Got to see Moana 2 early. Not explaining the circumstances but AMA.TL;DR it's a complete disaster that bears all the scars of its fucked creative process and being a former TV show. The villains suck, the songs suck and feel even more AI generated than Wish, the dialogue is atrocious and the ending is the most unsatisfying of any recent WDAS movie.So of course it's going to make a shitzillion dollars.

>>146307736If you look closely at the trailer you can tell the cutbacks, despite them trying to hide it with action shots and fast cuts.Those clothes aren't animated anywhere near as well (which is why most of the new clothes designs don't have free hanging elements other than tassles ). The animation is a lot more "snap to pose" rather than the original where it's much more free flowing. Materials are a lot flatter with the background containers looking more like something textured than something weaved and the boat planks lacking the various stains and varying levels of moisture.I did make a good image comparing it but I lost it. This one shows the difference though, even though the Moana 2 boat is a newer boat (which seems to be anachronistically treated wood because that's easier) you can still see that Moana 1 puts a lot more effort into adding stains, making things less uniform, adding moisture patches (M2's boat is extremely dry for something on the ocean).

Maui gets a song centred around his 'chee hoo' catchphrase and it is appalling, like 'This is the Thanks I Get' level of shittiness. The villain witch sings a song called 'Get Lost' that has such ADD visuals it made me shut my eyes.

TV cartoons are often really good at slapstick because of this and it doesn't look too bad. Maybe it's worse in the movie. It's very obvious the textures are off though, especially when the pig is wet.
