>One day, the Animals woke up. They started thinking. They started talking. They started taking revenge. Now, a dog and his girl are trying to get away—out of New York City, and all the way to San Francisco, to the only person who might be able to protect and save her.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-CkjaghqEgUnless I've badly miscounted for something I believe that i'll be finishing up this storytime over three threads, with this thread wrapping up the main comic before pivoting off to do the sidequel runs on Animosity:Rise and Animosity:Evolution for the majority of the third thread and then probably end it off with using the extra image cap space to the one issue 'world of animosity' lore book at the end. We should have some margins to spare image cap-wise so don't be to precious about not filing the threads with non-page images along the way.Whether you're continuing from the last thread or jumping in starting with this one I do cross my fingers promise in saying that if nothing else Evolution will be a fun ride. Also all Storytime posters like me are nothing if not attention craving neets. I adore hearing whatever idle chattery goes down and maybe i'll maybe chat right back. That's enough idle chatter out of me. Thread 1: Issues 1-14/Where we left off.https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/146334062/

Even if it's stupid you have to accept it just as the buy in or else you wouldn't entertain the work at all. But there's nothing else altered about the rules of the setting which would allow this moment to transpire. Everything is about the animals operating strangely, nothing is stated to have changed about the humans which means this isn't part of suspending disbelief to allow the basic story beats to function but merely mediocre writing in the name of a moment that doesn't do anything for almost anyone

>>146425340I was starting to believe he was going to live, because it was so insane to put that many pages into the backstory of a character on his deathbed. You don't flesh a character out 'after' they get shot. And then all he did was reveal a situation with Sandor that doesn't make a single bit of sense as-is, so it's borderline meaningless. It's just so far detached from how he's been acting up until now that it doesn't make sense to condemn the character on that testimony alone, so the fuck is the reader supposed to do with that?
>>146434186This has to be the worst issue of the series.
>>146433867>you can accept wizards and dragons but not a 2018 Nissan Altima with heated seats?>>146434124yep just lazy writing with the expectation that idiots would forgive it because "dude its just a story use suspension of disbelief" as though its a catch-all for every problem in a story
>>146434299Seconding this.At least OP had the decency to warn us when it started.
My god they turned up the agenda preaching to 11 in this part of the comics.Story is all over the place, but I have a feeling its a matted mess because the author had to masturbate to main character she wrote like every 5 minutes. To be brutally honest this comic lost me in the last thread the moment they had the polar bear cry "What have I done!?!?" having bitten in the sea lion. I mean, he's a polar bear, who eats meat... his entire life... Just gaining the sentience and he's all "I gotta go vegan!"
>>146434186Christ the entire issue was just >wordswordswordswordswordswordswordsin the worst way
>>146433703Sympathy for the devil can be good, ironically he's not even devilish enough for that, too boring to sell it. And "people are nicer to cute animals than humans they don't know" is such a trite point to labour.
>>146434332>you can accept wizards and dragons but not a 2018 Nissan Altima with heated seats? While you're right this "cliche" has always been the laziest stupidest way to argue the point
The message this is trying to preach is so goddamned scitzo. The thought of people who think this way attaining any sort of power in real life is concerning.
>words words wordsGod these last eight or so pages were a fucking slog.I'm (sort of) fine with waxing philosophical but holy shit please get someone who knows how to do page layouts. These pages are a mess. Panels and speech bubbles are all over the place with almost none of them connected logically and their intended speakers usually the last thing you see, at which point you have to go back and reread it but this time connected to a face and a name that we all know are going to be irrelevant in another chapter or two.Pretty funny that they sorta lampshaded that several chapters ago, I don't give a shit about any named characters being introduced this late in the story.
>>146434572maybe so but it worksits not just that some people sacrifice the integrity of the story to make a quick buck or force in shit that obviously doesn't belong but that some people defend it on the most absurd, flimsiest ground possible just because "its fantastical"
>>146434532The thing that gets me is that there is so much wild shit they could write but refuse to>Humans and other apes band together as ape supremacists>Queen Bee/Ant trying to become god empress of Bee/Ant kind>Wolf pack reenacting "The Most Dangerous Game">Inter animal specism, it's really dumb how all the animals seem to just band together against the humans but not each otherBut in the end the author is only capable of writing stories where the obvious villain is the villain
>>146434532>I mean, he's a polar bear, who eats meat... his entire life... Just gaining the sentience and he's all "I gotta go vegan!"I'm torn on whether or not giving the animals human morals and ethics alongside the sentience is a good route to take.If you just make them sentient, but keep their animalistic views of the world, they'd likely just come off as cartoon characters.Like the rabbits from Watership Down or Warrior Cats.Putting those human concerns on creatures that sometimes physiologically can not survive while following them and then forcing them to confront that is part of what makes this comic's concept interesting. That's not to say it couldn't be done though.Take the animals from Watership or Warriors, and make it so they can suddenly communicate with humans without changing anything about how they view the world. It's a simple difference that changes a ton.
>>146434638>force in shit that obviously doesn't belong but that some people defend it on the most absurd, flimsiest ground possible just because "its fantastical"That argument was always an absurd exaggeration to support complaining about black people in medieval fantasy fiction, If the writer can make a good enough explanation then I don't see why not it's called World Building
>>146433987Don't domesticated pigs revert to wildhood almost immediately?
>>146434041>Just learn to code!
>>146434806Yes but they're still not wild hogs, they're feral pigs. Pigs are just extra good at making do because they're pretty damn smart
>>146434713>If the writer can make a good enough explanationthey never can and rarely even make the attempt
>>146434646>Domesticated factory farm animals begrudgingly returning to the pens whether as servants to humans or otherwise after it sinks in that they cannot survive on their own.>Small territorial cliques of x minor animal forming mutually enforced species enclaves where similar niche following creatures cannot be permitted to live.>Everyone at a deskjob when civilization trundles back along into a normal state takes a big poo-poo in their pants as small rodents make better menial service economy workers then people do. 100 rats & hamsters and mice can run an AR(animal resources) department or every household's taxes with negligable housing/feedings costs compared to anyone else. >Short lived creatures are left to seethe at their inability to live long enough to learn and accomplish anything. >>146435207You, sir, are my negro
>>146434646>>Humans and other apes band together as ape supremacistsHonestly that would be fucking awesome. Like humans would fall down in the pecking order but I imagine that ape together strong would still work out in our favor. Besides some ape behavior is completely fucked and people constantly walking on eggshells around some of these insane fuckers that could be your friend one minute then ripping your face off the next would be one hell of a story beat.
>>146434713>If the writer can make a good enough explanationIf only they had tried in this case.

