Watched only one season of it. It was a nice show.

Then I saw Operation NOVEL which took the show to a Harem Romance Comedy level and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Especially with all the world building and the references. It’s funny how I see a new character and get surprised at how this character actually appeared in the show at some capacity. The VN’s rendition of Laura Limpin was my favorite.

I was definitely disappointed by how the show decided to take the premise of Kids NexT Door and take it…IN OUTER SPACE! WOOOOooo!

I know that Operation NOVEL can do better.

One of my favorites from that era. Took itself seriously without going overboard, made you want to actually be a part of the adventure. Also showed that growing up wasn't bad, despite most of the villains being adults. Probably the first time I was invested in two characters getting together with 3 and 4 as well.

Pic related is Numbuh 411 from the show.

>that went a little overboard
The best way I can describe it. It boarders on kids playing to actually conspiracy was real the whole time. Take for instance the names being numbuh's. At first when you watch the short of it just being kids in a pool you can buy they name themselves 1-5

Then it's like you find out the organization being going on forever and kids all have number so it's weird when sector 5 starts with 1-5 and the leader of the kids next door is numbuh 362 the one in charge of decommissioning is 86.

The problem I have with Galactic Kids Next Door is the same problem I have with Multiverse Shenanigans.

The galaxy is big and far and wide. Too big for anyone to even care about. It’s one thing to have an organization of Kids trying to stop the evil adults and their rules against kids and whatnot. But do you really give a shit about what goes on in Planet Delta Centuri? Probably not.

And if they did go through with it, they’d either have to cover a scant few significant portions of other planets, or there’d be a planet of the week with aliens that we’ll only see for one episode then forget about. And what does that mean for Earth anyways? Or was that already covered in the previous series? Either way, I think I’d have trouble taking Galactic Kids Next Door seriously.

Personally I’ll take the Undiscovered Country over the Final Frontier any day of the week.

Heh you want quality discussion kid?
Contact me if you want quality discussion 24/7. Discord: redmics
I'm happy to oblige and give me a date whenever you want to make a KND thread again.

Numbuh 5 was the most interesting character out of the 5.
Followed by 2 when he had his own episodes.

Numbuh 2 was interesting how he was a cowardly crackwising moron on the level of Numbuh 3 , but when he got his own episodes he suddenly was a different personality with depth and good writing to him, not afraid of shit and even being morally ambigous like Numbuh 5 when she's tired of everyone's shit.

Numbuh 1 was a tool throughout the end always a workaholic retard who gets manipulated by everyone. His Morpheus stuff is only cool when he makes very small appearances as a secondary character that doesn't show his flaws. Numbuh 1 had too many flaws to be a quality character. He's a good villain though.

Numbuh 4 was similar to Numbuh 1 as one man armies taking down everything by himself by much more annoying because of his personality, but still not as annoying as Numbuh 3.

Numbuh 3 & 4 are probably the weakest of the teams, lacking any character, morality, intelligence, self-awareness, greater agenda.

Numbuh 5 & Numbuh 2 would be great together if Numbuh 2 wouldn't be written like 3 when he isn't the focus.
KND had excellent pacing just like Dexter's Lab(outside of it's crappy endings). A lot of the episode absolutely did not feel like they were 10 minutes only and whenever they got 20 minutes it really felt different and paid off. I wish they'd have gotten 30 minute episodes more often.

10 minute episodes simply allows for more diversity while being enough time to develop the action properly without ending after just 1 scene.

I would have hired the creators of Courage the Cowardly Dog & Kids Next Door to work on Earthworm Jim. The 90s Earthworm Jim felt too much like Animaniacs/Freakazoid, too disjointed. The Mask & The Tick did a better job with comedy action parody superhero shows. A parody requires some elements of serious in order to have what to parody like Earthworm.

As such KND again was an excellent self-aware parody that managed to evolve its tiny concept into something bigger, but imagine if it understood to parody GI Joe/Command & Conquer faster & better in the first place. The James Bond/secret agency parody was always there, but it felt more like a Super Sentai show rather than a James Bond show.

As such I have to mention Fillmore! that is a very rare genre of parody that takes itself seriously. KND also took itself seriously, but always had a semblance of comedy & stupidity "lol it was cooties all along".
KND cannot do drama correctly beyond the kid infected with an age-up disease, that's the only drama it ever managed to do correctly, it definitely cannot do relationshits correctly.
>>
>>147090716
Fillmore! takes itself so seriously that it manages to do drama correctly. However Fillmore! realizes its limitations. It's not primarily a comedy show despite Fillmore's quips and most people described the 2 characters and most detective characters as humorless and no fun allowed even if Fillmore & Ingrid are pretty fun since he's an ex-deliquent. But they definitely come off as not the kind of people who you can easily trick or have a very relaxing time with since after all they are goddamn cops.

