Joker 2 is on digital today, let's discuss what's arguably the best part of the movie
https://files.catbox.moe/xih5pv.mp4
>>
>>146145940
It was well animated, I'll give you that.
>>
I personally loved folie a deux
>>
>>146145971
>I love shitty woke films that don't make money

Fixed.
>>
>>146146061
That's what I said.
>>
It feels like a cartoon from the late 1980s emulating a cartoon from the 1940s.
>>
>>146146101
That seems like the best way to describe it lol
>>
>>146145971
Get his fucking rags off
>>
>>146145940
I've seen indie cartoons with shoestring budgets have more fluid animation that this.
>>
>>146145971
same its a guilty pleasure of mine
>>
imagine if the movie was just this
>>
>>146146294
Technically, it is; this 3-minute animation summarizes what the movie's about

But yeah, a full-length traditionally animated Joker movie would be pretty cool
>>
Meanwhile, Quentin Tarantino loves the movie and calls it a "Fuck you" to comic book and Hollywood fans.

>this Joker sucks, he doesn't even do anything funn-
>>
>>146146988
HAHAHA bro just bitch-slapped that cop
>>
>>146145971
Why they needed to revisit the first movie so many times?
Why they DELIVERY bring back 3 minor characters from first movie?
>>
>>146145940
Would watch more shorts like it or a whole movie of that quality.
>>
>>146146745
In other words, he's complimenting Todd Phillips for wasting WB's money?
I guess you can give him credit for that
>>
>>146147030
for commentary
>>
>>146145971
I fail to see how that's possible. It's boring as fuck.
>>
>>146147033
>a whole movie of that quality
Well, you’re in luck because the director of that segment has a new movie for next year.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=hJehfW68ZmI
>>
>>146145940
A shame this part is overlooked amongst all the movie's bullshit
>>
250 million dollars and this is the best they can do?
>>
>>146146988
Do you have a HD webm of the rape scene?
>>
>>146147279
Wait, that was fucking Sylvain Chomet? Goddamn what a waste...
>>
>>146147030
>Why they DELIVERY
Why bad English?
>>
>>146147279
Something doesn't feel right having such a dialogue-heavy movie come from Chomet.
>>
>>146145971
"love" is a Strong word..
>>
>>146147030
Because the movie is about his trial. What else would they talk about in his trial besides what he did in the first movie?
>>
>>146145971
Same. I find it fascinating. The explosion scene is so fucking good.
>>
>>146145940
I saw this at the premiere in NYC. The theater was mostly quiet except for polite applause at the end, and laughter at the cancer signature.
>>
>>146148577
credits were edited to the end of OP's upload... figured you knew already
>>
>>146146061
>woke
The Joker gets raped in prison, Arthur is deceived by a lying woman, and they make ableist jokes about a midget, what's woke about that?
>>
>>146146101
Yeah pretty much a Ralph Bakshi cartoon
>>
>>146146745
I'm surprised he liked the musical scenes...it's just the same shit repeated over and over
>>
>>146148577
Yes.
>>
>>146149923
The only “joke” is that he’s sitting on a book, which is just accurate. They joke about his name in this one, they backtracked on midget jokes like in the first movie.
>>
>>146145940
I love how Shadow Joker looks but I don't like separating Arthur from Joker, it really ruins the how the movie plays out
>>
>>146150497
You think? I thought it was just supposed to present how sort of ludicrous the trials defense is supposed to be.
>>
>>146150157
Very likely not MGM Tex Avery, that's for sure

Me and My Shadow feels more at home with cartoons like Hollywood Steps Out

Pic related is the only frame that comes close to the zany stuff Avery ended up being known for
>>
>>146145971
That’s great, but there’s a reason you don’t spend big budgets on making movies only a very niche group actually enjoy
>>
>>146150807
They already spend plenty of big budgets targeting mass markets. It’s good to get an experiment sometimes in that regard.
>>
>>146145971
This is really good bait.
>>
>>146150173
Puddles also said he never felt smaller unintentionally
>>
>>146145940
PLAP PLAP PLAP PLAP
GET NORMAL
GET NORMAL
GET NORMAL
>>
>>146145971
I loved the idea of it. I wouldn't watch it again.
>>
>>146146101
Like a Filmation cartoon with a budget.
>>
>>146148430
... Well?
>>
>>146149923
This is just what the alt-right does - when stuff like Black Panther and Barbie make a billion dollars, they go "Oh yeah, this is totally for us and nobody else" when the opposite is clearly true, but if something like Joker 2: Jukebox Musical Boogaloo does badly then it's woke dei onions numale slop
>>
>>146146082
Based
>>
>>146145940
putona happy face
>>
>>146153116
We get it, you wanna jerk it to Arthur getting violated

I'm not about to satisfy your urges, bro
>>
Finally watched it myself.

