> Jesper makes a whole town a paradise, he also did most of the heavylifting considering he was the one sneaking into gorillions of houses at night
> Everyone is happy, educated, and friendly with each other
> "Wtf Jesper... you had... A PERSONAL AGENDA in all the helpful things you did?! How dare you... so uncool.
What? I literally don't understand why were they so mad? His actions saved the town, why he fuck were they mad for that he had a personal stake in helping the town? He was essentially just doing his job anyway.

This would of been better if this was part of Klaus plan to trick those clan leaders, like he did with the fake presents, he could of been like, "I'm a bit upset about the lying but I knew these guys would try to sabotage us" or something like that but they played this trope completely straight :/

I love the movie so I try to give it too much credit: he lied to Klaus and Alva. He hid his motives and reasonings from them. It wasn't a huge betrayal, it's not like he was selling them out and making their conditions worse by the end of it, it's just that he's not that selfless guy they thought he was. That hurts, but they should understand that he really changed his mind despite how things started and he wanted to stay and he loved them. Them rejecting him rather than accepting his apology and believing him when he said he would give up everything he was about to gain to stay with them.

> Gets to do what she’s dreamed about doing

>>
Haven't watched in a while but I read it as more just they assumed he was abandoning them and felt betrayed and hurt that while he meant a lot to them they apparently meant nothing to him. Which is especially hurtful to a woman who loved him, a man who resigned himself to be a lone hermit for the rest of his days, and tightly knit clan that accepted him despite being an outsider.
That being said yeah it's kinda forced conflict.

>>
>>146900144
Yeah I understand their anger for being used but how they don't even try to hear him out is infuriating. The 'liar revealed' trope is always the worst.

Studio execs hate anything soulful because it’s expensive and kids hate hand drawn animation.
Computer technology is better according to them.

Because it looks old and cheap, 3d has a whole extra dimension for the same price.
I'm not joking The novel tech aspect is what gets most people with cg.

>3d has a whole extra dimension for the same price.
3d is far more expensive on average than 2d. Stop spreading this common misconception.
>>
>>146905752
What do you mean? Both tickets cost the same..
>>
>>146900144
Yeah, I watched Klaus for the first time a bit ago and was in AWE at how fucking good everything was, I seriously cannot understate how in love with this movie I am now... But then this scene came up and I rolled my eyes 'cuz I've SEEN this stupid scene a million times and I know exactly where everything was going. Everything else was amazing though.
>>
>>146905752
3d allows for assets to be reused on different projects. Anything rigged can work as long as the next project is using the right software while non-rigged assets can be more widely reused. In cases where you have to remodel the assets it's much easier when you've got the originals to use as a starting point.
>>
>>146906387
Even with that in mind, 2D is cheaper. Kung Fu Panda 2 reused the models for the entire main cast and still cost more than The Lion King did adjusted for inflation. Or Princess and the Frog, which came out only 5 years earlier.

Yeah people keep trying to find a way it's cheaper, and there's just no way. At its core, 3D is more expensive to design, to render, all of it. To make matters worse 3d still ends up having a lot of animatics and pencil tests to explore scenes so you still need people with that knowledge and time, so it's not just a "we save money outsourcing to pajeets to render".
3D is not, never was, and never will be cheaper than 2D but it is far more PROFITABLE.
Which sadly I believe is purely based on audience tastes
>>
>>146906782
Blame people who see it is a technical marvel while not understanding the technique that goes into animation. It's like people who think better graphics means better games.

1. This was not "lies of ommission," he straight-up fabricated nonsense to pull on heartstrings. Later he didn't need to, but it started with whoppers of lies
2. Once the audience of assholes was gone, the Klaus crew decided they forgave Jesper, and, what's more, they were confident in his inner goodness and made plans for his return.

Likely the main reason they were mad is because Jesper inspired everyone else around him to improve things in their town for the better with no interest in personal gain. He inspired Klaus to use the toys he made to bring joy to the children of town for no other reason than because it's right, he inspired Alva to stay and dip into the savings she had been building for years just to escape the hellhole so she can try and save the kids (which he never discussed with her, he just forced the kids on her) and he inspired the townsfolks as well as the Sami tribe to lend hand to their fellows who they either hated days ago or never even met.
So to them, they all assumed Jesper was this selfless man who had arrived one day and started making things better, making people better.

Then they find out he was manipulating all of them just so he could leave the town and go back to being rich. It's reasonable to see that they would all feel betrayed, especially since he kept it a secret the entire time despite growing so close to everyone.
If he had spilled the beans earlier they probably would of taken it a bit better.
>>
>>146908442
And yet, his actions betrayed his words. Jesper said everyone is in it for themselves, yet Jesper seemingly put himself through pain and torment night after night in a freezing shit hole just to make kids happier, after all, the postman wasn't getting rich off a handful of pennies and some letters, and as far as Klaus could see, Jesper wasn't getting anything out of the deal besides making kids happy.

kids hate hand drawn animation, but seem to always love cartoons
anime is dominating the market with it's hand drawn animation
you can tell that it's suit propaganda to think that kids don't like drawings
>>

Most people agree the "liar reveal" plot is forced and dumb and just exists so the climax can happen.
>>
>>146906798
it's 100% silicon valley tech companies are pushing the idea that handrawn animation is dead or a thing of the past
reminder that all these 3D movies, render farms and 3DCG shit is powered by their GPUs and CPUs and run on shit like unreal engine

Maybe suit bias but when was the last successful western 2D movie? TV and Movie are different format and for whatever reason it doesn't translate to the same success What's the explanation apart from audiences jsut aren't that into it?
>>
>>146912582
I don't agree
>>
>>146900144
My problem with it is that the good scene with his dad that followed used this scene to make it happen, but it didn't need to. At least it wasn't prolonged so I'm very forgiving.

If you want to do a liar revealed perfectly look at Rango. His lying is a central part of his character. And he ends up living up to his lies by the end which is cool.
>>
>>146912616
>last successful western 2D movie?
none, because they don't make any 2D western movies anymore and the only 2D movies that are successful are not western
but that isn't because kids hate 2D hand-drawn animation
hollywood has been severing the relationship with 2D animation for a while now and they follow trends like crazy
my guess is that hollywood doesn't bother marketing 2D shit as much as 3D shit, because they have to push new 3D tech
i know it's not a movie, but hazbin hotel and its spinoff is pretty damn successful, so there is still interest in western 2D hand drawn animation
>>
>>146912616
When was the last major one aside from Klaus and anime even released? Winnie the Pooh in 2011?
After Pooh, Disney had 5 big 3D movies in a row, which made them convinced they were on the right path. Then Ralph Breaks The Internet happened and other than a small spike from Encanto it’s all been 3D flops ever since.
>>
>>146913615
Successful western 2d movies tend to be European and only do well in Europe.

Be thankful GKIDs throws us some scraps every once in a while with some one-weekend-long theatrical releases of shit like Sirocco and Mars Express.
