The original had some built-in gimmicks at the start of production that payed off later. So how about no trinity, instead they team up with one of them once or twice a season. Every Season someone joins and someone dies or quits. For example Ollie joins in the middle of season 1 and Barry sacrifices himself at the end.

The writers had no idea how to balance the cast of superheroes for the first two seasons, to they were constantly getting beaten down, and Superman in particular was nerfed so badly it was comical. Unlimited got better, but the plots weren't all that good. It's among the most nihilistic of children's cartoons.
