what has this to do with coraline?
>>
>>147126008
holy shit, he was the author of the book this whole time?
>>
>>147125221
I wonder if the shit with Neil Gaiman is going to affect the pop culture status of this movie. Do people see it as more of a Laika thing than a Neil Gaiman thing? When I hear people talk about Coraline, the majority of the time they're talking about this movie and not the book
>>
>>147126071
Well, I was the retard who asked >>147126008
I don't plan to stop watching the movie, same way I still like Alice in Wonderland.
>>
>>147126071
It's kind of like C'thulhu stuff and Lovecraft. People know not to ask about HP's cat, and people know to keep their drinks covered around the 'Sandman'. But their works are largely innocent of their personal failings.

Sandman has that one guy who’s whole gimmick is being a rapist but also an outspoken feminist writer.

>The filmmaker holds Gaiman’s 2013 novel in high esteem – calling the book Gaiman’s crowning achievement – and envisions the film as a companion piece to the duo’s modern classic “Coraline,” describing the development title as “almost a sequel.”
Damn. That would have fucking ruled. Shame it almost certainly isn't going to be made anymore
>>
>>147127565
don't care
>>
>>147125924
Shad really screwed up when he started to draw low effort 4 panel comics. So many good stories he never finished, Oraline, Bloo Panties, The Incestibles, Sleepover.
>>
>>147127645
>describing the development title as “almost a sequel.”
Good. Coraline ended in a hight note. No need for a cashgrab sequel.
>>
>>147128338
But it wouldn't have been a cashgrab sequel to Coraline. He's just saying that thematically speaking it'd feel like a companion to Coraline.
>>
Oh hey, a reason to doodle Coraline! Now if only I wasn't just about to take a nap... Keep the thread alive and I'll draw something later.

Based
>>
>>147126512
Coraline isn't a brat and isn't tempted by the Other Mother and leaves quickly so the Other Mother pulls the parent-kidnapping plot sooner. There is no Wybie and ony one wacky neighbor. It's a more fairytale "kid meets monster, kid defeats monster" kind of story.
>>
>>147127565
>on set, he rules by fear.
typical diva director behaviour
>off set, he flirts with students 30 years younger than him in inappropriate settings.
Are they underage? Did he do anything too touchy or said something too inappropriate?

Whelp, better watch again before it gets de-listed from everything
>>
>>147126512
The dialogue is mostly unchanged but the visuals add so much to it. In the movie the other world actually looks like something that might entice Caroline initially while in the book it always has this inherent creepiness and is way less fantastical.

It's a really good American animated movie. You have these strong images like a womb (other-twins scene), and the plot about a soul-sucking creature that steals its victim's eyes. Another good thing is that the film doesn't enable Coraline's behavior, yes it is but another “moralizing kiddie plot” but it works for what the film is going for which is a fairy tale. The parents aren't the villains, it's Coraline's selfishness that fucks everything up. They're clearly having financial problems and are trying to please Coraline anyway. Of course, I wanted a more non-linear narrative like the Ghibli films, less moralizing and more abstract images. But Selick does a good job with what he has. I just noticed that Boy and Heron is very similar to that movie, I know it's the classic “Alice plot” but there are a lot of similarities between the two. How do you live is better for me a bit more because I like Miyazaki better

the girl he hit on at my college was probably 20ish and was the meekest,, least outwardly sexual girl at my school. she was mousey, like less than 5ft tall and 90lbs. if it came out that selick likes them young, I would NOT be surprised. and when you look at who he associates with - elfman, gaiman, burton* - makes me think birds of a feather flock together.

*27 y/o tim burton confessed to crushing on 15y/o winona ryder
faroutmagazine. co. uk/the-vile-sexualisation-of-winona-ryder/

another incident with selick was a real like - dude read the room - situation, like it was NOT an appropriate place to hit on someone at all. I don't want to give identifying information but it was at an event with a morbid overtone.. that's all I got.
