So now that Slott is off to DC and it's likely the SB solo is dead (with him just making appearances in ASM and New Champions) was anything worthwhile from his creation?

>>147148930If being an industry plant is about someone who gets famous because of who they know instead of ability, shouldn't have of these not be one? The order of operations is backwards so they mimic something popular instead of being actually connected.

Bailey has better rogues than Miles.
>>147148650Not really no. His gimmick got tiresome fairly quickly. I don't expect the majority of the 3rd gen heroes to have much staying power though. Bailey will at least have exposure due to ASM. Probably not much beyond it. Just like superior it feels like a waste of time which could have been better spent elevating another Spider with more potential.
>>147149003>>147148967>An 'industry plant' is largely accepted to mean an artist who presents themselves as being independent and doing things on their own terms, but secretly has the industry backing and money to fund them and to artificially shape such a narrative. The term doesn't work for any of these things, retard. The correct term (using internet speak) would be 'forced characters'. Characters created purely to try and get attention and sales and then kept in the limelight despite lack of popularity (that has been gained naturally). Industry Plant would only work here if it was some independent hero published by an independent or by themselves when in reality Marvel or DC is backing them with money and exposure. If Punchline was just knock-off Harley made by TotallyNotADCBrand publisher and then suddenly 5 years after her creation she is warped into DC proper, that'd be an Industry Plant.

>>147148650Nobody can ever give a straightforward answer as to why Bailey is a “industry plant”
Miles Morales has been the Cool New Thing™ for over a decade now, closing in on 15 years. He's had a MASSIVE push from Marvel, leading in his own movie less than 7 years after his creation. And yet:>His comics don't sell more than Peter's>His movies don't sell more tickets than Peter's>His games don't sell more copies than Peter's>He doesn't move more toys and merch than PeterHe's not just as much Spider-Man as Peter. He never will be. He's had fourteen years to fill that role and he just hasn't. He's nowhere near as popular except with black comic nerds (and maybe white cuck weirdos). He's never going to be the successor, not when Peter still brings in so much more money. They can give him Peter's villains, Peter's love interests, have Peter himself hyping him up. They can give him every other superpower in the book. None of it helps the character. His movies are glazed as masterpieces, yet they grossed less at the box office than The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - and that's not even taking inflation into account. ASM has had its worst run in years, absolute dogshit hated by everyone, and it STILL outsells Miles' book.Black Spider-Man is just another derivative. He's never been anything more than that.
>>147149578Because he's white.

Industry plants refer to creators who are artificially popular due to corporate push.A fictional character being pushed in spite of low popularity is a Poochie.

>>147149003So Miles?

>>147150036He's everything Marvel wanted Miles to be except black
>>147148675Why do people think so? Miles isn't that different from John Stewart, the rotating door of Robins, or Scott Lang. If Terry McGinnis was used more and more until he gradually became popular, would people say he's an industry plant, too?

>>147150176Bendis isn't even that. His ideas are just to kick down characters/teams and replace them with his versions that he can collect back end money on.
>>147148650His only glimmer of hope is if Marvel finds someone to pick up the title once Slott leaves, or if there's even enough interest in the character to find a person to write it. Even with the appearances in ASM and the team book, that's not going to boost his presence at all. Look at what happened to Ms. Marvel when she lost her solo, and Ms. Marvel has actual, VOCAL, fans.
>>147148675Seems like less of a plant and more of a co-opted character that easily fits the agenda they're pushing. He's a fine character on his own, but shoehorning him as the coolest Spider-Man who's hip with the kids and always right is fucking retarded. >>147149593Yeah. It's Spider-Man. Spider-Man in red and blue IS Marvel. He's their number one guy and has been for decades. Apparently for Marvel Vs Capcom, Marvel's first demand was to include Spider-Man, the Hulk, Captain America and Wolverine as their core four as they were the faces of Marvel. No replacement Spidey is over taking Peter Parker in pop culture just as no Hulk but Bruce Banner sticks, no Wolverine but Logan gets over and no Cap but Steve Rogers is acceptable. The only successful legacy characters are the ones of characters who weren't that popular. >>147148743This is true. Everything else aside, an industry plant is pushed because the executives want them to be popular not because of fan demand.

