Making fun of edgy stuff I feel was warranted at one point, but I feel like it was part of a bad trend where now literally anything with any degree of harshness or dire tonality is considered to be "edgy"

I feel as though the term "edgy" has gone from meaning
>"Empty shock value."
To
>"I'm offended by literally anything harsh. Don't wrongthink and go against my puritanical, sheltered ideals."
The term is 100% a thought terminating cliche and an American corpo buzzword, because the only time you ever see it get used is in reference to harmless pop media and not towards anything genuinely pushing boundaries.
Moreover, there's people whose entire personality is being embarrassed of being into self-serious, somewhat edgy/dramatic shit when they were teens and their inability to suspend disbelief is them capitulating to ghosts.

I think this is a really big thing in LGBT circles. Shame is a very powerful tool of control.

it still is

Hitgirl's violence in the movie was funny. The comic overdoes it like op pic, then it's just edgy trash taking itself too seriously.
>>
>>147128321
It's gone way too far. Being sincere means you're edgy now.

Okay, but what if I just like laughing at overly self-serious angsty teens and edgelords and their bluster?
>>
Shame and embarrassment only affect the self-centered and who is more narcissistic than queers?
>>
>>147128265
>this copy pasta again

Are you a literal bot? Does your programming only allow you to repeat the same general platitudes over and over again? Are you slowly making your way back to posting Shadow the Hedgehog, Alan Moore, and that Marvel quip image again?

Americans?

making fun of edgy and using it as an insult is gay and thinking it was warranted in any way makes you a fag
>>
>>147128337
>It's gone way too far
not far enough

>Being sincere means you're edgy now.
sincere vs insincere is just another meaningless buzzword for people who just want another reason to be contrarian

meaningless violence was in poor taste in the 90s and it still is today
>>
>>147128355
>Not far enough
Actually it has.
>Buzzword for people want to another reason to be contrarian
You're unironically outing yourself as an idiot if you think that.
>>
>>147128304
It's also common in zoomer circles. Empathyless teenagers and young adults addicted to internet clicks.
>>
>>147128329
Okay, how is this in any way "edgy"? It sounds like any old villain speech.
>>
>stop making fun of meeeee
only children demand to be taken seriously
>>
>>147128424
Actually it's more about indulging in what you think is cool and not caring about what other people think.
>>
>>147128304
If you talk eloquently without Trooncase or take yourself in any way seriously, or just say things like you actually mean it, instead of a detached ironic tone, people will call you edgy.
>>
>>147128441
If you don't care about what others think you don't call attention to it, it's a self-defeating attitude that retarded teenagers have
>>
>>147128503
How are we calling attention to it? What are you even talking about?

Edgy comics did exist and they were childish. Kingdom Come was a comic book criticized the edgy 90s comics written by UK writers.

That said, I love edgy comics. It's essentially people venting about the issues they see in society.

The lack the spine and character to be sincere and have a real orignal thought and stand by it.
Their cowards afraid of being canceled and addicts with no sense of self lusting after that next few minutes of (oft fake and from bots) internet clout.

It's sick and can't be maintained. And we are seeing many hundreds of internet created sociopaths and cultists who don't understand how normal people act or even understand themselves.

This is true. Neckbeards are usually the ones that hate edge the most.
>>
>>147128265
Yeah, it's gone completely overboard. These days, Christcucks are trying to force the idea that criticizing religion is "edgy". The word is losing all meaning, which may actually be appropriate, since nothing is really shocking any more. We've seen it all.

NO. U.
Attacking christianity got stale because of fags that were purposefully going after a socially acceptable target to "punch up" with the least amount of effort possible.
It's "safe edgy." It's the inverse of what OP is talking about because whereas in that case the nuance is lost in critics that just want to handwave media for making them uncomfortable, this garbage pretends to be thoroughly deep and revolutionary because it goes after the biggest target, even though it doesn't say anything.

Pic related, plebbitnigger.

You whipped into submission as you so richly deserve. I don't intend to stop until every religion is dead and buried. Don't worry, though, I still hate Islam more than I hate you.
>>
The thing is, most "edgy" stuff nowadays IS empty shock value. Very rarely does it have context that justifies that kind of approach unless the creator knows what they're doing. You'd realize that most popular mainstay things that have lasted for quite a bit have been controversial to a extent or raised fanbase turbulence.

Posts like this are a good example of why people became oversensitive to calling everything edgy, and consequently why edge grew to have a negative connotation.
The toothless angst for its own sake grew to be seen as a gimmick. It became the same as we view mascot horror today. Outliers can use it right, but when it was the process and result, it got boring.
A lot of people anymore weren't around for people to view mainstream entertainment take this packagable edginess full-swing, but repeated what the internet beforehand was saying.

TCOAAL got massive hate and called edgy even though it has substance.

Meant to say "weren't around when people behind mainstream entertainment took this packageable edginess fullswing and showed how crap it was, but..." but I butchered that through phoneposting

People don't understand that 2000's edge was laughable because it was badly written on top of being gritty. Batman getting Bane'd so he could be replaced by a guy unironically named Azrael was laughable. Metal bands calling themselves after the act of cumming on a cookie and pretending to be taken seriously was laughable. A Sonic the Hedgehog character shooting an ak in a blind rage was laughable, no matter how much nostalgia Sega tries to create for it. "Edgy" became a buzzword because of this and now retarded younger people repeat it for anything that tries to show violence or dark themes no matter the context or quality, because they are indeed retarded.
