I guess it makes sense for a mermaid cartoon to have magic in it, but magical girl transformation in mermaid cartoons? Mermaid High, Rainbow Bubblegem, Mermaid Magic. Maybe it's not too strange, but it's kind of weird that it happened three times. And recently too, with Mermaid High just being three years old.

Mermaid cartoon thread.
>>
Also, somebody wanted some korean dubs of Rainbow Bubblegem, so here you go.
>aHR0cHM6Ly9tZWdhLm56L2ZvbGRlci9NcmhFM0NvUSNZelJ4UmpyaWd6aV9DaG5LZmY4MEZR

I'm still working on uploading them all, so the last few episodes aren't up yet.

That was me; thanks again.
The English dub has really left quite a lot to be desired; I'm hoping this gets a physical release of some sort for higher quality screencaps.
Again, I really appreciate it.
>>
>>147149270
I'd love to see a physical release with both english/korean and english subtitles, but they really hate doing stuff like that. I guess I could understand not wanting to dub and subtitle something, but I rarely get why they wouldn't want to put the original language in there. You'd think that people intentionally watching foreign media would be interested in the original language.

Not that physical media is that common anyway.

Well, good you got the link. I'm still up to talking about other mermaid cartoons as well, but I did want to pass the link along since the previous thread died.

What are the other two shows in the OP like? I've been trying to hunt down Rainbow Bubblegem's concepts and promotional materials.

>What are the other two shows in the OP like?

Mermaid High was pretty clearly inspired by Monster Girl High and Ever After High. There's no transforming to fight monsters, so it's more high school drama and needing to hide the secret of being mermaids. It had a whole series of short videos on Youtube and a toy line, making it even more clear it was just trying to copy Ever After High/Monster High.

Mermaid Magic is more a new thing on Netflix. It's from the people who made Winx, so I think it's italian in nature. It has more in common with Winx than anything else, so probably just pulled its inspiration from Winx/W.I.T.C.H which were italian comics directly trying to make something local (for them) to compete with manga. I'm guessing it was made to grab attention for people looking or information about the new Winx reboot.

I'll get some youtube examples once my internet is slightly less shit.

Here are the episodes of Mermaid High. They probably have all of them, but I've not gone thru everything. You'll probably get the concept by episode 4 or so, which is when the mermaid secret (obviously) gets revealed.

And here's the magical girl transformations from Mermaid Magic.

Mermaid Magic was decent
>>
>>147149636
Honestly, it looks pretty decent. I'm not sure if I'm hoping for much more than Unicorn Academy or Supernatural Academy from it, but it could be fun to sit down and watch at some point.

We've got S1E25 uploaded, so just one more before it's finally all up.

I feel like this was an excuse to have another RBG but I'm not complaining. Also new red short

>mermaid magic
>black girl is the toughest AND she has electricity powers
>>
>>147150597
Maybe.
Although I don't have a problem with talking about other or related cartoons as well.

>>147150635
I mean, at least it makes a little sense for electricity powers on a mermaid or ocean themed characters. Electric eels are a pretty common reference. But yes, of course it is the black character. I have no clue why this is a thing or how it ended up becoming a thing.
>>
>>147150635
kek, haven't seen the show and I've only started watching some clips and seems fun.

I decided to watch some mermaid high since the episodes are so short, and I think it's cute though obviously more tween focused than toddler/young girl focused compared to bubblegem. The designs obviously had toys in mind so to me they seem kind of hard to read in terms of character design and personality, though it's not entirely impossible (searra is probably the cutest out of the bunch). I guess I'm just less interested in the whole bully/mean girl and crushes stuff you usually see from these type of stories, though cora trying to expose them is pretty funny.

is that new ariel cartoon any good? i liked sofia the first so i'm not adverse to toddlershit

i think it's because it's 'modern' and brown skin people look good in purple

MM alone is more engaging with the fights and "lore" I'll probably watch more of it especially to fill the hole bubblegem left inside me till S2 drops
>>
>>147150902
If you mean Mermaid Magic, I haven't watched it. It's more of the teen demographic and part action/part drama, from what I've seen.

If you mean Rainbow Bubblegem, it's pretty good. More action than something like Sofia, it follows the magical girl trope pretty closely with the monster-of-the-episode fights outside a few two part episodes. The biggest problem is the english dub is awful, and the korean only has official subtitles for the first eight episodes.

tv animation is getting pretty good
>>
Alright, well, my ISP is being a bitch and upload speed feels like 0 when connecting to Mega. I'll get ep26 uploaded in around six hours, probably, unless I fall asleep for the night and just do it tomorrow morning. That shouldn't be a problem if people are downloading it now, since they'll hit the 5GB limit halfway thru the series anyway, but sorry for the wait. Just hang onto the link and grab the last bit tomorrow.

>>147150902
>new ariel cartoon
I assume you're talking about this one. Ignoring the race swap stuff, it's fine, though I enjoy sofia a bit more with the villian and the concept of sofia trying to become a princess being more interesting in general. I've been meaning to watch the Bakery alice show, looks really neat

Holy shit I feel like a dumbass for not realizing this is a new show, looks like I got something to look forward to. Who knew my favorite modern cartoons would be about mermaids fighting monsters

It's impressive how fast I recognized who best girl was

Do any of the Bubblegem girls have model/reference sheets?

I love their retarded expressions in these shorts
>>
>>147150896
Those outfits are fucking ugly.
>>
>>147150981
Alright so I watched the full episode, and so far it's just ok. The designs of the girls are pretty cute but the dialogue and exposition was kinda awkward in a lot of scenes. Disappointed with the "magical girl transformation" scene, the visuals were kind of weak and the suck sucked. Also holy shit the deaths of the monsters are sorta of brutal
>>
>>147151690
Yeh they're pretty bad, I can barely accept them except for the blue haired girl, holy shit she looks terrible
>>
>>147151718
>the suck sucked
the song sucked*. I just really wished the warrior mermaid outfits didn't look so fucking boring
>>
>>147151718
>the visuals were kind of weak and the suck sucked
That's a shame. I hoped the characters would be good at sucking. It would've helped promote some of the R34 at least.

Mermaze Mermaidz is missing but it was cancelled years ago, so who cares, really.
>>
>>147153293
I'd say everything was fair game, I just tried to avoid the Barbie stuff and stick with the recent ones with a transforming theme. Was Mermaze Mermaidz any good? At least Mermaid High has episodes online so you can tell what it's like.
>>
>>147154132
Not really. Not as terrible as i was expecting, but not good.
Group of mermaid girls get chosen to stop some curse that is taking away the colors of their world. They need to awake some color powers, that was part of the dolls (it is a doll commercial after all).
So they learn to work together, accept who they are, and so and so. Okay premise, okayish characters, lame execution, lame development. There was a song in the series that I really liked for some reason, but it was never released.
Dolls didn't sell, there was never a continuation and the mistery never got totally solved.

Episode 26 is finally up as well, so that's all of them. For anyone who was waiting or concerned it would take longer, thanks for the wait.

There's an online decoder with base-64 that you can use to get the full link.
