Yesterday I story timed Mars Attacks, a classic and influential Pulp Sci Fi card/comic set >>147129268Now i'm doing Dinosaurs Attack which along with Jurassic Park helped kick off the Dinosaur craze of the 90s. Tomorrow I will be storytiming the Dinosaurs Attack and Mars Attack cross over.
>we almost got a movie of this>Burton didn't wanna rip off Jurassic ParkSigh...
>>147142809The "But we can't compete with Jurassic Park" mindset really killed the dinosaur movie genre.
>>147142760I collected so many of these.
>>147142968I hope your mom didn't throw them out
>>147143044>Despite growing casualties, the President had urged the nation to remain calm and "not make a bad situation worse."How would people make it worse? They are being mauled by big animals.
>>147142809Really? I never knew about this. A Dinosaurs Attack movie would have been great.
>>147143125>>147143152Is this supposed to be bad?
>>147143284No. The president wasn't taking the dinosaur threat seriously enough.
>>147143185GET FUCKED
>>147143475>>147143497these guys seem less dangerous
>>147143284It will be in 4 days
>>147143679mhhh acthktually these werent dinosaurs
I like how the caption format changes every now and then to keep it a little more immersive.
>>147143850same, >>147143268 and >>147143377 are my favourite examples
>>147144272>Pepe and Wojak
Average/co/ poster gets what they deserve
lol freak thinks comic books should be more than funny books
>>147142809Tim Burton is a hack that would've butchered the hell out of a Dinosaurs Attack movie.
Bump, this is my favorite/co/ tradition
>>147144461So the biggest threats to teleport dinosaurs so far have been little girls and grandmas with guns.
>>147145038Don't forget the wrestlers.
>>147145054Super dino satan! We should have known
>>147144657It's very funny that Spiegelman co-created this
>>147145054It's funny that this card series seems to take a lot out of creationist paleontology
>>147145250F
This seems to be playing on the gore more than Mars Attack did, even if the original was pretty gory.
and that's the end of the story. going to post the stickers
>>147142760Too bad Tim Burton didn't get to make this movie. Would have been cool if he did it in stop motion animation
>>147145298That looks a lot like the artists wife or sister was standing for a reference photo for the artist.
>>147142760This one is more fucked up that Mars Attack.
>>147144820This one freaked me out.
>>147143017They’re not worth much, anyway. >>147143715>>147143715STFU nerd.
Surprisingly Mars Attacks seems to have gotten more attention. I figured the dino one from the late 80s would have more Nostalgia
>>147143015bump for "we used to just show kids getting eaten alive."
>>147145572Shocks me every time i see it, amazing Some kid went to school with this sticker in his lunchbox
Sharing this again because I like it and it's not like we're going to have a Dinosaurs Attack thread again for yearshttps://youtu.be/fwS6WsPCuYY?si=7vXP5YDms4MwIeV3
>>147146334On the weekend assuming this thread isn't up I will make another thread to storytime the cross over sequel.
>>147145518>>147145545The truth about brontosaurus is that brontosaurus isn't a recognized name anymore. It's officially apatosaurus since that is actually the first naming upon discovery, not the marketed name.
>>147146410Nice. There's also the IDW comic.
>>147142760Mm yes, very nice
>>147142760The dino craze was a thing since the 80sLand Before Time etc when special effects post Star Wars were improving leaps and bounds above the 70s
>>147143071Excellent use, though incorrect, of the thagomizer.>>147143152>R senator jokes about a national tragedyTale as old as time.>>147143185Whoever was on this and Mars Attacks had no appreciation for pooches.
>>147144366>>147144391>Rogers from Brooklynn>brother named EvanGood names.
>>147143071They don't make them like this anymore sadly.
Got a link where anon can download this set of cards? I like the art and want to archive it for later.
>>147147618https://www.flickr.com/photos/nerdcoreblog/albums/72157622577125417/Download as zip
>>147147856Thanks anon, you're a dinoking
>>147144790Man, if only the Army had Sergeant Slaughter they’d be fine.
>>147142760I love this. Still hurts I lost my set.
>>147143497kek
>>147144657kek
>>147144820>>147144837I like body horror like this. Being fused to a dinosaur just by standing on the wrong spot is a scary way to die.
>>147144858>>147144890I like the reference to Godzilla. It's unfortunate they legally cannot say the name Godzilla.
>>147144938>The Soviets nuked the dinosaurs>It "proved disastrous!"The dinosaurs can survive nukes?