this series desperately needs fan contentThere is so much more that can be built on from the premiseSo many interesting ideas that are never fully explored
>>146433867This is what is called "The One Big Lie" concept. The idea is that in a speculative fiction work, it is good writing to have one solid break from reality that the concept is rooted in (what if irl medieval times had dragons, what if there was a secret magic school in the 90s, what if there was a man who could fly) but that everything else from the setting must make logical sense as a reaction to that big lie.
>>146433703When are we going to do the spinoff focusing on her vet brother?
>>146433790Why did they destroy the city instead of just overthrowing the regime. That was a perfectly good city.
>>146448541No humans to be the bad guy in that situation
>>146448955Never knew there was a term for it but makes sense. Its easier to accept a singular large fiction than many, many smaller exceptions to reality; the latter means an emotional disconnect as much as a logical one. Why far out there settings like star trek have to really get down into humanistic plots and drama,
>>146448970The main group makes sense, they weren't staying. The rest of the animals?Fuck if I know. Was gonna suggest they wouldn't get much use out of so much stuff built for humans, but the animilitary seemed to be making use of the place they took over just fine.
>>146434532>>146434707The adding human morals in addition to consciousness is one of the things that made this story feel unique. However, it still is a very shit story. Honestly the part I tapped out is when the Koala Bear and the tortoises turned traitor on that wolf character because they couldn't stand eating tofu. Freaking Koalas of all animals have a food source that literally no other animal can survive off of and tortoises can eat literally anything, neither of those animal types should ever worry about starving and I just could not go on reading this at that point. Literally any other animals would have worked better in those spots, but they had to pick the ones that made the absolute least sense about being mad over eating tofu. That's not just bad storytelling, that's just being flat out lazy.
