It starts with her eating them so the cartoon has some time to breathe and make this ridiculous slow motion sequence. I also feel like that shot with the ant falling while on the cookie would have been skipped, but those cuts are needed for the audience to start gaining some sympathy for the ants. You really can't take pacing for granted, to make a seven minute short feel longer and like a full story because of those storytelling decisions.
