Would it have worked?
The Disney theme-park was built by orphans living in underground tunnels and now those same orphans are the Dallas Cowboys.
Pocahontas basically killed the "We're going to make a respectful and dignified historical edutainment park" narrative they were trying to build up when running into all that opposition.
>>147130910I just don't get why they reversed the names like that. The actual Ratcliffe was a pretty standout dude that got shit done, and the actual John Smith was a cunt. I guess they figured kids were too stupid to get past the 'rat' in the name.
It wouldn't have. I like history, but the fact is history doesn't make for a good theme park, and there's absolutely no room for growth. Let's say it is an initial success and you want to think about an expansion. What do you do? WW2land? Great Depressionland? Come on down to see Rustbeltland? The genius of Walt Disney's original Disneyland concept was he took a bunch of cool general concepts - the frontier, the jungle, the future, and fantasy castles - and then brainstormed a bunch of rides that would pair well with those categories. The idiocy of modern Disney is "hurr what if Star Wars land? what if Avatar land? what if MCU land?" and again no room for growth even if the initial concept pans out, which it frequently doesn't.
>>147130960The military airfield land and the Industrial Revolution coaster basically were WW2land and Rustbeltland.
>>147130960Epcot is built on the implication of rustbeltland.
>>147130910wasn't a mall built on the land?
>>147130960>Great Depressionland? Come on down to see Rustbeltland? You could have a Okie-themed darkride taking you from the Dust Bowl and west through to the sunny hell that is 1930s California.
>>147130754No, not because of the original theme, because that would have been replaced over time anyway with random IP lands (outside a general "America" theme of IPs being used) like all the other themed parks Disney hadBut that it would have been an outdoor park not too far from Florida that also could only operate seasonally, and it would get crowds but it would both reduce WDW's overall crowds but also would be harder for Disney to keep around if they had to shut it almost entirely for 3 months (or if they had to build a large part indoors which would have been impractical at the time)
>>147130960>WW2land?The big icon is a fullscale replica of the camps FDR sent the Japanese to
>>147132764I think the reduced months of operation is the biggest factor. Plus it just sounds like several massive historic cosplay towns like Williamsburg all crowded together.
>>147133497Well that was basically the goal. Williamsburg but with more animatronics and a 3D movie where Ellis Island immigration was recreated with Muppets
>>147130754A Disneyworld park that closes from November to April will not be nearly as successful. Also an America themed park would not get all that international business the Florida parks get all year long. >>147130910>>147130960This but also at the same time it would be nothing but purely hated by all the History fans who only like state parks and battlefiields etc. Disney already gets a pretty bad reputation for being 100% fake and sterile bullshit by a lot of vacationers who hate all the fake stuff. With the term Disney being more of a slur to insult cheap, poorly thought out imitations made for dumb vacationing families. Like al those fake German alpine village tourist towns in the US, people hate that fake imitation village crap and constantly call them Disney towns. An actual disney built history park would be loathed and avoided by anyone with a passing interest in history.
>>147130754Even if they did, by 2024 it would be overhauled to be themed after movies/tv series. Totally dropping the entire original premise.
