God she's beautiful

1/3I REALLY want to like this episode. I really do. There are alot of good ideas in here. But I just can't. There's just to much bad. First and least important, they use the same character model twice in the course of 5 seconds. Secondly, how the fuck did Jaune and Ren's aura run out so quickly? Ren is kind of understandable. He was fighting alot. But Jaune? He barely did anything. Not to mention, he supposedly has "alot" of aura, so how did he run out so quick? This is the most blatantly example of "aura breaks when the writers want it to break" we've had so far.Thirdly, why is Ruby's montage in 2d? It's not that big a deal, but it's really distracting.

>>1470648892/3Fourth, I really want to like Cordovin letting RWBY go. But I just can't. There's no arc. It would be way better if the show actually portrayed Ruby as in the wrong, and had to earn Cordovin's trust, which she would do by freezing the leviathan. Idk how to do it exactly. But how about when Ruby gives her "kid power" speech to Cordovin, Cordovin calls her out on her b.s. have her say something like "you can't just come in and demand to have things your way, trust has to be earned." Tie it back to the themes of trust surrounding Ozpin. This way, Cordovin letting them go is atleast somewhat satisfying. Is it the best arc? No. Did I put more thought into it then the writers? Yes.Everything else I liked though. I REALLY liked Ruby using Jinn to freeze time. It's a textbook example of clever writing. Using a mechanic from a different part of the story in a way it was never intended to be used but still makes sense. I love it.I also like the Ozpin reveal. Ozpin needs some redeeming qualities at this point. I also like how Yang takes the least charitable interpretation, "he's been spying on us?" Aposed to Oscar, who takes the most charitable interpretation, "he's been looking out for us." It's a great way of characterizing them both.
>>147064889>>1470649023/3 Cinder and Neo get new outfits. I don't like them. A RWBYtuber I used to watch put it best. They look like hookers. Not cheap hookers, the fancy kind. The kind you have to schedule an appointment for, but hookers non the less. I'm not against characters being sexy. I like tits as much as the next guy. But I liked the more subtle and classy sexiness they displayed before.
>>147064878Entire. Team.
>>147064889Forgot the pic>>147064878He got to fuck not one, but two hotties.>>147064895If she doesn't want me admiring her body, she shouldn't be wearing that.
>"A huntress is supposed to protect others to the bitter end."So we jump from one anime trope to the next, from mecha to Godzilla. He even spits fire out of his mouth! To be honest, I kind of thought (or hoped I guess) that Cinder and Neo were going to swoop into the finale, fighting the team after they exhausted themselves fighting Cordovin/Adam. But instead we get this random Kaiju fight. I know RWBY is actually an anime and so embracing the tropes is par the course, but I always saw the anime aspect as kind of incidental to the type of show it is. RWBY is more steeped in western folklore than it is Asian culture. That's not to say it doesn't work or shouldn't be included. In fact, there is something interesting here - clashing western fairy tale stories with modern eastern pop-folklore like Godzilla and other animes. But that said, there's not much going on here. Ruby ex machinas her way out the finale just like she did in volume 3. The fact that they sort of (but not really) explained her silver eyes power a few episodes ago doesn't change how cheap it is. At least the Adam fight last episode had more of an emotional beat because it was directly tied to Yang and Blake's character arcs. Here, Godzilla appears out of nowhere, then 5 minutes later Ruby saves the day with her new superpower. It's just lazy. I can't believe how quickly this season fell off. Although I did like that little Wizard of Oz reference in the end credits scene, I will admit. (1/3)
And on that note, I guess it's time to reflect on the volume as a whole. This may sound extreme, but I honestly think 4 of the top 5 episodes of this show are in the first half of volume 6. Only the pilot episode of volume 1 comes to mind when I think of comparable quality. Episodes like Uncovered, The Lost Fable, and Alone in the Woods I think provide a solid blueprint for the type of show RWBY should be. They are both character driven and thematically deep. The writing was consistently clever, tapping into core themes like the recycling of old stories/legends/ to create something new, and playing up the generational conflict more than any other volume before it. Ruby, who was a character that had largely been stagnant in volumes 4 and 5, felt like finally had agency and purpose in the narrative. It was honestly the best the show had ever been. Then something changed when the team finally got to Argus. It was like the quality just dipped more and more with each passing episode, forgetting everything that had just come before. What happened? My working theory, that I mentioned last thread, is that I think the writers are just pretty bad about writing more than one story at a