I made the mistake of reading the comments on that video. Why the fuck do so many cartoon autist feel the need to name the production companies/original networks when the say "I hope they add (such and such cartoon)!" What is the point in that? Thanks for pointing out the Maya & Miguel cartoon you were talking about was "produced By Scholastic Entertainment & Aired On PBS From 2004 To 2007"... because I was going to fucking confuse it with another show called Maya & Miguel...

Having his shorts on MeTV is the single good thing they’ve done with him to promote him in decades, at least since the end of the 90s show.
When Oswald was basically nonexistent as a Woody character for decades then becomes more prominently popular in the US than Woody when Disney acquires him just because they put him in a video game and little else, that shows you how badly handled Universal has done their mascot the last several decades
>>
call me when they get the 80s alvin and the chipmunks or muppet babies
>>
>>147149959
>80s alvin and the chipmunks
Probably too expensive for music licensing
>muppet babies
The head guy at MeTV Toons said Disney has pretty much said no to everything they've asked for. That, and OG Muppet Babies is probably too much of a licensing headache considering all the legal bullshit that came with it.
>>
>>147150133
>The head guy at MeTV Toons said Disney has pretty much said no to everything they've asked for.

That doesn't surprise me.
Still with more Disney stuff going public domain I wonder if they can air those 1928-1930s cartoons in one of those shows where they show an assortment of cartoons

>Still with more Disney stuff going public domain I wonder if they can air those 1928-1930s cartoons in one of those shows where they show an assortment of cartoons
That's literally what he said. As of right now, the only way they're going to get Disney stuff on there is what's going into the public domain, and they're going to have a show like Cartoon Network's old Toon Heads that just vintage oddities and PD stuff.
>>
>>147150203
Oh good. It felt like an obvious workaround
>>
>>147148915
This was 1989 so I could see why they'd think Flintstones and Woody would last longer than the TMNT.

Flintstones in particular was still having new specials in the 80s and 90s and their show was still being rerun at that point

Woody's show somehow kept getting revived each decade since the 50s and he has cartoons as far back as the 40s

I would've thought whoever did this ad/approved it probably thought TMNT was gonna end up like Transformers, GI Joe, MOTU where they get two or three seasons... But Dennis the Menace only had two seasons of cartoons by the time of this ad. Were they just taking the comic strip's longevity into account instead?
>>
>>147150133
>The head guy at MeTV Toons said Disney has pretty much said no to everything they've asked for.
thats a damn shame. its not like old reruns of talespin or bonkers are bringing eyeballs to their streaming service, and its not like metv is asking for exclusive rights. why turn down free money?
>>
>>147149282
That's probably because Woody was still getting theatrical shorts until the early 70s. I think the only other theatrical cartoon that lasted longer was Pink Panther.
>>
>>147150528
I guess Iger is all-in on streaming probably
>>
>>147150528
Disney does not like their stuff to stray away from home.
>>
Why is he so excited to see reruns of a cartoon he's always had access to on the internet? All TMNT is good for these days is tying up/gagging April and crossing over with Ghostbusters.
>>
>>147150518
Technically, only the first three seasons of TMNT were syndicated and those stopped airing once Power Rangers became the new superheroes of the 90s, so they weren't entirely wrong about it being a fad that wouldn't last. They were just wrong in thinking musty old relics like those shows would last forever.
>>
>>147150181
The could air any Disney short from 1921 to 1929, which covers early Mickey, early Silly Symphonies, all of Oswald, all of Alice Comedies. This isn't enough content for a block just yet. Over the next half decade there will be more than enough content to make a full block.
The issue then becomes:
>How to advertise this without using Disney name or making it seem like Disney sponsored it, but otherwise kinda give people the hint it's a block of Disney shorts
>Get past any silent agreement for media companies to not use each other's public domain content. Like yes, they can have a block of this, but Disney might then decide they are uploading Looney Tunes shorts on Disney+ and it'll start going from there
>>
>>147150782
metv isnt owned by warner-discovery, it's owned by the weigel broadcasting company
disney has no way to get retribution on weigel seeing as disney doesnt license any content to weigel
>>
>>147148958

>>How to advertise this without using Disney name or making it seem like Disney sponsored it, but otherwise kinda give people the hint it's a block of Disney shorts

They already do have a show on MeTV that airs a random assortment of cartoons, they could just air it there without saying "THIS IS A DISNEY SHOW" or somethign like that

>Circuses Come And Circuses Go, But We Will Go On Forever
>Over the past year, 28 Indie pilots have released, but only 3 are discussed on /co/. So it is not unusual to see short-term discussion for long-term passion projects. Which is why MeTV Toons features evergreen shows like Woody Woodpecker, The Flintstones, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. All of which receive new installments to this day. So while the circus performs this season, will it be back for the next?
>MeTV Toons (featuring Woody, Fred, and Leo)

>Technically, only the first three seasons of TMNT were syndicated and those stopped airing once Power Rangers became the new superheroes of the 90s, so they weren't entirely wrong about it being a fad that wouldn't last.

