She was outgoing and had an athleticism to her, so she had so much over Gumball, and yet she was just as equally bashful as him in admitting their love to each other. It wasn’t really one-sided for Gumball, they both had to meet in the middle, so I found that interesting to see because it always felt like the boy always had to rise to the occasion and earn her love in cartoons. He already had it but he was too dumb, and that reflects onto Penny, making her a dumbass too, but it was all in earnest of both trying to not overstep each other. A mutual respect.Like, there really is no justification for them sticking around with each other outside of status quo. It just feels like a discount Nicole and Richard where Gumball is dragging her to his level and she has to deal with it and suck it up. He keeps escalating but Penny now serves as a reflection of everything he’s not. A good half and bad half, but that doesn’t really speak for her because it’s about how inactive she is than her actually participating with Gumball on equal footing.
