Do nobody who does webcomics come to /co/ anymore?
>>146124595I do but I experienced the demise of HYW and don't want to be involved in it again. I just lurk. Post comics if you make them.

>>146125833Spammer flooded the threads
Wait, so these threads are up again?I thought you guys moved to newgrounds...After a long hiatus, I'm finally working on my webcomic again, The Eye of Vyrius. It's kinda been blowing up as well, got #15 for drama comics on Tapas. I've been wanting to post here again! Used to have a comic called Barako the Pirate which was pretty horrendous, with terrible artwork, and used to post it here as well... I deleted it in shame, and lost the hard drive it was on...
>>146128176Unfortunate you lost it. I think it's kinda nice to keep old stuff even if it's kinda crap, to see how far someone has come. What kind of drama comic is your new one about?
>>146128548Its about a 5 year old called Reizt dealing with an abusive father, a crazy sister and school bullies, all in a fictional version of Australia in the 90s and early 2000s called Touran. There's action fantasy elements to it as well, although its generally kept to a minimum, with kids being assigned at birth magic weapons, and there being magic and monsters as well in the setting.Based on a terrible rpg maker game of the same name, as well as my own experiences growing up...Thanks for showing an interest!
>>146121810I've never really posted here, but I figured, 'Why not?'My comic is Rogue Platonics, mostly a comic to help me learn to draw, but the main creatures are Shape-Headed people living under the tyranny of King Plato. The two MCs, Abel and Eris, are running from an evil monster when they find themselves attacked by the creator of a dangerous labyrinth deep underground.https://rogueplatonicscomic.tumblr.com/BTW, since when THE HELL do I have to wait 15 minutes to make one stupid post on a peruvian basket-weaving site??
Seeing this in the wild is like coming across a Japanese soldier in the jungle who didn't know the war ended

>>146129837Lol, moments later, I read on the FAQ that they introduced the 15 min. wait time as an anti-spam measure. Thanks, BTW. I deeply respect the panelling from HunterxHunter
Finished page 50 of Chapter 4 just in time for Halloween, on to page 51. May tweak further upon second review when all the pages are finished.
Been slowly editing chp 20, 19 should come out in a week or so... and I've began sketching chp 21, and started scripting 23.

>>146132355yes well, if you've seen my comics, I'm pretty cheeky about the weeb stuff.
>>146132432Is it or is it weeb stuff without the layer of irony? I'm not pulling a gotcha here or anything, I just tire of the irony poisoning I see online.
>>146132455make of it what you want. my comics are not really intended to be ironic though.
>>146132530Well, I do love your character design and execution there, it's very lovely.
>>146132565thanks
>>146132299Well the comic is done but I’m still doing extra pages for the Kickstarter so I’m still technically working on it. After that I’ll take a little break.
>>146124595It isn't that we aren't on /co/ it's that we don't want to hitch our comics to a community infested with lolcow tier spergs. There's a structural flaw in this kind of un-curated group where the worst creators are the ones most likely to spam their work in every thread. So people get sick of seeing the same shit they weren't interested in and bounce which leaves the spammers as the sole contributors which causes new talent to get bored and leave. And the cycle goes on until the group dies again.Call me a snob if you want but a quality group needs gatekeeping.
>>146132998>it's that we don't want to hitch our comics to a community infested with lolcow tier spergsAnd yet you post it on Twitter, a place with such "prestigious" figures such as CWC, hmm...It sounds more like you're a coward afraid you got caught posting on 4chan.
>>146133123Not that anon but lets be real, no one gives a shit now if you post your stuff on here. There's been plenty of webcomic and big comic creators who posted shit here with nothing happening to them. James Stokoe storytimed Orc Stain and posted exclusive work years ago.Donny Cates storytimed Atomahawk before he hit it big. There's plenty of other larger webcomic creators who started here too. Someone pointing out you post on /co/ isn't as much of a 'gotcha' anymore.
>>146133214With the elections, I feel it is a gotcha once more.
