Since Neil Gaiman has found himself in some extremely hot water, I thought it'd be appropriate to look back on his /co/ career by storytiming what's probably the best thing he ever did for DC Comics. This is the Deluxe Edition of Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? released in 2020, collecting the original story published in Batman #686 and Detective Comics #853 as well as some behind the scenes extras and a few other Gaiman Batman stories. Since there's no chance his work is going to get republished again for the forseeable future, no time like the present to finally read it.
As always, bump if you're reading.
>>147136286I didn't like it, especially the art.
Foreward by the man himself.
>the best thing he ever did for DC Comicsit's not even the best thing he wrote for Batman
>>147136336That's here, too, don't worry.
Part 1 originally published in Batman #686 (April 2009)
>>147136304Andy kubert was the best in the 90s but in the long run Adam Kubert is the best of the two brothers when it comes to art and drawing.
>>147136286What did ever happen to the caped crusader? he took a shower at gaimans house and when the finger went in his butt he was so violated he ran home naked and never left the cave again
>>147136766ah, yesthe page
>>147136724>well donewith ketchup
>>147136437Imagine the smell
Part 2 originally published in Detective Comics #853 (April 2009).

>>147136486Hell yeah, nice car Two-Face
Can you do an absolute Batman storytime, issue 3?
>>147136935I mean, it doesn't fit the theme but I guess I could when this is over.
The end.
Now for the extras, starting with some alternative covers.
Sketches by Andy Kubert.
Accidentally posted the wrong page. Everything's in order now.
This story originally published in Batman: Black and White #2 (July 1996)
This story originally published in Secret Origins #36 (January 1989).
This last part originally published in Secret Origins Special (October 1989).
In the original issue this page is followed by a story by Alan Grant where the Penguin kidnaps a criminal who used to bully him as a kid and monologues about his sad backstory. But this volume only has Neil Gaiman stories so it's skipped.
After this page would follow a really good story by Mark Verheiden about a criminal who wants vengeance on Two-Face for putting him in prison when he was DA and kidnapping his ex-wife. But it's a not a Gaiman story so who cares.
Okay, that's the end of it. How did you like these stories? Which one's your favorite? Does knowing about Gaiman's crimes change the way you see his work? Is it a good idea to separate art from the artist?
Now to post Absolute Batman #3 for the anon who wanted it.
alright
>>147137493I love the black and white series, definitely some of my favorite batman.

None of these are very good. Neil was such a mediocre writer.