That plays in its advantage since most of the humour comes from the secondary characters and Fillmore and Ingrid are so serious that there isn't even a hint of relationshit and any form of stupidity. Even the slightest bit of emotion, backstory, out of character/out of line action gets reprimanded or dealt with in a mature way.
Even to the point Fillmore! gladly assists in getting the bullies beaten up and the end lesson is that the writers don't have a message against stopping them. Still not as mature as some might want, but better than pretending. As such Fillmore! might often times come off as hypocritical due to its mandated Disney preaching where you have to figure out on your own where the writers dodged Disney's mandates and where they couldn't anymore. Still not as mature & serious as some might want just like comparing KND & Fillmore to quality movies where there's no mandates, but still not a dumb show made by uneducated, illiterate people that never read good books in their life.
>>
>>147084026
Billy & Mandy was a very mid show that's a bad example of parody shows on the level of Scary Movie that cannot take themselves seriously for one second. Still better than Teen Titans Go though which has an awful pacing.
I'm a FoxKids watcher so I didn't really care much for CN. I still found Courage & KND and some episodes of Samurai Jack great and unique enough to stay on the channel before I closed my brain when Cow & Chicken and I Am Weasel aired. Or heaven forbid Sheep in the Big City.

>In a well-meaning (if somewhat misguided) attempt to help Wally overcome his aggressive macho complex, Numbuh 3 decides to encourage him to gradually explore and embrace, in the safety of their shared privacy, his more sensitive and feminine side.
>Nonetheless, rather than getting him to engage in some kind of actual therapy, Kuki being Kuki, she tries to achieve her goal by making Numbuh 4 dress up in a sparkly myriad of Rainbow Monkey-themed outfits, taking the opportunity to do so whenever they're alone together, each successive one of said garments being cuter, girlier, and skimpier than the last.
>Despite his predictable initial reluctance and never-ending complaints, Wally, not wanting to aggravate the already uncomfortable situation, eventually chooses to bite the bullet and go through with these secret "fashion shows", as long as they make Numbuh 3 happy.
>However, although he convinces himself that these almost-daily ordeals are all for Kuki's sake, Wally can't help but start feeling a warm, tingling sensation whenever Numbuh 3 compliments and flatters his looks, despite how embarrassing and demeaning he finds the clothes that she essentially forces him to wear.
>After a month or so has passed, Wally, against his better judgement, starts to umpromptedly wear by himself, in the solitude of his own room, some of the outfits with which Kuki has been regularly supplying him.
>As he looks at himself in the mirror while modeling stuff such as brightly-colored crop tops, panties, and knee-socks, the memories of the praise given to him by Numbuh 3 echo in the back of his head, and, to his own blushing incredulity, he's unexpectedly overwhelmed by a fulfilling sense of pride like he's never felt before, not in his tenacity, or in his brawn, but in something else entirely different.
>Before he has any chance to repress it, these new-found sensations take the form of a stuttering, sighing whisper:
>"I-I'm... c-cute..."

Random question regarding that episode was it implied that Numbuh 1 also had a crush on her or was Numbuh 5 saying "and don't say Numbuh 4" just her saying she believes him?
>>
>>147084026
I kind of wish it remained simple. Dialing of annoyances kids have with adult or adult stereotypes (unfair adult swim, grandmas that overstuff you, the dentist, ice cream trucks driving by you) was great and comfy while hilarious in how seriously it was all taken. I think it somewhat jumped the shark when they got a base on the moon.
>>
>>147092651
The feedback is much appreciated. That one was my first try at writing a greentext of such kind and length (I just polished my original version from the previous KND thread a tiny bit more), so I'm glad that it ended up being well-received.

I actually considered writing a shorter follow-up to it, centered slightly more on the perspective of Kuki (in which her unsuspected feelings of envy towards femboy Numbuh 4 would have made her grow aware of her latent dominatrix streak), but I must admit that I had already lost steam by that point, and I couldn't get past beyond the first sentence.

This and other similar greentexs were more of an excuse to share Dandi's art, anyway, so I'm at ease leaving this one as an open-ended scenario.

>>147093988
I originally intended for that pic to be the companion to the potential second part of my greentext. Dandi's talent would have deserved that I put in the extra effort, but my laziness got the better of me.

I preferred Billy and Mandy as a kid, and I like it even more now. One thing I will give KND is it had the perfect movie ending (just like EEnE, the best cartoon of all time). No I don't give a shit about Galactic KND or comics or VNs, those don't matter. I still remember my favorite episode was horror themed where they were performing search and rescue at a rundown base, only for the code number to be for a fucking trading card.

It's a shame Billy and Mandy was dragged out, abruptly cancelled, then spawned a one-off spinoff before being cancelled again. But that's kind of how the show was spawned from Evil Con Carne, so something something circle of life. The show was infamous for higher ups at CN particularly hating it as they shifted over to live action, but I think KND was treated better.