I took a long break but when I posted again my pages did well
>>146133123>And yet you post it on Twitter,Strawman if you want to but I didn't say anything about posting your comic anywhere being the problem, it's being a permanent fixture in /hwy/ that people don't want to be a part of. That's why talent doesn't stick around for long, because genuinely obnoxious people fester without improving.
>>146132998I agree. but I'm getting about 1 or 2 likes on social media. and I am on 4chan a lot, so I'm like fuck it.
>>146121810Recently finished the first chapter of my webcomic. It was a lot of work.
Question for the whole thread: How long do you take inking a whole page?>>146134597Those two panels take me back to the past in a good way. It has 00s newgrounds energy.>>146134020Growing in social media, I don't feel like doing fanart and when I do it's not shit that's "hip" with the mainstream, I hate it. A friend got followers from fanart but nobody gave a shit about his comics, it was painful to see.
>>146134020Hey, I made that meme!
>>146131604It's the backstory for a Character I played in a campaign with friends. Throwing in this Lore chapter to inform those unfamiliar with the setting and also feed some of those already fans of the game. >>146129985Nah, I'm not going to spam the thread with 45+ pages, but I will post the very first page of the comic and you can decide if you want to read it on webtoons or Tapas (Not sponsored, and I kind of really hate the UI for both sites, but it is what it is) https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/the-phoenix-knight-/list?title_no=896183https://tapas.io/episode/2937429
>>146134864The best way for a webcomic to grow is through word of mouth but now even that's becoming insanely difficult. Lord have mercy upon you if you're not doing a gag-a-day then you'll be struggling harder to get noticed. Every time we have a webcomic thread on /co/ it always kinda urks me how there isn't new reading recommendations everytime. It's always the same shit, the same webcomics recommended everytime. I get it that people have their favorites but we're in a day where the amount of stuff you've got available is way larger yet you're not finding a new one to check out at least once or twice every couple months? Or could just be a symptom of the shrinking userbase that reads comics on here.
>>146135385>Or could just be a symptom of the shrinking userbase that reads comics on here.Having been on /co/ since the board was created I think this, while not the whole answer, is the biggest reason. I see /co/ turned into a consumeristic board interested only on properties. They also complain about it but mainly consume media from big corporations, especially DC and Marvel, there isnt even much Viacom material these days here as far as big corporations go.
>>146135495The second point is so damn right. A worse trend I'm seeing on here is that if it's not already popular/big on twitter/social media then most people here won't want to engage with it. I remember when people self-posting their comics would hit the comment limit before day was over. Now? At most you'll see people hit the limit of their comic with one or two side comments before it's kicked off the catalogue. It's pretty damn sad to see.
>>146134864Which two panels? For me it takes a whole day to ink, about 9 hours.
>>146135770The last two, I should've specified.
>>146135756>if it's not already popular/big on twitter/social media then most people here won't want to engage with it.I've noticed this too and I don't get why this is the case. And it comes with another baggage: "it's big/popular therefore it's shit", seeing how much spite and disdain there's for that elf girl webcomic or Nerd and Jock while still bootlicking the so-called "big two".
>>146134864>Growing in social media, I don't feel like doing fanart and when I do it's not shit that's "hip" with the mainstream, I hate it. A friend got followers from fanart but nobody gave a shit about his comics, it was painful to see.people tend to flock to what's popular. thus making it more popular. it's stupid but its true.
>>146135379This looks great

what happened to the starry ladders?
>>146130149neat costume pic for the season.
>>146136267Haven't come upon anything super amazing recently. Was enjoying beyond the veil when it was talked about a while ago. Only a single chapter so far but was a decent starter.
>>146121810Hey I walk into /co/ for the first time in weeks and see a thread. We must still have a psychic connection between us. I went into semi-hiatus after consulting with someone to recontextualize my story to give it the best possible chance of landing a publishing deal. I didn't realize how deep of a hole I dug myself by winging most of the plot. I also went full schizo and removed myself from social media but that ended up working out for me, I've been focusing on my studies without worrying what to post & how often. I'm seeing some considerable gains so I can't wait to get back into the game, hopefully as a pro this time, kind of like the fat kid that comes back from summer break all jacked.
