>On Asgard, Thor had been outplayed by the Enchantress - and their game would have vast consequences for the Golden Realm. And on Earth, the self-styled Gods of Midgard made their bid to take the kingdoms of humankind for their own.

I know this is just Ewing teasing another writer using the character but I'm not sure I can remember the last Mr Hyde was even used before this book
maybe that Ralth Machichio Morbiues one-shot for when the film came out

Ewing will rather die than write a white man having sex with two beautiful women

So how is this run compared to Immortal Hulk? I liked Ewing's writing there, is this one along the same lines?

It really struggles from Coccolo's departure, but otherwise it's alright

Thor is saying that he didn't decide Magni is worthy, and since he is the All Father, that means he's setting the rules

So Magni is lifting the Hammer and throwing it around with pure strength

THIS IS NOT THE STORY OF THE IMMORTAL THOR! The All-Father had a journey to make to a far star — and so, for a time, the Golden Realm was left to rule itself. Yet even in the absence of the King, the story continued — and each Asgardian had their own drama to play out. These are the TALES OF ASGARD... A cavalcade of artists including Jan Bazaldua, Valerio Schiti, Juann Cabal, Martin Coccolo, CAFU, Steve Skroce, Gavin Guidry and many more!

THE RETURN OF THE UTGARD-THOR! Toranos, Elder God of the storm, had returned — and his terrible lightning now struck at the Odinson's very heart. His presence in the skies meant the gate to Utgard was once more open. But this time, it would not be closed... not until Thor walked through it. This is the story of the IMMORTAL THOR... as he began the last adventure.

Immortal Hulk: strong in the first half, weaker but still good in the second, decent art all the way through

Immortal Thor: art is great for the first 8 issues then turns to raw dogshit, the story is good when its focused on the Elder Gods plot but the Roxxon shit drags hard, we've seen Aaron tackle Roxxon extensively and Ewing also used them in Immortal Hulk

I do prefer it when Radioactive Man is actually trying to be a hero, especially as a Chinese hero working for China so that he can still come into conflict with American heroes if need be, but since it's clear that Marvel insists on keeping him a villain this is at least an interesting depiction.

Hark ! This doth be mine final post upon /co/.

How canst anyone thinketh that this doth be awe-some for true ? How canst anyone taketh seriously a comical manuscript with Thor as a supposedeth to be superhero ? How canst anyone seeth the Thor as heroic for true in this book ?
"Ouh, Thor doth be smiling, so awe-some, this be so cooleth guys..." why dost thou lie to thyself in such a manner ?
Thou guys art simply forcing onto thyself the new fadeth there shalt be within this hivemind of a board, with the blandesteth, tamesteth, most classicly safe comical manuscript there canst be, while thine selective outrage doth be shitting upon Cates' Hulk for things that would be praised if they were scribed by another's quill, but NAAAAAAAAAAAAY thou hast to shitteth uponst it even if it be good because the hivemind doth dictate thou to do thusly !!!

Tis no wonder thou canst get laideth, but guesseth what ? Lo, I obtainst a shieldmaiden now. For the first time of mine life after one score and four years I finally obtainst a shieldmaiden, and all that monkish fuss hath become quite irritating since.
I am simply departing for goodeth anon, I hadst plenty of fun with that board but I doth proclaim I be done. I pray thou to get shieldmaidens to, maybe it will openeth thine eyes about the hivemind that is destructing thy self, alas, the hivemind is mayhaps keeping thou awayest from being able to seduceth anyone, so thou art most like entrapped within one vicious circle, and sadly, there beith no WildC.A.T.s to savest thou from't. I simply hopeth that mine epistle shalt maybe aid thou to think by thyself a mite more and to obtainst a shieldmaiden to.

Enjoyeth thine manuscript.

>I think Thor left it up to chance to see if Magni is worthy
It's the magical rules lawyering that Ewing loves so much. Word play to solve logic puzzles

If you aren't worthy of Mjolnir it becomes heavy enough that you can't lift it
But Magni is God of Strength, so he always becomes strong enough as he needs to be

It's the "Can God make a rock so heavy that even he can't lift it" paradox
That's why Magni is saying that Mjolnir feels heavier than usual
>>
>>146813154
aye I love when Marvel writers actually respect and want to earnestly use these villains plus give them great moments to let their personality shine.
>>
>>146812494
It's almost as if Aaron's a shitty writer
>>
>>146812903
>good when its focused on the Elder Gods plot but the Roxxon shit drags hard,
Anon, it's completely the other way around. Nobody gives a fuck about Toranos or whoever, while they all love Aggerâ„¢ and the corporate villainy shenanigans. The mystical stuff is the boring part of this Thor run, for once.
>>
>>146809294
Significantly weaker while also being the best Thor series in a looooooooooooong while, low bar to cross though
>>
>>146813201
yeah, you'd think the turning characters into mouthpieces or flagrant character mishandling and Mephisto being shoved down throats would make him not have so much work
>>
>>146813219
Honestly I agree, I'm all for Agger and his hit squad of Thor's earth villans but mostly breeze the Utgard stuff. It reminds me of when Ironman Armored Adventures would have his rogues gallery often flock and interact with Justin Hammer or Obidiah Stane which was a lot of fun in the show.
>>
>>146813219
>>146813292
I'm interested in the trials that Skald Loki has been putting Thor through