Havent seen NOVEL, so I will assume youre talking about GKND. I don't like that choice either, but since GKND never existed as an actual show it Lizzie being an alien sits in a pseudo-canon where it is NOT canon since there's no show about it, but it is in concept and a rough teaser sketch animation so it is POSSIBLE.

I like KND for how the inventions can be creative and the adventures are fun action.
Billy and Mandy is great for how weird it can be and it's cynical jokes. Something about the paranormal and magical nature is great. And I can accept a couple of dumb humor too. Not to fond of fart jokes or burps, but they don't detract too much from the otherworldly enjoyment I get. I consider Big Boogie Adventure the end.

One of my favorite cartoons. Craig of the Creek is the only cartoon I know came close to the vibe of KND.

Billy and Mandy is also great but KND is better in the sense that it has a real storyline compared to the high jinks of Billy and Mandy.

I disagree about Billy and Mandy, I feel B&M's highs hit way higher than KND's, but KND felt more consistently good for longer, only petering out near the very end
Honestly, comparing the two is a bit of a fool's errand, because they're both good for different reasons. Billy and Mandy are great at slapstick and a cynical sense of humor, Kids Next Door is great for its worldbuilding.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I was kinda busy helping to host a visiting relative. Although I'm flattered by your proposal, I will have to decline it. Issues of time availability aside, I currently still lack enough confidence in my writing skills to apply them in a steady manner for anything more than occasional 4chan shitposting, much less to venture into a collaborative project (also, to compound the issue, I'm an ESL). Nevertheless, I hope that you can find a suitable colleague for your endeavor. Best of luck.

While I do love samurai Jack it's kind of weird on how the show nowadays is treated as like one of CN's most successful properties, when the show was more of a modest success for the network but wasn't bigger than stuff like Powerpuff girls and and Genndy's first show Dexter

>>
>>147084026
Super good show, very funny, very fun, creative, and the small amount of worldbuilding/serious stories always worked. I was upset about GKND not getting off the ground cause it sounds like it had actual huge potential to continue that legacy while making things a bit more action packed, which seems like a good place to take the series.
>>
>>147086299
>The galaxy is big and far and wide. Too big for anyone to even care about. It’s one thing to have an organization of Kids trying to stop the evil adults and their rules against kids and whatnot. But do you really give a shit about what goes on in Planet Delta Centuri?

GKND works because the story of the show since the start focused on how this conflict grew from corrupt evil people turning adults and kids against one another, rupturing families and relationships, and it even showed more sides of that with stuff like the girls vs boys episode. G:KND was supposed to explore that to a deeper level by actually shining a light on the evil thing that started all of this in the first place. It's very compelling because literally all the KND characters lived their entire lives with an acceptance of the fact that adults being evil and families being ruptured for the sake of the KND was the normal and right thing to do. GKND was gonna rupture that in front of them all and it would have been something very compelling to see, especially with Nigel taking the side of the KND.
>>
>>147086299
Imagine the absolute kino we would have gotten if G:KND got greenlit and the evil group behind the KND was revealed to be the Fuse from Fusionfall. Fusionfall was basically a KND game at its core anyway.

Eh. They're not really part of the Kids vs Adults narrative. They're the mysterious conspiracy within a conspiracy whose goals and resources are too terrible to grapple with. The Garden of Eden comparisons and the idea that unfettered 2x4 Technology is functionally Clarketech should create a backdrop of fear and awe, not curiosity.
>>
Given the current state of Cartoon Network, I sort of hope GKND never happens.
>>
>>147136435
It'd have to be either Operation F.O.U.N.T.A.I.N. or I.T.

>>
>>147084026
2x4 technology was the tightest shit.
sure they made most generic laser blasts, but i could believe the kids built most of the stuff out of things they would have around
and even the mechs like hippy hop look handmade rather than something professionally done
also not every adult was bad which worked well that sometimes the kids were the problem

was kind of waiting for a reveal after Operation Zero that Nigel could also use flame powers like his Uncle Father but only if pushed far enough. could have been something hinted at in a couple of episodes
>>
>>147139048
Would have been neat if GKND happened and that came up. From the little we saw Nigel's obviously been through some shit out in space
>>
>>147139005
Also 5 and Cree (11) sum being 16 and Lincoln was the 16th president. There is a bunch of fun things like that in the show
>>
>>147139070
I do wonder why they (CN, Warner Bros) never took up GKND for a test pilot. Do like a ten minute episode to gauge the interest in a revival. But no, gotta let Lazzlo spend millions of dollars shitting out anime sequels no one likes.
>>
>>147138363
oh trust me i'm not advocating for a revival in the modern day. Theres a lot more problems with a modern rendition of the show besides just "woke" shit. The biggest one being the fact that kids don't socialize like they did even 10 years ago, let alone 20 years ago when the show was airing.