>>146137966>consulting with someone to recontextualize my storyWe all need that one editor friend, din't we?>publishing dealOh hey, nice.>winging itDoes it help if I tell you many of my favorite authors winged their stories and wrote on the spot?>schizoSorry to hear but then again we're here forever
>>146137966What comic, anon?>>146136555It's completely scrubbed, 404's all around
>>146137978For sure everyone has a different method and I would love to be a pantser but a big source of my anxiety was not having a clear path to get from A to B. I have written down all the major plot points and even have full scenes broken down, which of course are the most exciting ones for me. But as soon as I hit a roadblock I kept locking up and not drawing for days because I was stressing about it. Having a full blueprint works for me and apparently publishers like that too if they're even remotely interested.>>146138021One that hasn't updated in a while.

>>146131223Haha thanks. Too bad I didn't plan a wrestling arc... and I've already got a clear concept of the next arcs all the way till the end >>146132299It's pretty silly overall, but it does have a plot that is slowly progressing.
>>146121810A motivational poster.Starring Id, the phantom girl.
If I'm an artist should I bother with writing a script?Normally I write a plot summary and move on to do thumbnails/storyboards but I been wondering if doing a script could save me time or effort, would it be easier to polish a script rather than thumbnails?I am planning a comic that'll be inspired by early 00's edge like The Authority, The Ultimates and Planetary and back then there was a strong writers first culture in comics. I also been having this creative rush for comics I know I wouldn't be able to make for years and I feel writing them down as full scripts will help me release them years after I wrote them, I already made thumbnails for the first draft of those stories and I feel it was an unwarranted effort. But what do you guys think?
>>146139216Yeah, go for it. Make your scripts, then keep refining them until they're perfect.
any guides on how to draw fight scenes? i feel like mine are too "posey" and not dynamic enough
>>146139560References, lots of references.Pinterest is a good place to find some. Though a lot of my fight scene inspiration comes from the One Punch Man manga, which I also recommend using for references.
>>146139560>>146139582Also dynamic lines for the use of "smears" rather than fully drawn lineart to give a sense of movement.
I have a whole script and comic set up but man I literally just cannot draw backgrounds to save my own life. I feel like every single idea I ever have falls through because of my own technical limitations, even for basic stories shit like backgrounds and even inanimate objects just ruin it for me whenever I try to make something of substance. Its annoying especially when it's so difficult for me to get a idea down in the first place
>>146139560Crank everything up to eleven.
>>146138795kinda cool character. Is the hair sorta like a prehensile tail or it just floats about?
>>146125067Armor design is looking nice. The treads are an interesting element.
>>146137870You may have to wait a teeny bit longer for the next chapter of Beyond the Veil to come out. I have dramatically altered my approach to both my social media presence, and the comic’s that I’m focusing on.I actually decided to reply to this thread to announce that I’ve started a new webcomic called Wish Fulfillment. Pic related, she’s the main character. check it out here:https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/wish-fulfillment/list?title_no=992494It’s been running on a select few sites for 2 months now and so far the response has been very positive. After I finish the first “episode”, I plan on doing a storytime thread to let /co/ enjoy it/pick it apart. In regards to BytV, I’m planning on having the second chapter along with it’s corresponding interlude chapters made and posted sometime in January. I plan on running both series’s concurrently with WF being the frequent poster, and BytV being an infrequent slowburner. with all that said, I’d love to hear what you all think.
>>146142133Ooh looking real good.
>>146140025I just trace over sims 2 screenshots
>>146138364>Get to point B and worry the details later if posible. You can pass it as mystery where applicable. It's almost like you didn't read the post. Some people can't do that and need to follow a script. >>146140025You need to start learning perspective immediately. This is the roadblock that's setting you back.
Mine still has a pulse (and so do I, surprisingly).
>>146142099Thank you, they're basically military grade wheelies. It's kind of stupid but the original idea of the armor(s) was to make suits with the capabilities of vehicles. (like a tank for example) I'd show you the scrapped versions, but I'm not home right now.