Because he keeps getting cool new gear
And there's just one of trial to go

It goes:
Agger > Skald Trials > Untgard
>>
>>146808478
>>146808491
So Radioactive Man gave up the idea of fighting the second he saw Thor brought a squad with him? He really is a professional.
>>
>>146808497
Aw, I hoped she'd fight Iron Man
>>
>>146813460
That reminds me, what was Loki like in Magni's timeline? Was he that Thor's scheming vizier to show Thor's corruption, or was he dead to show Thor's ruthlessness?
>>
>>146812964
I think it's a fun way to reconcile his various depictions

Sometimes he's honorable and trying to be a hero, patriotic and serving China as part of the People's Defense Force.
Other times he gets used as a generic supervillain who does dumb shit because writers need recognizable mooks

Explaining the latter away by being a kind of role he plays as a kind of government game of spies and assets, so that he can go back to doing the former. It's pretty elegant
It even explains the Collective Man having to do some similar shit
>>
>>146808507
What were they even arrested for? They were just standing on a rooftop until wanted criminal Thor beat them up with the posse he gathered.

I guess logically they're all either fugitives from being broken out of prison or in violation of their parole, but other writers have treated villains going straight so casually I figured that capes get to operate on GTA rules.
>>
>>146812423
Only time Radioactive Man has been written beyond being a one dimensional villain was during the post Avengers Disassembled through Secret Invasion Thunderbolts run. There it was established that Radioactive Man's power makes him bipolar and thuggish and he had a great deal of guilt over his powers killing innocent people, hence him joining the Thunderbolts having regained as at the tine, he had regained his sanity. He had a cute running friendship with Songbird and was her only ally during the dark days of the Ellisbolts, until Osborn fired him from the team post Secret Invasion, sending him back to China.
>>
>>146812423
I think he was most like this after Thunderbolts: Faith in Monsters by Warren Ellis.
>>
>>146808402
>>146808407
The narrator talking about Magni's tale having ended makes me pretty sure he's not going to last past this run. Ewing might be making a point about leaving bad futures and what ifs out of mainstream continuity, but I can't recall if it would be hypocritical if him to do so.
>>
>>146815273
It depends, he's had characters that come from the future that travel back to the present day, like Golden Skull, the tiding-fly from the ninth cosmos and Zayn Asghar
Although they're all created by him, I can't think of any pre-existing characters that he used like Magni
>>
>>146815395
He used Dani Cage Captain America but usually sent her back to her own time and Avengers of 20XX

There's a lot of time travel and branching timelines nonsense in his Venom, what with there being like 5 or 6 different future Eddies

He has Galactus's mom Taaia stuck living in present day with Blue Marvel. But she's not from an alternate future but a way distant past and previous multiverse
>>
>>146815273
I think Ewing is commentating on the idea of continuing a character's story when the character has already reached as close to a definite ending as you possibly can

It's why the previous issue opened up with an homage of JMS first issue of Thor
In that issue Thor had already reached a rather definite ending with Ragnarok happening and everyone in the realms dying except Midgard but of course this being comics he has to return
>>
>>146814458
>It even explains the Collective Man having to do some similar shit
My personal headcanon for why he was so out of character in that X-Men run where he was attempting to become a crime boss was due to some off-panel shenanigans his team had to clean up
Basically an extension for why he's so fucking pissed at American heroes next time he showed up for people thinking New York is the center of the world and not recognizing something was up

So he'd been morally inverted or brainwashed into being evil, and after recovering he's still bitter that the Americans just thought he was bad without questioning it? Yeah that's worth a no prize in my book
>>
>>146813158
Never really liked that paradox. Of course God could do so, but he could also then make himself able to lift it. It is, however, weird that you just go
>Yeah he's the God of Strength so, he'll just match whatever strength he needs to do something
This is setting up for him to fight Hulk again, isn't it? Or Juggernaut or something retarded where he shouldn't be able to stop it but he can because GOD OF STRENGTH LOL.

>>146817917
Which is why Strange thinking he can swoop in and become Sorcerer Supreme is so offensive. If that even was a title, Loki or Amora would have it. Or maybe Odin but his overwhelming power didn't seem to translate to spells usually.
>>
>>146817724
I looked it up and you weren't kidding. It seems like most of the bad stuff there was all Loki's fault and Thor's biggest failing was trusting him.

...That feels kind of lame, is it actually not bad if you read it?

>>
>>146819707
arcs were overall too long for the stories they were telling, Cates always had an issue in regards to pacing, and the villains were pretty forgettable as well
Cates destroying Broxton for drama I guess but it was pointless and forgotten in the issue he did it in, so much JMS thought he had to spend the last three issues of his Captain America run fixing it,
Art was overall much better but Ewing seem cursed in that regard
but Cates could have been a lot worse
>>
>>146810052
