Not really, the talking animals bit is the core concept of the work. Even if it's stupid you have to accept it just as the buy in or else you wouldn't entertain the work at all. But there's nothing else altered about the rules of the setting which would allow this moment to transpire. Everything is about the animals operating strangely, nothing is stated to have changed about the humans which means this isn't part of suspending disbelief to allow the basic story beats to function but merely mediocre writing in the name of a moment that doesn't do anything for almost anyone

I'm torn on whether or not giving the animals human morals and ethics alongside the sentience is a good route to take.
If you just make them sentient, but keep their animalistic views of the world, they'd likely just come off as cartoon characters.
Like the rabbits from Watership Down or Warrior Cats.
Putting those human concerns on creatures that sometimes physiologically can not survive while following them and then forcing them to confront that is part of what makes this comic's concept interesting.
That's not to say it couldn't be done though.
Take the animals from Watership or Warriors, and make it so they can suddenly communicate with humans without changing anything about how they view the world.
It's a simple difference that changes a ton.

Honestly the part I tapped out is when the Koala Bear and the tortoises turned traitor on that wolf character because they couldn't stand eating tofu. Freaking Koalas of all animals have a food source that literally no other animal can survive off of and tortoises can eat literally anything, neither of those animal types should ever worry about starving and I just could not go on reading this at that point. Literally any other animals would have worked better in those spots, but they had to pick the ones that made the absolute least sense about being mad over eating tofu. That's not just bad storytelling, that's just being flat out lazy.
