one of them – Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares – and call them racists".
>Ackerman was also quoted as saying, "find a right winger's [sic] and smash it through a plate-glass window. Take a snapshot of the bleeding mess and send it out in a Christmas card to let the right know that it needs to live in a state of constant fear. Obviously, I mean this rhetorically."
>>
>>146061072
>Even one of your Avengers allies is with us.
Who?
>>
>>146061129
>I mean this rhetorically
ok that's kinda funny.
ironically Ackerman made the core Villians of this arc at least way more Woke than Tony being a bunch of ethnically diverse new money girl bosses fighting Tony an Old Money WASP

Even knowing this >>146061129 I still gave it a chance because I figured hey, people grow, they can at least refine their craft. I was expecting bias, but when he described this as Succession-like, I expected some genuine satire at the industry. But no, it's literally
>if you're against my politics you're literally Hitler and DEI isn't a thing, bigot!
in literal twitterspeak. What's here for an old Ironfag like me to keep giving it 5.5€/month? The "boardroom politics" are simple. It's another
>Tony loses the heckin company
plot at its core. Oh boy, he brought back some minor characters, what a move! I guess they're going to build up to Tony getting into magic properly, which is the hook, but it's just going to be the reverse of Waid's Strange run where Stephen started using space magitech. It'll amount to nothing, like all the times Tony tried to get into magic, and that'll be it. Tony will get another company by the end of the run, we'll spend 1.5 years of him slowly building his steampunk armour, and then the next writer will come in and re-do the basic plot all over again. I'll give it a few more issues, but it's pretty bad thus far IMHO.

Also, why is the art so bad? Tony literally looks like a 60 YO anorexic.

>>146061184
>Tony literally looks like a 60 YO anorexic
I think it meant to show he was in hospital for a long time and lost a lot of muscle mass when he was going through physiotherapy. It doesn't make a lot of sense to only lose them in a couple of weeks though it's not like Tony was in a Coma for months
>>

>>146061017
In an issue full of terrible, stupid things this might be the top one. Does the writer have investments in a lootbox gambling site or something?

>>146061144
Standard for their kind of brain damage. Diversity in all things, even when it hurts the integrity of the story.
>>
>>146061184
More or less agreed with everything you've said.
It feels odd and entirely out of left field heh for civilians in-universe to suddenly start calling Tony "woke," when AFAIK Tony's never done anything woke in the past and certainly doesn't actually do anything woke or DEI-tinged in this issue here, unless you want to count "listening to unions" and "wanting to take back his company and stop manufacturing weapons and killer robots" as woke, which would be stupid.
Obviously it's meant to be a world outside your window deal, trying to reflect the current US political climate, but at best it feels like Ackerman simply hasn't put any actual thought into these comments and why Marvel citizens might be making them. At worst, yeah -- it does just seem like Ackerman saying "everyone who complains about this is a big dumb stupid internet idiot with no real reason to complain [and deserves their face through a hypothetical window]"
What's more artistically offensive to my sensibilities is that it's gonna be yet another "Tony loses the company, Tony makes a new suit, Tony gets the company back" storyline. How many times has that happened by now? Can Marvel seriously not think of any other angle for an Iron Man run?
>Tony literally looks like a 60 YO anorexic.
In the comic's defence, the whole point is that he's been in hospital for months.
>>

Thanks OP. This was pretty bad, but that's par for the course for modern Iron Man runs.

This is just embarrassing (somehow even more so than the social media shit and left wing posturing). You're telling Stark had NO fall counter-measures of any kind built in for this exact situation after all these years of super-heroing. You're telling me no one in-universe can help him heal quickly from the fall? This is so contrived, it's just bad writing, things happening because the plot says they have to happen.

Literally the leftist rethoric is that anything good ever done is woke. Hence they always go for "why do you protest now and you didn't before" counterarguments. To them Tony(and pretty much every super hero) was always woke.

supported mutants, fought against his company when it was helping kill mutants, is friend with multiple superheroes of varying minorities, repeatedly talks against making weapons and tries to get his company out of making weapons, etc. If you think this wouldn't warrant randos calling him woke nowadays, you're not aware how stupid public discourse is.

>WEAPONS HECKIN KILL I MAKE NO WEAPONS I AM A TORMENTED GENIUS WHO WEARS A LITERAL WMD TO PUNCH ROBOT ALIEN WIZARDS BUT GUNS ARE HECKIN BAD FOR NATIONS TO HAVE, M'KAY?!
>anyway, as a certified supergenius, I think that what my company should focus on making now is gambling!
What the Hell is wrong with these people? Just how goddamn hard is it to write Iron Man? He's a cool supergenius billionaire with tech who wears a badass suit. How do you screw that up? Literally just have him running around the globe in MGS-esque plots with some good art and that's it. That's all you need. But we're 12 years since Fraction's run ended and we're still, literally, doing the
>Tony loses company and goes back to scraps
with
>le ebin thinly veiled political background/strawman
story. Again. Again. And again. Why? Who enjoys reading this nonsense? Who goes
>boy, I sure want to see more debris and shitty rundown apartments where the guy in the t-shirt whines about money
when reading an Iron Man book? Just... what? Succession worked because it was HBO and was carried by the acting. It felt like a rich show because they had the cash for the sets and clothes and everything. In contrast Billions was very small scale and cringy because they had none of that. This Iron Man run is literally just Billions trying to be Succession, but it can't because it's missing everything.

And I'll ask once more; who is this for? Literally? Normalfags know Stark as the quipster with cool gadgets. Ironfags want to see the old, more hardcore Tony who was more like James Bond than anything. The average capefag just wants something cool. So who is the 10th story about Tony losing his company and fighting heckin evil weapon-makers for? It's not new, it's not interesting, it's not cool, it's not well-written or drawn, it's just goddamn trash on all fronts.

I just don't understand it at this point...

They're just acknowledging it as a thing that happened. Start complaining when they actually shove Emma into this book.

Comics in general aren't successful. Marvel is actually doing reasonably well as far as comics go.

Tony replying to culture war faggots on Twitter feels incredibly below him. He's in the top 5 smartest guys on earth and he's saved it countless times. He should be reading scholarly articles, or news about world affairs.
It doesn't even sound right for Marvel citizens to call him woke. My understanding is a lot of the world hates Tony because no matter what they see him as the weapons manufacturer. And he feels like he deserves it, so he doesn't revel in any good deed he does. It would make more sense for people to treat him like Elon Musk, but he's more of a saint in his personal life. Is he woke because he doesn't want to genocide mutants? That's the only way I can think to justify this.
I was looking forward to this run, but now I don't think I'll continue it.

What the fuck is this union guy's problem? First, he wants to keep his job. Tony says he'll keep his job. Then he wants a say on what him and his coworkers build, and they want to build artillery shells for some reason. If he wants a say in what to build, he should look for a new job or start his own fucking factory. Tony isn't gonna perpetuate the military industrial complex because some retarded American wants to keep making shit that blows up brown people.