>Boys will never have it this good again
>>147143679I'm never going to get over how, A. This is like something out of a cartoon where the little fish gets eaten by the big fish, then the big fish is eaten by a bigger fish and B. That sharks snoot is bend down. Looks like a muppet and I'm laughing.
>>147144366Kids getting revenge. Get fucked you scalie bastard.
>>147144820One of the least gory but in the contending for the most fucked up.
>>147145250F you glorious bastard. Humanity will never know what you sacrifices for us.
>>147149349Nukes exploded in their own silos, I would imagine.
This was really stupid. Loved it.
>>147142760Thanks for doing this, these are gold
>>147149807>There’s always a bigger fish.Queer-Gone Gin
>>147144674This
>>147142760Bump for literally the coolest shit ever.
>>147150430
>>147149953It would still kill the dinosaurs.
You got more of these pulpy storytimes? This and the Mars Attacks thread got me in the mood
>>147153777If you are looking for pulpy maybe you will enjoy the weekly Vampirella threads.
>>147153777I recommend The Mercenary. You can find a storytime of it in the archives.
>>147145322Most if not all of the humans pictured are Topps employees.
I'm a big trading card collector, so I'm really glad you storytimed these. The creator of the set, Gary Gerani, was a Topps employee from the 70s until very recently, working on Star Wars sets until some time this decade. He has a set of memoirs in progress detailing his experiences at the company. The latest one is a full history of the Dinosaurs Attacks set, including a breakdown of every single card. I'd share more but it's 11 PM here and I have work tomorrow. Here's an interview with him that you might find interestinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCpug3mRMm4
poor animals :(they did nothing wrong
>>147153946That's pretty cool
>>147154097They shouldn't have been at the bottom of the food chain
>>147154097or did they
>>147154097But they attacked. It's right there in the title.
>>147154097They’re evil, didn’t you read the dino-Satan card?
>>147143679Oh damn, Ogra
>>147143185>cats ?>who the fuck care about cats ?
Bump!
>>147145121brutal
>>147145305Thanks
>>147145054I wasn't expecting this.
>>147145250>When you nut but she still sucking
>>147144461>>147144366Jurassic Park if Americans locked the fuck in
>>147146334I like that even as a fan of them he can't quite believe how gnarly some of them are. It is crazy that it ends with a real guy in flames.
>>147159676kek
>>147159705>Jurassic *World
>>147144415Damn
Bump
>>147156760I think anon was referring to the zoo animals. >>147144545
>>147143350>>147143377awesome
>>147164179Well refer to my original answer, dinosaurs are evil, EEEVILLLL.https://youtu.be/avrO5Bdmdkk?feature=shared
bump
>>147142760Neat I mean Meat
>>147142875This is the plot of halflife
>>147142856Which is super stupid. With that way of thinking nothing would get made.>Playstation>"But we can't compete with Nintendo" >Marvel>"But we can't compete with DC">Vince>"But we can't compete with WCW"
>>147144635ART SPIEGELMAN???!!!
>>147165935Topps employee at the time
>>147143268neat
>>147142856More people should have followed Roger Corman's example.
this aint no comic
>>147144837>Sam! you know what to do!...
>>147145298bronto-burgers for everybody!
Dinosaurs Attack >>>>> Mars AttacksEverything except the iconic design of the martians blows the latter out of the water. >more carnage and inventive scenarios>back of the cards, which in Mars remains the same format every time, is sometimes even better than the card itself>barely any filler with the killer bugs, which took up a chunk of the Martian's set
>>147144820horrifying
>>147149337I think that it's also a reference to Godzilla in this and in Mars Attacks where they had cards involving a giant monster walking into power cables, since that's been done to Godzilla in a few movies as an attempt to stop him.
>>147165850I don't remember there being a time travel angle to it.
>>147168899I will say, Dino Satan alone is 100x more metal as a concept than martians.
>>147171389Imagine if each animal family has their own God or Satan
>>147172237The god for bugs would be horrifying.
>>147171201Change the past for another dimension and big head alien for dino satan
>>147173425Mothman?
>>147168899It was the magnum opus of an OG fanboy. Gary Gerani wrote for fanzines in the 70s and 80s, and collected 35mm reels of b-movies - he was a "lost media" guy when it fucking MEANT something.
>>147173425Starship Troopers did a god bug.
>>147142760Bump
>>147143839Reptar?
