The Incredible World of DiC, DIC Entertainment Corporation, DIC Audiovisuel, DIC Enterprises, DIC Animation City, DIC Entertainment L.P., DIC Productions, or simply DiC.
Let's talk about DiC and the wonderful characters that DiC gave us. I don't know who you are and I don't have to know, I still can be sure that you grew up with DiC.
Our childhoods would have been poorer without all the good DiC we got.
>>
Hey wait a minute… “DiC”… kind of sounds like… the d-word. Like, d*ck. Why is no one talking about this?

I LOVE dic
>>
To me, it seems like DiC peaked in the mid 1980s. Much of its 1990s and 2000s shows weren't as good.
>>
Ha ha, very funny. DiC sounds like dick, yeah, amusing.
Instead of joking about names that sound like naughty words, let's talk about the Best DiC characters, like Penny.
>>
It's weird looking back how most of my favorite cartoons were made by dic.
>>
>>146903238
Someone described DiC as the Roger Corman of animation and I think that's 99% accurate save the one percent where he produced a (terrible) cartoon himself.

>DiC as the Roger Corman of animation
I'm not quite sure that's correct. Would need to see it argued.

They made a lot of stuff on the cheap and many people who would go on to work with bigger studios got their start with them.

OK, that makes sense.

One-off character but it has to be her. I guess if I had to pick a reoccurring character, Beth Lestrade was pretty decent as I recall.

Growing up with 70s and early 80s Hanna Barbera, we were already used to cheap
>>
>>146905979
Sure, but then again all TV animation back then was fairly shoddy, DiC had decent quality in the '80s but dropped off towards the end of the '80s and slowly died throughout the '90s being buried by the '90s TV cartoon renaissance.

I prefer Sunbow Marvel because I'm not a fag who loves DiC

yeah, lot of use stopped watching as many cartoons in the 90's too but I cant help but feel like the political admin ushered in shit like 'educational' captain power and dic gi joe and others, which had a slight difference in tone and this ruined a lot of cartoons. we no longer had based toy cartoons aimed at boys, but we got more comedy and tamer family cartoons

so the peanuts license is owned by a canadian company? thats crazy

The DIC universe is lowkey strong as Hell
>Care Bears
>80s WWF
>Ghostbusters
>Inspector Gadget
>Alvin & the chipmunks briefly
>Archie & Sabrina shared universe
>Nintendo universe
>Sonic, too
>at one point, even fucking Sailor Moon
They were the biggest animation company of the 80s and early 90s!
>>
>>146910304
No its not a letdown
>>
>>146910390
unfortunately the mid-to-late '90s DiC reached several nadir points, particularly with abomination that passes itself as "Tex Avery", though Hammerman was bellwether that the fun times were coming to an end
>>
>>146906014
Cause they're french
>>
>>146910325
they don't *own* peanuts.

peanuts is still controlled by the Schulz family/estate. but Wildbrain basically acts as their manager and directs their presence in the media. on that graph, peanuts worldwide is listed as a separate adjacent brand.

wildbrain is apparently the reason Peanuts is exclusively on Apple. idk the all the backroom machinations but apparently ABC/Disney was already ready to drop the broadcasts of the holiday specials (D+ was on the horizon, they were tired of paying to license shit)

long story short; the stuff i've read between the lines was that wildbrain was not prepared to be dropped by disney and they scrambled and if they were a better company they could have found a better deal that didn't lock peanuts behind an apple paywall

They were French, Dic became 100% American by 1987 and the French studio became C&D, C&D was absorbed into Saban Paris in 1996.

>at one point, even fucking Sailor Moon
makes me wonder what other anime licenses would've gotten the dic treatment in an alternate universe
>>
>>146912121
They stopped doing anime because Toei saw how bad to was and told the rest of the anime industry not to trust them with their stuff.

Oh for sure, but I think that's the point. Even the adult Hello Kitty characters are short and "chibi", meanwhile Catnip and the rest of the original characters for this show (who usually play the villains in stories) are supposed to contrast them

It meant he was going to burn a bunch of CDs that said nothing but >>146919303 (DIC!) and start handing them out to unsuspecting persons for free.
https://youtu.be/NHO84rOp8FQ

It would seem like a kind gesture at first but once they got home, put the CD in a CD player or computer and it was just audio of a guy yelling "DIC!" they'd get confused.