>>146139216pls respond
>>146143523Okay, okay, fine. Don't cry, you goober. I'm in a similar boat. As I see it, a storyboard is just a visual form of script. Unless you're doing the lowest grade stick figures possible, it's going to inherently be less time intensive to revise words rather than drawings, so yes. Typing takes far less time and skill than drawing, with about as much thought as writing. There are people who will say that visual mediums like cartoons should be storyboarded, but I think as long as you write with how that will be drawn in mind, on paper you should be okay. Keep in mind however that my output is atrocious for unrelated reasons, so take this with a grain of salt.
>>146143633*drawing, which takes about as much thought as writing anyways.Typo.
>>146143182a cat is fine, too.
>>146143633>>146143645That makes sense, thank you.
>>146135385>>146135495>>146135756Adding to this, if you've noticed the skill ceiling people expect from their online web comics has risen exponentially. There's no way anything that looks like early Penny Arcade or Megatokyo would grow, or sprite-comics using pre-existing sprites as base either. I noticed this shift way back in... I recall 2008? when people shat hard on Scott DeWitt's art for his webcomic Fanboys Online if anyone remembers it. People shat hard on his skill at the time so much he put the comic on hiatus until he returned with a much more improved, better looking artstyle. But then it became a bad race to improve it more and more, to make it more "legit" and in the end the guy just burnt out, let the Fanboys Online website die, never updating again after circa 2014, now reduced to draw those shitty simplistic doodles for Extra Credits.
>>146144456I simply don't care what people want. I draw for myself, and it's enough to keep me happy.
>>146144488That's nice anon (seriously) but I'm talking about why people don't seem to discuss webcomics anymore unless there's a pre-existing large fandom for it.
>>146141130Prehensile tail.
>>146143182Very nice!That's a good, fun-looking art-style.
>>146139216I feel my life would be a lot less miserable if I’d taken the time to write a full script before I started drawing. I'm trying to update 20 panels biweekly, and it's been really hard.If you plan on updating regularly, you must do some sort of script or thumbnails.>>146138021:( it was one of my favourites around here>>146134864>How long do you take inking a whole pageI don't do "pages", but inking depends on how much I can avoid drawing backgrounds. I'd say an average of 3 days every 20 panels. Here's a wip
>>146121810mines a capeshit comic called raccoon girl, i used to be a pretty frequent poster here ages ago, then i went on a 4yr on and off hiatus, but I survived it and I've been back posting weekly since last year and twice a week as of recently.>>146139216i have a main story outline and then i do as many page thumbs as possible for a chapter. I prefer thumbs because doing scripts i tend to write way too much dialogue for speech bubbles, so doing dialogue on the page helps me restrict myself. But its all down to preference and everyone always has a different opinion
>>146145630>I prefer thumbs because doing scripts i tend to write way too much dialogue for speech bubblesthis and it results either on bubbles of wordswordswords or a million panels to get the point across. it's a pain when it happens
>>146145659yeah i got critiqued a lot for being very wordswordswords so I took it onboard and changed up how I did it, i had one page that had 13 panels or something stupid, i still catch myself doing it occasionally but better its the occasional and not the norm
>>146132530i really love your style , draw her naked please .
>>146136555>>146138021The weird thing about Starry Ladders is that the author is still around, unlike many other webcomics that get fucked over by their creators having a stupid tantrum, deleting everything and then running away. But they haven't said anything about what the deal behind its disappearance is, very strange stuff. Maybe it fell through somehow and they rather brush it under the rug and aren't comfortable sharing details
>>146146138>The weird thing about Starry Ladders is that the author is still around, unlike many other webcomics that get fucked over by their creators having a stupid tantrum, deleting everything and then running awayEither people feel too awkward bringing it up, or they didn't notice. Sucks that two years of work is down the drain, but let it be warning to drawchads who think teaming up with a nodraw is a good idea- the artist always ends up carrying the project.
>>146145630Expressive, good body language, definitely top tier for HYW. That said, please use more contrasting colours, I can barely see what's on the page.
