I think that when a character inherits or steals a mantle and there is no other contender to dispute their status they qualify as the hero.The exploration of legacy is a great way to evolve and develop stories impossible for the original, and that's fine. Putting an original on the pedestal enables sliding timescales and reboots out the wazoo and that sucks.Something like The numerous Green Lanterns are a fantastic demonstration of the value in letting a new face take over for some time.

I think all the racially charged undertones of Falcon's story is so funny in context of the MCU because only in those crappy Disney+ shows did people miraculously become racist but before then nobody ever commented on Falcon, Nick Fury, or T'Chala's race.
