I'd be amazed if the marketing isn't more than the production budget.It probably needs to make $800m+ to break even but it's got 2 films to do that and the press are going to be really reluctant to stick their head above the parapet and give it a bad review. It's the constant trend of "bumbling oaf male and cool girl" that gets old. For as much as I love Wall-E, even his dynamic with Eve was basically just a meek guy (kinda feminine in how he watches old romance musicals and just thinks about love) and an action girl who blows shit up. You just don't have to suffer with it much because they barley talk, and since the perspective stays on Wall-E most of the time you're allowed to feel for his perspective the most, even in times where it seems like he's getting in Eve's way or she doesn't get why he acts how he does and seems annoyed or callous towards him.Wreck It Ralph 2 was essentially my real cutoff point for Disney. Not only does it keep that bumbling oaf thing going with Ralph and Vanellope, they even insulted their entire legacy and original fans of Princess movies by outwardly expressing every single one of those movies was wrong and sexist, and have them save Ralph. And of course it's fine if Vanellope goes turbo because badass girl stuff. It was all the most annoying shit they could possibly do bundled together and then some. I haven't had an interest in any Disney movie since before then anyway, but that was a good closing point.