>>146135385>The best way for a webcomic to grow is through word of mouth but now even that's becoming insanely difficult. My theory is that organic word of mouth got infected by the follow for follow mentality, and now a bunch of people aren't comfortable with boosting another lesser known artist that is not guaranteed to return the favor. It is genuinly baffling how sleeper hits and hidden gems aren't these weekly happenings across the art web, and that the only things you will ever see are either someones mutual or trend riding.Someone somewhere has to have seen a truly great noname comic in the wild. The kind of thing that hits you in the face with how brilliant it is. But it feels like there's something clogging the pipe it's coming from.
>>146146875>My theory is that organic word of mouth got infected by the follow for follow mentalitySo fucking annoying. I got a spree of that on Tapas, where somebody would subscribe then DM me a form message along the lines of "hi! I really liked your comic, sub 4 sub?" Fuck off, you haven't even read thr comic. Hate how everything online has become transactional just like real life.
>>146146454>Sucks that two years of work is down the drain,Starry Ladders didn't run for that long did it?
>>146146875>truly great noname comic in the wildI wouldnt go so far as "truly great," but several anons that have posted in this thread clearly are trying quite hard to have decent stories and/or they've put a lot of time into making the art look pretty damn good for what amounts to an amateur drawing and posting on a Mongolian sheep herding forum, yet of you look their work up you'll see they jave hardly any readers and/or viewership on their socials. Shit sucks. I'm so fucking tired of normies only giving a picosecond to the most popular ones "because they're popular" which only makes them MORE popular, which then continues to compound the problem while everyone else is in the cold freezing to death.
<---here's the last page of the comic I just completed. Next I'm making a new story about the 2nd end of the world.>>146145961>>i really love your style , draw her naked please .I'm probably not drawing Riel naked. out of respect for the person she's sort of based on, Jpop singer Reol. Coincidentally, The Dark Reset characters I draw are basically naked. The two girls at the top of the page here. I got the idea from Sailor Moon. when they transform they appear in a naked form for a few seconds.
>>146146799thank you anon, ive not had anyone crit the colours so far but I'll take it onboard for future pages, I was just trying something different as its a sequence that all takes place in a characters mind. But would you say for example like this regular page the colours are well contrasted?
>>146147420I had to check, but you're right. Earliest posts were from May 2023- lasted just over a year.
>>146148082NTA but I'll have to listen to Reol now to feel what sort of mood she also inspired on your work.>>146148322NTA again but i feel light on dark might need to be even lighter, because lighting black colors it creates this weird visual illussion where we feel we reached the right spot, but when you look at the whole the highlights on black still look too dark. It's a hard balance.
>>146148798i appreciate any feedback so thank you, and i see what you mean, ive been trying stuff out recently to try and get better because i think lighting/shading is one of my weak areas
>>146148930Try do illustrations on grayscale to help your brain see values, that's what my art teacher made me do and I feel it worked.
>>146145402Looks kinda interesting and character action looks pretty nice. Is story sorta about magic dream manipulation and stuff like that?
>>146148970>>146148930An easy way to check if you're using photoshop or clip studio paint is to put a solid black layer on top of everything and set the blending mode to color. You can toggle it on and off to check as you go.
>>146148970>>146149908i use csp, but yeah this actually makes it super obvious that its clashing, thanks! i will use this
>>146150012You can grayscale on CSP also by going Layer > Correction Layer > Saturation
>>146148798>NTA but I'll have to listen to Reol nowReol is the queen of waifus. 2D waifus at least.
>how's you webcomic?I'm starting a new comic. Featuring this character
>>146133695got a warriors feeling
>>146133695Really cool work, anon.>>146150290She's a cute. Does she hang out with a tanuki?
How do you get over rhe anxiety of putting yourself and your work out there?
>>146151680Have low expectations. Most people don't care. Post and have fun!>>146148082I really enjoy your style. >>146145630Your approach is similar to mine. I have notes, an outline, and then I thumb out the dialogue and drawings. Thumbing also helps me control the amount of words in a page.