>>147152264It's basically Nepotism. An insult in the Music Industry to an artist who gains fame through connections, money, or family rather than talent/genuine interest. You could argue Spider-boy with the fact of him dropping in out of nowhere, immediately getting announced his own solo with over 30 something variant covers plus an announcement of a marvel legends figure within like 3 months of that singular issue. For comparison, Gwen also debut as a side story in the Spiderverse before gaining her own solo. That was like over half a year later, and it was after a trial run of her on a team book Web Warriors which had Mayday as it's protagonist. She stole the show so hard she was given a book. Spider-boy was essentially akin to a crypto currency rug pull. Speculative hype but with no real basis in reality. The argument you'd see from like Dan Slott or something is "That 1st issue REALLY resonated with people, We just capitalized on their demand!" when anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together could understand the turn around is way too quick without prep work. It's likely Spider-boy was Dan Slott 'big ask' and he had enough clout / previous success behind him to go along with it. Right now though I don't see any writers jumping up to take his place or to carry the 'torch' of Spider-boy in any capacity once he leaves. Not in a solo capacity.

>>147154726Terry explicitly comes from the same world as the one BTAS takes place in, Beyond just takes place at the very end of the DCAU, it's not an alternate future to that world, it's just the future of that world.

>>147154917>Shameik wonbait used to be believable
>>147154907And the DCAU is an alternate Batman story altogether. If Terry suddenly showed up in the mainline comics and started taking over people would very quickly start to hate him

>>147153569>X-Ray VisionWhich would make more sense for RADIOACTIVE spider powers but Miles got his ability from the serum/genetic ultimate Oscorp one

>>147154489>For comparison, Gwen also debut as a side story in the Spiderverse before gaining her own solo.Gwen was literally introduced with the line>Your new favorite. They didn't even give anyone a chance to respond in any direction.
>>147154994The DCAU was the main canon for DC cartoons back then, the average viewer doesn't think of BTAS Batman as an alternate Batman, they think of him as just Batman. The problem is when they try to replace the hero in their prime, eventually Bruce will either die or retire, Terry only steps into the game long after Bruce calls it quits, similarly Miguel and Mayday don't cramp Peter's style because by the time they're in full swing, Peter has already spun his last web.
>>147155237That doesn't matter. The point is that Batman Beyond was its own thing that never encroached on any of Bruce's things. It was a story set in the future, disconnecting it from the main Batman story. The same is true of both Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Girl
>>147149003So Mufasa?
>>147155274>its own thing that never encroached on any of Bruce's thingsBruce's entire thing is being Batman until he can't, when he can't be Batman anymore, Terry becomes Batman, not an alternate Batman, the Batman of the future, he was designed to be Bruce's successor, so he is, that's Terry on a fundamental level, Batman.>disconnecting itBeyond is not separate from Bruce's story, it's the end of Bruce's story, but it's not the end of Batman.

