Worst Case Scenario

Mixed feelings.

First, I feel like Ironwood is in an extremely unfair position. Honestly question, at this point. What exactly can he do to earn Ruby and co.'s trust? Like seriously, what more can he do? It feels like anything less than cowtowing to all their demands makes him "untrustworthy". I get Mantle is suffering, and maybe he can be doing a better job, but it feels like he's the only one being practical, while everyone else is shaming him for not pleasing literally everybody.

Aside from that, good episode. Glad we're giving Ren some personality. Oscar is quickly climbing the ranks of my favorite characters. He's the only one criticizing Ironwood with valid criticisms. James is doing what he thinks Is right, but so is everyone else, and he should trust them. Is it a bit optimistic? Yes. But there's nothing wrong with a bit of optimism. It only wrong when there's way too much of it. I.E ever other character.

Blake and Yang are the only one going against Ironwood while also making sense. Telling Robin could compromise the mission, but so is Robin stealing all of the supplies. And now they have good reason to believe she's not working with Salem (her being attacked by them and all).

Lastly, does Anyone else think Blake's boobs look weird? They look so weirdly far apart. And also weirdly perky. I know the chances of their being a woman in here is zero, but i'll ask anyway, this can't be comfortable, right? I don't have boobs, so idk, it just looks SO uncomfortable.

Ah yes we arrive at the Ironwood problem and where the descent begins. They genuinely would have been better off making him evil, paranoid, and incompetent from the get go. The problem is he does everything right. trust the protags implicitly, and is willing to make concessions at every turn, always acts from logical point. While we get told to be weary of him. Like the what the fuck did Robyn do to earn their trust? Like they are worried about ironwood keeping secrets when his plan from the start was to tell everyone which they were against initially.

>Like the what the fuck did Robyn do to earn their trust?
I have ALOT of problems with Robyn as a character but this part actually makes sense.
For Blake it’s her bring traumatized from having to kill Adam. She doesn’t want to have to kill someone else in self-defense and wants to avoid conflict all together by making peace with Robyn.
For Yang it’s the fact she was always the most critical of Ozpin’s secrets and lies in v5/v6 and she hates keeping secrets from people now.
Is it fucked up they’re both doing this behind everyone else’s back (including Ruby and Weiss)? Yes, but that’s a character flaw not a plothole.

I’ve been gone a few days so I missed the v7c3 thread, but I wanted to contribute to the outfit discourse some.

Sometime after v7 aired (actually it might have been post v8) they released the “Definitive Edition” of the RWBY: Grim Eclipse video game and it included these “Power Armor” versions of their v7 outfits.

Now this might just be me, but I think all of these power armor designs are objective improvements for all 4 girls compared to their canon Atlas designs. Both aesthetically and storywise because it makes more sense to get actual armor as an upgrade from Pietro. Not to mention the thematic idea of getting matching combat armor now that RWBY has effectively become part of the Atlas military for this arc.
>>
>"You keep talking about how we just need a little more time, but you're not the one having to struggle."

Nora standing up for Mantle was the highlight of this episode for me. It's easy to forget, but she was a homeless street rat when she met Ren, seen in the volume 4 flashback. So she feels an inherent connection and desire to defend the lower class of Mantle from Atlas. Everything else about the Atlas/Mantle plot aside, it's just a good character beat.

Aside from that, I'm still honestly not sure what to make of this volume. I mean, it's obviously not as dysfunctional as volume 4. The quality so far is more consistent than volume 5 (that doesn't mean the quality is great). Unlike volume 2, it has themes and something to say. But I just don't really see the bigger picture I guess.

I guess the biggest issue, that I briefly mentioned last thread, is the mismatch between the overarching Salem storyline and volume 7's politicking. Maybe reasonably, the writers didn't want to delay Salem plot stuff again, so they worked very hard to incorporate it into volume 7's Atlas/Mantle conflict. I think this gets at the heart of where this Ironwood stuff is going wrong >>147149987 They want Ironwood to be paranoid and overreact to issues, which causes further conflict with Mantle. But for starters, his paranoia is pretty reasonable! In volume 3, his massive fleet was easily overtaken by Cinder, his fellow Hunters and friends (Ozpin, Lionheart) were defeated, his own robot protector was just framed for murder. Why shouldn't he be paranoid? Actually, that he trusts team RWBY and co so easily is a pretty remarkable display of trust given everything else. He's also the only one with anything resembling a plan to deal with Salem. (1/2)
>>
>>147150616
(2/2) Secondly, I just don't really see how this Salem/Watts/Tyrian stuff fits into the volume 7 plotline at all. The Salem storyline is more directly tied to fantasy and fairy tales. There's no real nuance in stopping Salem. It's a good and noble pursuit that probably will require some tough choices. But having Watts and Tyrian just go out and murder people in the pursuit of causing "division" destroys a lot of nuance that the political allegories of volume 7 needs. I can see the outlines of what's going on here I think. In volume 6, the God of Light told Ozpin that the Brothers wont return to Remnant until humanity is united. In the context of the late 2010's, that line reflects something deeper about American politics; where after 2016, it felt less like one cohesive country and more like a place that was divided between the "red tribe" and the "blue tribe." So, to prevent humanity from uniting on common goals, you get these evil people like Watts and Tyrian involved in politics, causing division for the sake of division. Bad actors whose only goals are conflict and destroying public trust. I think that's how the writers see the connection between the Salem plotline and the volume 7 one.

