an underrated aspect of atla (compared to korra) is the power scaling/ceiling, although i know people have touched on this. i like that in atla there are mysterious masters throughout the world who are the strongest benders but we only see glimpses of them here and there. korra lacked that. korra was supposed to be the strongest bender as someone who supposedly "mastered" 3 elements but she routinely got her ass kicked. and there were random "skilled benders" who could go toe to toe with her and others. there was no epicness or mystique to the top benders in korra - they all had the modern mma fighting style and they just traded air punches or whatever.basically, i think the 3rd avatar series focusing on a kid who hasn't mastered bending is good again, because when she struggles against other benders in the show it won't feel like the power scaling is wonky or being trivialized. though we can only hope the choreography will be more epic like it was in atla.

Rewatched TLA last month, I think it tied a lot of loose ends for the most part and sort of left some wiggle room for a small continuation, maybe focusing on Aang being the Avatar, Zuko finding his mom and maybe, MAYBE seeing what happened to Azula (No redemption bullshit). I think Korra could've been saved if it had more episodes to space stuff out with especially the last two seasons. The later seasons are so horribly paced that stuff just kinda happens when the plot needs it to and almost every episode resolves itself so abruptly. I don't really understand how Nickelodeon didn't give them more episodes considering how big atla was, then they just started killing it by giving it horrible time slots and no ads on tv for when new eps were coming out.

Besides, I think it would be highly OOC for Zuko to demand that his lover(s) commit acts against their nature for his sake, or be ok with them doing so thinking it would make him happy. I could see Ozai or pre-redemption Iroh engaging in such behavior with their romantic/sexual partners, but not Zuko. It's why I think the only relationship the four of them enter is a true fourway relationship.
