When it comes to these two and Hey Arnold! (the three Nicktoons that got revival movies/specials), how would you rank them in terms of how successful they were when they were on back in the day? And how would you rank them from largest to smallest online community?
>>
Enter the Florpus was nothing like the show
>>
>>146893523
Enter the Florpus was a neutered version of Invader Zim. Gaz got it the worst.
>>
>>146893471
I'm not talking about the revival specials (Jungle Movie performed poorly, which led Rocko and ZIM to be sent to Netflix), i'm talking about the ORIGINAL series for Hey Arnold! (premiered in 1996, mostly ended production in 2000, but three episodes were greenlit and produced in 2001 and Nick USA finished it in 2004), Rocko (1993 to 1996), and Invader ZIM (2001 - 2002, with six episodes not legally available to american audiences until 2004 on DVD)
>>
>>146893471
invader zim was and still is wayyy more successful
>>
>>146893471
In terms of success among the target demo of 6-11 during their runs in the 90s (Rocko) or 90s/2000s (Arnold) or 2000s (ZIM)

Hey Arnold > Rocko > ZIM

In terms of fanbase

ZIM > Arnold > Rocko

That's my guess

Florpus is a case of being a decent movie, but a bad ZIM movie. Mostly because it uses Dib as the protagonist when it should be the exact opposite.
>>
>>146893523
Eh, I liked it. It wasn't as edgy as his older stuff but his newer style felt appropriate. I couldn't stand how preachy Rocko got with the tranny stuff, what the fuck were they thinking?

My guess is that it started with the creators trying to think of what the most '10s issue was and landed on trannys and political correctness. Then they ended up having to hire a consultant to make sure they weren't offending anyone, which stripped all of the humor out of the scenario.

When they were airing, Hey Arnold was easily the most popular, followed by Rocko, and then Zim. Rocko was pretty popular at its height but Hey Arnold pretty easily eclipsed it by its second season. Zim actually didn't get great ratings and first and funnily enough was cancelled right as viewership was starting to pick up steam, it became much more popular AFTER it was cancelled.

As for the online fandoms themselves, Zim clears the other two easily, like it's not even a contest. Literally inescapable in the 00s and the fandom never really died, just became less prominent. Arnold didn't really have much of an online presence until the early 2010s when there was this weird revival of interest, but ever since then it's had a relatively decent online fandom. Rocko's never really had much of an online fandom, not even sure why because they ran reruns of the show for years.

I won't deny Hey Arnold's popularity, but was Rocko really bigger than Zim? Always feels like the former's popularity is exaggerated, unless I really don't remember what Nick was like back then

Rocko was easily the worst of the three movies. I don’t care if you prefer Arnold or Zim but if you put Rocko over any of those movies you’re wrong.

One of Florpus' bigger issues was that Earth didn't feel like a somewhat dystopian shithole anymore, which ruins the show's joke that Zim is putting all his effort into conquering something that isn't worth it, with Dib on the other end putting all his effort into defending something that isn't worth it.

I can agree with that it was a bit less edgy and Gaz suffered, but over all it was dumb fun and zim is still oblivious to failing at the end of it they did an alright jerb.
>>
>>146906791
Jhonen did explain in an interview that Gaz got redesigned because even back when the show was still airing, he'd constantly kick himself for her outfit. He thought it made her look too much like a teenager, when she was supposed to be young enough to want to go to Chuck E Cheese for her birthday. He just took the revival comic as an opportunity to finally rectify it.

Her personality was probably just a result of her looking less aggressive.

Yeah Rocko was fairly popular, it was probably the #2 Nicktoon behind Rugrats at its peak. Zim wasn't big when it was airing, it blew up shortly after it was cancelled. Keep in mind I'm talking about while these shows were airing here, Spongebob is obviously the #1 most popular Nicktoon overall.

Some of them are.

Ironically, the comic had a more fitting end to Invader Zim than florpus.

Making Dib the protagonist made Enter the Florpus feel like a bigger deal beyond just the longer runtime. You don't know what you're talking about, man.
>>
>>146911744
Using Dib as the protagonist has been the plan since invader Dib was planned and ultimately scrapped. I think it was originally supposed to be a zim rescue mission for invader Tenn, who had the malfunctioning s.i.r robots. Which would have saw Dib use Tak ship and team up with the resisties against the tallest.

I forget the ending but I think Zim would have ended up being a protector of earth meanwhile Dib fucked off to go explore space.

Should've had the Resisty and Dib toppling the empire since I'm confident there will never be another Zim animated thing again.

Static Cling had fitting visuals but an awful plot.

>Making Dib the protagonist made Enter the Florpus feel like a bigger deal beyond just the longer runtime
Except it totally and compltely misses the point. It portrays Dib as some heckin wholesome baby who just wants to protect earth instead of an obsessed schizo who wants to vivisect supernatural beings and cares more about being proven right than actually saving the earth.

Meanwhile, Zim gets to barely do anything other than to be a generic movie villain. There's no conclusion for him. They even did the "Zim finds out about mission being fake" thing that every single fanfic did, and instead of doing anything interesting with it they just reset it to the status quo at the end.

Florpus was ridiculously generic in that way. Dib was just a good heroic kid, Gaz was just 'tough but deep down loving' sister, Membrane was the 'i was never ashamed of you' father, Zim was just the badguy evilman who gets defeated and explodes at the end. The heroes win and the bad guys explode and lose.

That's not Zim. How can that even be called Invader Zim? It has nothing of the stuff that made IZ special. It's just a generic movie cartoon plot.

Always thought Static Cling's was the weakest movie compared to Hey Arnold and Enter the Florpus. Mostly cause reviving a popular show to make nostalgia bux just to make the story's lesson be "Don't be nostalgic for the past, you have to accept change" is basically a huge waste of time. Especially since they just crammed all the best jokes into the trailer.
>But what about the
I know about the tranny frog. And I genuinely don't care, it literally exists just to repeat the same joke that Ralph/Rachel was around for in their first two episodes, just with a very tiny twist.
>>
>>146914056
>Always thought Static Cling's was the weakest movie compared to Hey Arnold and Enter the Florpus.
No Hey Arnold was left unfinished. It was always supposed to end with Jungle Book. The studio made the creator do a movie before jungle book about Arnold saving the neighborhood hood, surprise surprise nobody liked it so they cancelled Hey Arnold.

Imvader Zim was also cancelled. Which was sort of a weird effect of randomly showing episode of the season that was already made before the cancellation.
>>
>>146914159
I do count the Jungle Book and Enter the Florpus as their movies, but point taken on that. I do understand the anons' dissatisfaction with Enter the Florpus, considering it was partially based on the comic book which was made after Jhonen Vasquez decided to lighten up marginally on how much Gaz hated Dib. Do wonder if people would have preferred the movie ending like the comic book did, aka with Dib and Zim basically trapped in an eternal time loop of the world being destroyed by literal alien time shit.
>>
>>146914200
Ending on a time loop is cliche'd, basically can't commit to an ending even though he didn't want to do more show. Would've rather seen the unfinished episodes in comic form than the lobby, off-model nonsense we got.