time. Once they got to Argus, and had to balance getting the plot back up and running, reuniting with JNR, and building up the finale, they just sort of lost control. As volume 4 showed more than any other, they just aren't good at balancing multiple things at once. This is probably best shown in the last couple episodes - jumping between this random mecha fight and the Blake/Yang vs Adam fight. It's such an obvious tonal mismatch. There's very little emotional stakes involved in the mecha fight whereas Blake/Yang vs Adam is the climax of an arc that's been going since volume 3 (really since the Blake trailer in 2013 to be accurate). They attempt to give Ruby's scene at the end a bit more weight, with the cute flashbacks and all, but it doesn't compare and isn't that compelling. (2/3)
(3/3) This was my second volume that I watched with a fresh set of eyes. Unlike with volumes 1-4, there's not a lot of baked-in nostalgia or distorted memories that could get in the way of my enjoyment. So watching the first half of this volume for the first time, I was honestly really impressed, and there were a few moments where I actually regretted giving up on the show so many years ago. It's a real bummer they couldn't maintain that momentum. Well, there's always the next one...(Current ranking: 1 > 3 > 6 > 5 > 2 > 4. Six could have easily been the best... if not for these last few episodes.) >"We were there for each other."
>>147064865So she's Dorathy right?
Said it before, I think 6 is probably the second best season because of how strong of a start it had. It just fell apart so hard at the end. It has both the best and some of the worst episodes in the series.
>>147065495I completely forgot to give my thoughts on the volume as a whole. I was just so numb by the end. Like with volume 5, I have to split this one in 2. The first half and the second half. First half: legit 8/10 top notch stuff. But the second half... 2/10 absolutely AWFUL. It's like the show became a caricature of what it was pre-volume 6.Overall: 4/10Volumes 1-3: 7/10Volume 4: 5/10Volume 5: 4/10
>>147066291>It's like the show became a caricature of what it was pre-volume 6.It's almost like the first half of this volume was ghost-written by someone competent lmao. I legit have no idea how they fumbled such a good set up
>>147064865>>147065503>>147066291When I first watched volume 6, I considered it the 2nd best volume. And even though I have more complaints rewatching it now, I still consider it 2nd best out of the volumes you’ve watched so far.If only because I still consider v6c6 Alone in the Woods to be the 2nd best episode of the whole show even including the episodes you guys haven’t gotten to yet.Now here’s something both of you should take into account going forward.Volumes 1-6 were written by Miles and Kerry (and Monty of course when he was alive) but starting in volume 7, 2 new writers, Kiersi and Eddy are joining the writing team. And on top of that they’re going to start listing in the credits who wrote each episode. So if you get to an episode you think is amazing or fuck awful take a look in the credits to see who wrote it.I’m curious if like me you’ll start to notice patterns regarding episodes written by Person X vs Person Y.
>>147066629There's a lot to love and to recommend about volume 6. It might be a bit unfair of me to let the last few episodes diminish my love for the volume as a whole, but I guess I just found the decline towards the end pretty jarring. But I agree, Alone in the Woods ranks pretty high on my favorite episodes list too. I'll keep an eye on the credits next volume, thanks for the heads up. Miles and Kerry have been the main writers of the show since the beginning, so it should be interesting to see how new writers shake things up, whether good or bad.
>>147066751For me I think it’s a matter of the “bad” parts of this volume I still liked more than large swaths of v4 and v5. Compared to stuff like Weiss’s whole plotline in v4 and Blake’s whole plotline in v4 and v5, stuff like the Cordovin mech fight or Adam nonsense don’t even register for me as that bad.It also helps the action (minus said mech fight) was top tier. The best it’s been since the Monty days and in my opinion some fights like Neo vs Cinder even topping some of Monty’s work.
>>147064874Get that ugly ice cream out of the fp meme.
>>147067081I believe I read on the RWBY Wiki that some of the Blake/Yang vs Adam fight had some recycled Monty animation that never made the cut in volume 3. But yeah I agree, as a whole the action was MUCH better this volume. Not even just in terms of choreography, just the execution in general (I.e. no weird crosscutting like volume 5 had). I rank volume 6 higher than volumes 4 and 5, but lower than 1 and 3. The only reason for this is because I think volumes 1 and 3 were more consistent in quality throughout the entire season, whereas volume 6 (despite having much better episodes) just lacks that consistency, which bothers me more than it probably should.

>>147064874I don't understand her outfit at all. It's honestly less attractive than before and she chose it knowing damn well that she's going to Atlas in the middle of fucking winter.
