doesn't it feel strange for the Dean to interact so much with the two protagonists? back when i was in the uni the dean was more of a politician than an actual teacher, i've never seen it and he only met students doing press conferences. to think that the big honcho himself would lower himself and personally ask you questions during an exam seems almost ridiculous.

Each department of a college has a dean, and they're very often professors themselves, with their own class. Hollywood often conflates a dean with a school's president, who is what you described; a largely unseen bureaucrat.
