Besides both being capeshit, how are DC and Marvel settings different from each other?
How do they differ by themes they explore, by characters or by "vibes" they give off?
>>

Dc seems to like it's magic more than Marvel, and it's also more meta on an actual meta level, it often acknowledges it's characters being actual comic characters in it more. Even in mainline universe sometimes.

Furthermore it's world definitely differs between incarnation to incarnation, considering DC has had multiple reboots, Marvel meanwhile gets by on a sliding timeline and numerous retcons to keep it's world together, it's not set in stone but DC is able to use a photoshop approach to it's world while Marvel can wonderglue and ductape it together (in my opinion)

Generally it appears what a relatively present (but not always) theme in DC is it's heroes being larger than life and godlike, particularly in the 90s and 2000s with Morrison's JLA and that whole 5th world shit Marvel characters also often get godlike powers for some reason and it actually does have gods on it's team roster but i always got the feeling that they want their characters to seem more "normal" 10% more scientific as they say.

It appears that a lot more Marvel characters are willing to kill compared to DC characters, desu only Batman and a lot of his family seems to actually have super hard no-kill rule, because as far as i've read guys like Hawkman, the lanterns, etc. Are willing to kill or at least let a few guys die if they are desperate enough or their enemies are powerful enough (Like when Green Arrow merced Prometheus).

Theres more but im thinking

>more scientific
Yeah I would say Marvel is more science-y both in number of Supergenius characters, sci-fi themes and general space stuff
I don't read comics much but I get the impression that Marvel world has more interactions with alien civilizations and space exploration meanwhile DC universe seems to be more earthbound and then they explore other worlds it's usually some sort of magical parrarel world kind of ideal or some cosmic shit

One is nostalgic for DC books, the other is nostalgic for Marvel books.

>How do they differ by themes they explore, by characters or by "vibes" they give off?
Marvel is more grounded. Character are more realistic, the tone is a bit darker, and they're more technology-oriented (even magic is just super-technology).

One has more cucks.
Other has more trannies.

Mark Waid stated the fundamental difference between Marvel and DC is that the former's setting was built up by the same people from similar backgrounds all intended to be one universe that built itself off from there while the latter is a clusterfuck of acquisitions with some additions fitting in like a square peg in a round hole

Themes?
Well I think the major differences is that the world of DC is usually more aspirational, with heroes who the reader is expected to want to be more like, rather than Marvel which uses their roster of characters to explore real world problems with a more 'relatable' angle.

Then also Marvel has a world which isn't sold on the idea of Superheroes, it's a frequent plot point in their books how governments are concerned by groups like the Avengers, and the X-Men are a big racism allegory.

(to be cont, bump)

(cont) I realized the thread was dying to I needed to post quickly.

To continue, DC has a world which is almost always on board with the heroes. The police work with Batman despite him being a vigilante, Superman is helped by governments of the world instead of in conflict with them. Unless the presidency is held by Lex Luthor, which it has been numerous times in DC comics.

I'd dare to say DC seems to be more optimistic. The heroes usually get happy endings, love interests aren't usually killed off.
I wonder how much of this is just Superman's influence, since he is this character of such relenting optimism and usually depicted as such.

It's kinda interesting, even though Superman and Supergirl are obviously from Krypton, and then there's Martian Manhunter who is a literal Martian, and the Green Lantern Core is mainly consisted of various aliens, it's never really made a big deal.

Like you don't ever realize that the DC world is one where aliens are confirmed real when you are reading a Batman book.
It's kinda glossed over.
>>
How does DC has so much critically acclaimed runs and collected editions? Majority of the best superhero comics or graphic novels lists consist of DC stuff.

One difference that I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet is how Marvel is significantly more based around teams rather than individual heroes, which is more the forte of DC.
While DC has popular teams, specifically the Justice League, most readers will seek out a dedicated Superman story or Batman story or Wonder Woman book, or The Flash/Green Lantern/Booster Gold or whatever.

Meanwhile, with the very important exception of Spiderman, Marvel focuses more on the Avengers, the Fantastic 4, The X-Men, or smaller teams like The Great Lake Avengers, or the Guardians of the Galaxy.
I know a lot of the Avengers also have popular, dedicated books, but in general this is still a significant difference.

I loved Marvel up until the 00's when they became complete assholes.

there are no megadeth songs about dc characters
>>
There is NO difference.
all comes down to the PLOT you want to see. what team you want to see do stuff.

DC is a classy old New York City law firm. Marvel is a hip New York City advertising agency.

DC is a big bank. Marvel is the neighborhood savings and loan.

DC is Bing Crosby. Marvel is Frank Sinatra.

DC is Elvis. Marvel is the Beatles.

DC is Michael Jackson. Marvel is Prince.

DC is the New York Yankees. Marvel is the Brooklyn Dodgers.

DC is 1940s Disney cartoons. Marvel is 1940s Warner Bros. cartoons.

Paradoxically, DC is the X-Men. Marvel is the Doom Patrol.

For one thing, Marvel is meant to be a representation of a real place that just has slightly different physics than our world, while DC is, within it's own lore, canonically a collection of fictional ideas and concepts that are being animated by the readers.

Marvel is more sci-fi and down to earth, you will see the heroes as humans no matter how powerfull they are, their problems, their wants and needs
Marvel has better team books and better runs in general
right now you can pick like 5 or 8 marvel books worth a damn, dc doesn't haver 4.

DC has a lot of good stories that work for a recopilation format or an animated adaptation,
marvel has overall better runs