It's literally just a court drama continuation of the first film interspersed with song & dance sequences throughout. Todd Phillips just trolled Warner Brothers into letting him do whatever it seems.
>>
>>146149787
I generally phase out credits unconsciously so it didn't register. Also it looked uncharacteristically stiff in comparison to his other stuff so it was hard to see his handiwork, they probably only gave him a fraction of the time and budget.
>>
>>146150867
Not really. Just means 10 other movies won’t exist that could have actually been experimental
>>
>>146146745
Tarantino also loved Disney's The Lone Ranger in 2014. I'm not so sure if he's the best judge of cinema.

>146146061
>woke

lol. lmao.
>>
>>146154088
It seems like he only directed the sequence. Under the credit for his "Picture Box" division, there's about 20 or so artists credited.
>>
Jackie... Aren't you gonna take me out to dinner first?
>>

Wait. This was Chomet's work?

Why does it feel cheap?
>>
>>146145971
Then why didn't you go see it?
>>
>>146150649
My issue is the first movie already had this idea of "who he is vs the idea the disenfranchised masses have projected on him".
It just felt like it wasn't an aspect that needed to be explored further.
>>
>>146145971
NOOOOO YOU MUST NOT LIKE WHAT WE DON'T LIKE
>>
>>146155664
he looks SO DUMB
I love it
>>
stupid movie but lady gaga was cute
>>
>>146155740
The whole thing feels like a Cliffsnotes recap of the first movie in the form of a court drama, with a new ending so you understand that the bad man got what was coming to him.
>>
>>146145971
Thoughts on the rape?
>>
>>146155682
trying to emulate the cheapness of cetain eras, not saying shit looked like that but some did and he's trying to go for that aesthetic.
>>
I didn't like Joker 1. I thought it was a bland, completely derivative pseudointellectual wank by Todd Philips carried entirely by Joaquin's performance. It brought nothing new or interesting to the table.

Joker 2 has no appear to me either. I don't need a movie to tell me for two hours "Uh, you were actually WRONG to like the first movie!" and then try to have it's cake and eat it too at the end by saying there's another "real" joker out there all along. It's so thematically hollow. It cannibalizes itself. There's no reason for this movie to cost $200 million dollars when it doesn't succeed at any level of being a movie, a musical, a comic book adaptation, a satire. It fails miserably at all of these.

You can have great works that are introspective. Look at the entire second half of Don Quixote, where Don Quixote literally finds the real-life fanfiction that was written about him and complains about how bad it is. And even then, it still manages to be incredibly funny, thoughtful, and even tearjerking at the end.
>>
>What the world needs now... is cum! Sweet cum! Up my fucking ass!
>>
>>146159304
get his fuckin rags off
>>
>>146159317
JACKIE

NO... !
>>
>>146146745
It would have been cool for him to do to punish WB and annoying fans but he only did it to shit on the conservatives because of all the "literally me" memes
Thats why he was raped too
>>
>>146145940
Gay rape is funny lmao
>>
>>146151677
todd said it was the death of ricky that makes him change
>>
>>146145940
Why is digital animation so ugly?
>>
>>146162581
This isn't that bad

There's a nice attention to detail to get that cel-animated look, the shadows and cloud effects have "paint strokes" if you look closely
>>
>>146145940
I liked how the blood spattered outside of the aspect ratio
>>
>>146162360
n-no it isnt baka! >:c
>>
>>146162650
I can appreciate they tried but it still looks disgusting.
>>
>>146146988
HOW CAN HE SLAP?
>>
>>146162652
In the movie proper, it transitions into the live action as the curtain pulls back

This upload, on the other hand, reveals "That's all, Folks" card because I guess OP wanted to contain the animated sequence all on its own

Props to them for creating a card rather than using a screencap of an actual Merrie Melodies sign-off
>>
>>146149408
World premiers aren't film festivals, people should shut the fuck up unless it's the end applause or they laugh at jokes

Oh fuck even Sylvain Chomet went down the CalArts rabbit hole.
Is that where 2D animation has come down to?
>>
Why does that walk in the beginning look as if it was traced from the old Looney Tunes short?

It's an homage. If any part of the short looks like a reference to something, it probably is.
