Their movies were always good when they put you into the perspective of somebody and were unabashed honest about their perspective. Even if it was a stance that might upset or annoy people, the movies ended up being good because they weren't afraid to show the unpleasant parts of someone's life. "More conservative" just means taking that out, taking no risks, which means more boring and more generic movies to please a more general audience.

This probably shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Pixar had done this previously with the Cars 2/Planes franchise, and every since they were bought by Disney and started seeing their staff moved out to other departments, it was probably inevitable that they'd begin just manufacturing generic junk animation. This is really just the final nail in the coffin of original Pixar animation. It's more surprising that it was made public (the talk about more conservative content, that is) as opposed to just keeping it all behind the scenes and being silent about it.