>>147150136The Robin mantle, like other kid sidekicks, is a training role before said person gets a role of their own; Terry was approached by a retired Batman who was desperate for a successor in an entirely new setting and new enemies.Meanwhile, Miles appeared out of fucking nowhere and took the Spider-Man mantle when having no connection to it: just like iron heart, and went around the city, fighting Peter's roster while OG Spider-Man was still alive and working. And, while Bailey too appeared out of nowhere, he is his own thing and has enemies of his own; even if they are kid versions of others.Of course, I'm not going to ignore his /ss/ harem appeal. You can add Conner Kent to the list.
>>147162054>static tucked in the backgroundlmao
>>147162054Why does Miles get new blue electricity powers in the game, and why do they all suck?
>>147148650Not really. Maybe if he appeared say, 10 years ago when the Spider franchise wasn't so saturated. Biggest obstacle was always be billed as "The Miles Morales Killer" by his 'fans' when in reality there hasn't been a single product, character, or concept which was hyped as "The 'x' Killer" that has succeeded claiming that. Schizos on /co/ meme about the movie 'saving' Miles but, Morales broke the news at his debut. Mainstream, on TV back in 2011. When was the last time a purely comic character or comic story line has ever done that? With how rage bait the News Cycle is right now would any comic character be able to do it again? Bailey was really just speculative hype. At least with Punchline you got gooners gooning over her figure.

I tried Ms Marvel/Kamala Khan's comics. The first several issues were alright at best, just plain fine really. The first trade was fine and sold very well albeit a huge drop off after the first one. But after her first appearance everything went downhill and her sales dipped. In fact her floppy sales dipped below levels that would usually trigger cancellation and have done in other books. But then they just kept pushing her.. kept retooling her.. she got a Disney show, she was in a movie, before that she was in games, prominent in that Avengers one, or other projects. They made her into a mutant and did all that. They've had her appear everywhere. And still the character is alright to mediocre. She's been around more than a decade and has no good stories, let alone great ones. But it keeps going, why? She really doesn't generate much of a buzz. I'm not hating on her, I know she has a few fans on /co/ (many coomers), it's just, a lot? Like maybe someone will eventually write a good run for her but I don't see why she has appeared in so many places as compared to many of the other 2010s characters like that. This industry plant stuff just feels like this is the problem. I get that comics creators find it easier to keep reusing a character than create something new but this stuff going on and on until it "sticks" just feels like throwing shit at the wall..
>>147165824GONZALOONZALO
>>147149071>The correct term (using internet speak) would be 'forced characters'. Characters created purely to try and get attention and sales and then kept in the limelight despite lack of popularity (that has been gained naturally). The truth is though to an extent many characters are like that. So much stuff in comics was done intentionally until it stuck, or reworked and reused. So many creative ideas are actually industry and marketing ideas that became entrenched. So many characters people say they like are characters with many poor series who kept getting pushed again or boosted by purposeful crossovers to get people from one book to another. The simple truth is, it's easier to reuse and try again than to keep coming up with new ideas. It's like the whole diversity shit, people always think that's forced where as in the past it wasn't, but in the past it was just as purposeful. After the original X-Men were cancelled they purposefully made the reboot team diverse to appeal to overseas audience, hence why you had team members from many countries. People just think when it's good it equals purposeful and when it's mediocre or bland then it was artificial. So really it's a question of quality and acceptance and not audiences understanding which is which.
>>147165847As someone else stated earlier in the thread the mantle of Robin not only doesn't replace Batman but is used as a training role to build them into their own future identity (Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin)Each Flash has their own villains and identity. Wally had to earn it. Just as Barry has to from Jay.Miles did none. He doesn't make his own identity (tons of Spider themed heroes in NY and yet he's the only one to try and claim Peter's mantle?). 15 years and he still doesn't have any cast of his own besides his Mom and Asian friend. Or villains. He borrows both from Peter. Miles worked in Ultimate as a replacement for a Peter Parker that's dead. In the Main universe he's nothing more than a shallow attempt at trying to slowly force the main mantle away from someone who is alive and kicking and not willing to give it up
>>147161907You are so absolutely mindbroken, it's unreal. When did I mention racism? Or are you just assuming I'm so other guy you're also losing your shit over?
>>147165911Ms. Marvel was a product of that era when they tried to pander to the female audiences, as a result creating these bland books with no real sense of danger or adventure. Usually having obnoxiously comedic tone and silly villains who are more jokes than threats. It's maybe better than Kate Leth's Hellcat or Kate Bishop Hawkeye, but not by much.