They stopped airing those but CBS still kept the cartoon going for longer than expected. I think it also helped that the TMNT had a really good first film so that kept the momentum going for a little longer.

>They were just wrong in thinking musty old relics like those shows would last forever.

I don't think it would've been that impossible to keep Woody and Flintstones going. Universal badly dropped the ball with their cartoon franchises and WB didn't know what to do with most of the H-B characters (except Scooby-Doo and a few) for a long time after they merged with Turner

I imagine it's a combination of "was included in the syndication package WBD gave them" and "it might be a relatively recent series but it's part of a classic franchise"

notably they have yet to air anything made past the mid 90's that isn't part of a classic franchise, though that'll change whenever they get around to airing Xiaolin Showdown which we know is part of one of their WBD syndication packages since it was listed in one of the early announcements, though even that show is over 20 years old now and thus I'd argue more than fair game for MeTV Toons

www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwF-ZCyBsFE
>>
>>147153806
It was a movie that was rushed out of production after stalling for years. I don't think they locked in sequels and cartoons because they were so dead certain this was the winner, but because they had nothing else for the TMNT IP for the immediate future. They started everything too late and burned too many bridges. They've been floating ideas for another live action reboot movie ever since the Michael Bay movies stopped getting made and haven't gotten anywhere with that. If The Last Ronin didn't blow up the way it did, they would have been left with nothing and having to set up yet another reboot within the same period that they were still pretending that Mutant Mayhem was going to be a long-term entry for the turtles.

You're a fucking delusional retard, holy hell. Western cartoons anally dominate-rape tranime into the fucking dirt and it's not even funny. Western cartoons simply moved their primary format from shows, to movies. And now you have "infantile junk" like Boss Baby, which has grossed more than any anime ever released in the history of animation, and that's just a typical monthly release from the West.

The closest the East even remotely gets to achieving Western numbers is with Chinese animation like Ne Zha, and even with China's 1.4 BILLION people, they can't even fucking get enough asses in seats to beat the US domestically, let alone internationally. The closest Japan gets is when they out-source their world-wide successful properties like Super Mario Bros to the West, and only then do they achieve success, because Japan and the East in general, lets face it, are dogshit storytellers, who use a very awkward and stilted animation style that was developed out of a need to save money, as their primary art style for 95% of anime. You can have all the edgy 13-year-old-cool, violent, gory, sexy animation you like, but if it doesn't stand up to scrutiny in terms of telling a cogent story, and the majority of the animation is low framerate with mouthflaps, nobody fucking cares. That's why Pokemon, the largest grossing media empire ever, can't even achieve fucking Brother Bear numbers in theaters, BROTHER BEAR, a movie that despite doing well financially, grossing twice that of Pokemon the Movie, it was considered an embarrassing disappointment financially for Disney and signaled the end of 2D animation for them. That's how successful Western animation is. You have a movie that grossed more than 99% of all anime ever made, and it was still disappointing.

The East really needs to get its shit together if it wants to compete, and dump the infantile sex appeal and preteen appeal to absurd levels of violence if it wants to look legitimate.

>You're not Japanese. Stop it. It's pathetic.
Fuck off autist. It's called a joke.

>No shit. Oh, sorry, I didn't realize there were limitations when you said "ANIMATION".
That's because you lack reading comprehension and can't understand basic context. No wonder you sound like a retard. Butting in to reply to conversations you don't understand. Sit the fuck down and be quiet retard-kun.

Slightly off-topic, but I'm glad Andre Black Nerd did the promo. Back in the day, TMNT 2012 kept moving timeslots, and the only way people knew a new episode is out is when Andre did an episode review.

Nick really trying to make money off this like it's the syndication days.

That's a good thing, I miss the days they had to make at least 65 episodes of a cartoon so they could syndicate it, now most shows only last 30 or less episodes unless they're a smash hit
something similar happened to anime since in the 80s they had to at least make 40 to 50 episodes so they could make their money back with reruns, but nowadays they only do 12 or 13 episodes per season so they can sell them on streaming

Show was ok but it was a warning sign that Rankin-Bass was fast approaching the twilight

their little ad feels more ironic and aged when they had to air DBZ and Sailor Moon

and when Bart wasn't enough, 2 stoners created Cartman

Should the series in that show have crossed over? Like The Tigersharks meeting Karate Kat?

This thread has taken a turn. How did we go from the TMNT 1987 on MeTV to ponies to East vs West, to outsourcing to rock music? And fuck what Dee Snider says, he is one to talk since he has done what those other bands did, especially in 2016, overcompensating much?

What he did in 2016 had good intentions

Anon that transition happened back in the 90s as a result of the anime industry cutting back on costs as Japan's economy started to flag. Most anime were 1 or 2 seasons long starting in that era, it predates streaming by two decades.

And then

>And fuck what Dee Snider says, he is one to talk since he has done what those other bands did, especially in 2016, overcompensating much?

Uh...hello?

>you lack reading comprehension
And you lack an argument.

>Butting in to reply to conversations you don't understand. Sit the fuck down and be quiet retard-kun.
That would be you. "Retard-kun".
