>>146711035NTA, but I looked it up. That's a cape comic, homie. It takes place in a cape setting, it has capes on every page, it has capes on the cover, it's made by a cape author, it looks and reads like a cape comic. Even if you can somehow finagle it as not-cape on some technicality (which you can't), it's assuredly not what someone who doesn't want to read capes is looking for.

>>146711181>>146711428One can argue them being sci-fi/fantasy with gods.>>146711772It's a subgenre that can be applied to many things making it a vague genre. The Shadow/Tarzan appeared before "official" superheroes but they're still basically superheroes. Had Kirby done his stories featuring gods battling each other outside of the big two under a publisher known for fantasy stories would they still be called capeshit? Street vigilante stuff like the Punisher gets lumped with superhero/supervillain/capeshit/vigilante stuff but it's not really that different from something like Dirty Harry/Deathwish that aren't labelled the same way.But it's not hard to name non-superhero comics.

Man all this arguing about what is capeshit and what is not really makes me wish for a thread discussing to what extent something should be for it to be defined as capeshit. Does this mean a bunch of cool shonen battle manga is basically capeshit because they all wear flashy costumes, have simplistic-ish morals a lot of the time, and often have some sort of symbol on their outfit? Also having a bunch of cool powers, the only thing really missing are cool codenames, but even then they have that.

>>146740956Americans have always treated the title "graphic novel" as something that must be above mere "comics" in some way, usually by being snooty, having a "message", or both. And this guy in particular loves recommending American message-fic, and his lists are useless if you're not into that. That's assuming he reads these things at all, instead of just copying lists from mainstream sites. Because look, he's got Lore Olympus on there, and that's Webtoons romance trash widely considered trash even by the people who like that sort of trash. And I've read (some of) Monstress, and can confirm it's trash as well. Lol, and only one BD, too. Also, that 2022 list has 90 fucking comics on it, all just dumped on there with no indication of content, or why the recommender likes them in the first place. At that point you're better off just going through the new releases at a comic store. In short, these lists are shit.
>>146735752Religious people hate its clear anti-religious message, modern leftists hate its nudity and sexuality. It's very much a comic of its time. Personally, I enjoyed it. The art alone is pretty great, and the entire thing has a surreal taste to it. It very much mimics a religious/mythological tale, so it's all very broad strokes storytelling. The main character isn't sympathetic, which I suspect throws off a lot of modern readers. Because that's what I've seen them complain about.
>>146734917Not is not, is like saucer country. If you think exmachina is a superhero comic, then you need to improve your reading skills.
>>146742723NTA, but that's clearly a cape comic. It's about a costumed hero with superpowers. That's as cape as cape gets.>b...b...but it has a slightly different story than other cape comics!Doesn't fucking matter. You're one to go on about reading comprehension when you can't even understand OP's post. Jesus fucking Christ, what is it with you capes fans trying to force capes into this thread? You have threads upon threads to talk about your capeshit. Why come to the ONE thread that says "no capeshit" to push capeshit?

>>146742723It is very obviously a superhero comic.
>>146738345You seem to think that your opinion counts as fact. In this, you are mistaken. As you are also mistaken in a bunch of opinions expressed in this post.
>>146739926Palomar is (IMHO) better then the Locas. Very different though - Beto writes magical-realism compared to Jaime's much more grounded stories.
>>146710321You must be joking. This is one of the dumbest, most philistine boards on the site, and your post supports that.
>>146741679The guy just loves making charts to fuel discussion, but putting a bunch of shit on there kinda defeats the point.
>>146741679I do get annoyed by the "graphic novel" title. In my head, a graphic novel is something that was written to be what it is, it isn't a collection of previous issues.
>>146743694I'll check it out, thanks.
>>146743694Both storylines dip into magical realism, but Palomar runs more parallel to the works of Garcia Marquez. I prefer Jaime.
>>146744420I think a lot of those fall under that.
>>146743694Based fellow Palomar-preferer.
>>146701976No
>>146741042Still doesn't answer my question.
>>146702360Cool cover
>>146749617It is.
>>146747499Your tastes are not an objective measure of comics' quality.
>>146705640Odd
>>146710321I love From Hell and Asterios, so because of your post I ended up trying out Blast. And it's great! Unique art, story, writing. It's always idiots who deride others without contributing anything themselves. Get fucked moron! :)
>>146752395Based.
>>146751853What's odd about it?
Nobody likes The Filth anymore?
>>146709011Breddy gud, even if some of the later books were a wee bit on the just as keikaku side, but fuck me if Talbot doesn't draw some delectable badger ladies.
>>146718264Please don't. Someone could actually think your troll charts were meant to be serious.
>>146718848>not using morrigun as an eye catcherRookie mistake.
>>146740914JESUS, everything is pretencious bad art tier.
>>146740914This is just a useless list. It's just a wall of covers- virtually none of which tell me shit about the comic.>>146744420If you don't think Corben's Neverwhere is a graphic novel I'm not sure what to tell you. something can be published in parts and still tell one story. Dumas, Dickens and a lot of other authors serialized their novels in newspapers- do we need a new name for those too?>inb4 but that's different followed by a lot of weasel words.
>>146755333It's a superhero comic.
>>146740914Why is the Graphic Novel genre such a fucking terrible lost cause space? I rarely see one that doesn't look annoying by the art style or subject matter. It's like if Tumblr had their own specific brand of books.
>>146757236Because it's not a genre. It's a taste. The concept barely exists outside of America, and only then because it was imported from America. This was a long ass time ago, but I remember going to a bookstore I used to visit occasionally, and normally the only comic-related stuff they carried was a small alcove of cartoons. As in, mostly newspaper cartoons, right next to the newspapers and magazines. We had a good newspaper cartoonist my father likes, and I once got a big collected volume of his stuff there for my father's birthday. But there was a new addition to the store that time: A little table right in the view of people entering the store advertising this "new" thing. Graphic novels. You know, fucking comics. There's a comics store in the same street. And another one another street over. But the thing that really got me was that they included a little folder that explained how to read comics, like it's this alien thing. The sort of stuff you would expect not just for people unfamiliar with comics, but human society in general.Americans fight over what is and isn't a Graphic Novel, but when you get down to it a big part of the term comes down to just being a comic for people who feel too good for comics. I guess it's just good luck that some of them are, in fact, quite readable.
>>146739926I read the books out of order. At first I prefered the Locas stories. But then I read Poison River and went "ooooooooooOOOOH!" and went back to fill in all the gaps in the Palomar stories. Poison River is the best American comic I've read.
>>146757993>he term comes down to just being a comic for people who feel too good for comics. That's part of it. The other part is that a graphic novel is written and drawn as a whole, rather then a bunch of monthly episodes that happen to be reprinted together.
>>146756356You sound kind of cunty. I was just saying that "graphic novel" doesn't connote any particular quality or intelligence or anything of that nature, which is what some people seem to think.
>>146758089Perhaps, but that is also an American concept. European albums don't really function according to either principle, and as far as I'm aware the Japanese also do not consider this to be much of a distinction despite having a lively magazine-publishing industry.
>>146703159Nice
>>146758569Agreed. But remember that most bédé are published a few pages a week in magazines like Tchou, Witch and Spirou then collected in yearly albums.
>>146719039Does Mad Max have Superman in it?
>>146718784>>146718960My favorite part of these non-cape books is when Batman and the Justice League show up :D
