People years from now are going to look back and ask why the fuck this brand was pushed so much. Three movies. A $200 million dollar video game. An anime. Live action HBO spin off. Animated HBO spin off. Barely any of which were notably successful. Its biggest accomplishment was a bunch of white girls dressed as Harley Quinn for Halloween in 2016.This is going to be such a bizarre blip on the radar of /co/ media.
>>147143747>Suicide Squad came out 9 years agodude what the fuck
Ironically the best Suicide Squad media we've ever gotten outside of the comics didn't even call them that.
>>147143747It's because DC was getting DEI brownie points for pushing Harley.
The first movie was DC’s answer to Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies which is why he directed the sequel and wrote Creature Commandos.Birds of Prey exists because Harley was the only successful part of the movie.I can’t explain the isekai anime or the game though.
>>147143747"THREE movies"??
>>147143747I liked Suicide Squad as a comic but the problem wasn't the franchise, it was that Warner Brothers has no creative talent.
>>147143747It’s solid team gimmick. There’s no mystery to it.>But I don’t like it!So fucking what, weirdo.
>>147143747The first movie made a billion off the strength of its marketing alone and singlehandedly put Harley Quinn on the B-list of modern pop culture. The idea behind it ("a comic book Dirty Dozen/Ocean's Eleven with big name stars as silly characters!") appeals to corporate execs looking for a high-concept hook, which is why they kept pushing it.The central issue is all down to the fact that the 2016 film made a billion, since that means an equivalent number of people saw the film and saw how fucking terrible it was. That's why nobody cared about Gunn's reboot/sequel or the video game. A great chunk of the public audience has already been turned off of the concept.

>Suicide Squad >The Suicide Squad What's the other movie? I know there's some animated movies.
>>147144645>>147144398he must be counting the harley quinn movie or the animated SS
>>147144669Is the live action show Suicide Squad Peacemaker then?
>>147144532Suicide Squad (2016) didn’t make a billion, but your point is true. That piece of shit is barely a movie.
>>147144707I thought it did, but I was just going off the top of my head. Wikipedia says it made $749.2 million and the 10th highest-grossing movie that year. So the point still stands — it was incredibly profitable in spite of how poor and messy the film itself was, almost all due to the initial hype alone.
>>147143747DC/WB bought into the hype that they could be the edgy alternative to Marvel, and thus pushed this
>>147144707>>147144782It was cited as a big success as it was because it made nearly a billion without a Chinese release when doing well in China was pretty much considered essential for popcorn blockbusters