>>146151247>Does she hang out with a tanuki?that's not a bad idea really. I was thinking of making a cute animal character.>>146151764>I really enjoy your style.ty
>>146143957anon NO, that's pedophilia!
>>146136267I haven't read a webcomic in ages and barely read any comics these days. But you can read my friend's for me, it's at https://tangentville.thecomicseries.com/t. draws rabbits
>>146151981Ayy lmao
>>146134020As bad as 4chan has gotten, I think it's somewhat of an statement in itself seeing how it remains less cancerous than other websites.
i wish i could do something like the Lamezone comics but i'm too autistic to pull apart why they're cool, let alone imitate them successfully
>>146136130You don't draw webcomics to make it popular. You draw it because its fun. Its like playing an instrument. Its for your own enjoyment.
>>146143523I don't bother with story boards. When an idea pops into my head, I type it in my phone's text editor so I don't forget it. Every detail about the scene and not just the dialogue. Perspective, camera angle, location, expression, everything. Just type it. If something new pops up, add it until you get the chance to draw it.
>>146154100To study you redraw the pages, by redrawing you begin to understand the art of them.
>>146154135I draw my comic because I want people to make porn of my characters and general SFW fanart as well.
Character design bump.
>>146156067Cute, but something seems off.
>>146156067>>146156226I think it's that the torso is facing one way but the legs and pelvis are facing almost directly towards the viewer/camera.
>>146156248I think it's that. Not enough twist in the abdomen.I was trying to see if the arm length was off, but that warping the perspective is probably why that looked weird to me.
>>146156226>>146156248>>146156684You're correct, but also the pose is less important here. I just needed to quickly put something together to slap clothes and features on. Needs more iteration.
>>146156890Ooh you got something good there, anon.
>>146153499>As bad as 4chan has gotten,4chan was always somewhat ...funny. as long as I can remember
>>146157320The very early days had more genuine discussion, shitposting was contained to /b/.
>>146157320The internet was a different, better place pre-2008.
>>146124595I'm to busy to work on my webcomic :(
>>146153499>>146157320>>146157526Have to agree that 4chan, somehow, has turned into less of a cesspool than something like Twitter or Facebook. Keeping the worst stuff to /b/ or /pol/ still works for the most part- Reddit trying to stamp that sort of material out just caused it to spread elsewhere online, and Twitter seems to have no barriers at this point. At least here you can tell some to fuck off back to /pol/.
>>146158852Don't worry anon, I understand. Needing to pay the bills takes priority.
>>146158883In general it's very painful the internet became like this. Smartphones really ruined everything.
For those who make webcomics: What inspired you? What made you go through this decision?
>>146161396>What inspired you?manga, newspaper comics, and 4koma alike. >What made you go through this decision?Just wanted to have fun making characters, them interacting, and throwing in a few funnies. test my funny bone limits.atm i'm using my first webcomic like a prototype pilot. its super rough, but I like where it's going.
>>146161696It feels the fun factor gets lost to many, a lot pursue on being the "next big content creator".
>>146130149wait, so are they lesbians or not?
>>146161396>What inspired you?To make art in the first place? Constant exposure to it. What influences does the thing I'm making have? Philosophy, Eroguro, Foster's Home, and TADC. A hell of a mix of influences.>What made you go through this decision?I'm a writer. I like to suffer creatively *twice.*But I also live in hope that someone will draw fan art of my stuff some day. Then I'll be satisfied. For a day or two.
>>146124783Ready to go live first thing tomorrow. Episodes are spread an hour apart, over the course of the day.I'll post the link when it does.
>>146164394Oh nice anon, looking forward to it.
hey co i made a comic
>>146164637Ooooooooh, zombies?
>>146164637>>146164729yes
>>146164757
>>146164789
>>146164805
>>146164840will post more tomorrow
>>146164848
>>146164859Sorry for being pedantic, but enchilada only has one L
I’ve been doing a lot of concept art lately.
>>146161396The webcomic I wanted to read didn't exist. Then I didn't find someone to draw it for me. So it's a very long placeholder.