But I just don't think it works. Like I said, combining the simple black and white, good vs evil storyline with talk of politics, elections, class conflict, just creates a lot of friction. RWBY has dabbled in making the show a bit more gray in the past, but fundamentally it is a show about a group of young heroes trying to save the world from an evil witch. As everything with the White Fang has shown, the writers don't really have a good model for politics. That's not necessarily a bad thing; you don't have to write about this stuff. Just stick with what you know.

I won't join the debates if team RWBY's actions make sense (or not) by this point of the story because if Ozma and his allies were competent, they would have sealed away or banished Salem to outer space by now. The "heroes" keep wasting time instead of thinking together of a plan to defeat her. This isn't debatable. It's imposible to argue in favor of them, when they have the tools to defeat Salem since long ago, especially Ozma. He's the biggest offender in the entire plot. Somehow, Ozma and co. ended up destroying 3 out of 4 kingdoms in the process. The Salem vs Ozma plot doesn't make sense because of the existence of the vaults and relics alone.

>>147150657
Do they even know where Salem is, or how to draw her out? How do we know that Salem wouldn't be able to escape the vault or outer space? Everything regarding Salem and her powers is so vague. Basically all we know about her is that she's immortal, a scorned ex, and gets her powers from a dark god or whatever. Would locking Salem in the vault stop the Grimm from spawning?

Looking for plot holes like these can be a fun exercise, but sometimes it just leads to more questions than answers.

Tbh, the only one here I think looks better is Weiss. From an objective stand point, them getting power Armor makes sense, but I personally don't like it. With the exception of Yang, I don't think it matches any of there fighting styles.

>Salem's location
It's the castle where Ozma and her had a break up. He knows where she lives.
>Draw her out
Use Raven, a team of elite hunstmen, and teleport Salem with the former's semblance as she's regenerating.

1. Make Raven open the Spring Vault.
2. Leave Yang or Qrow next to it.
3. Have Raven and other hunstmen attack together Salem.
4. As she's regenerating, teleport her to where Yang or Qrow are.
5. Throw Salem's corpse into the Vault.
6. Finally, close it.

As to how defeat Cinder. Well, have Emerald, Neo, or the HH with invisibility powers hide Ruby. Or disguise her as someone else. Lure Cinder to the place where Ruby is hidden, and blast her by surprise with the Silver Eyes.

Ambrosius can also teleport anything through his portals anywhere, as long as you provide him coordinates. Just give him astronomically far coordinates, outside of Remnant.

Magic and dust doesn't work outside of Remnant's atmosphere. Salem cannot return from space.
>>
>>147151604
cont. And if you are clever with the relic of knowledge, you can ask Jinn how to immobilize, weaken, seal away, or imprison someone like Salem. Then, relay her answers to Ambrosius, so he creates the stuff needed to defeat Salem. There are no rules that prevent anyone from using two relics to achieve something.

When did Ironwood say to kill Robyn?
>>
>>147150550
Elite huntsmen and Maidens in Remnant aren't that powerful. The only big powerhouses in this series are The Brothers, and arguably Salem and Ozma at his prime. Everyone else is around the same level. Even the Ace Ops -1 can deal with a Maiden. Or Cinder and two mildly competent fighters could take down Amber.

A RWBY thread? On /co/?
>>
>>147150633
>I just don't really see how this Salem/Watts/Tyrian stuff fits into the volume 7 plotline at all

It fits perfectly because Salem takes sick pleasure in watching people tear eachother apart from within. Remember the backstory. Salem doesn't consider the current humanity to be humans at all. They can't even use inherent magic. Not to mention Atlas has a relic that Salem is going to want to grab anyway, so might as well get Watts and Tyrian to do some prep work while she tasks the grimm for invasion. It fits in perfectly because on the one hand: Salem still has that petty streak and wants to draw out everyone's suffering, but on the other hand if Volume 6's opener where she's berating Hazel and co is anything to go by: She's also done fucking around.
>>
>>147150633
>But having Watts and Tyrian just go out and murder people in the pursuit of causing "division" destroys a lot of nuance that the political allegories of volume 7 needs.
The best answer for this is that it only really effects Penny because they're trying to make her seem more like Ironwood's obedient robot than an actual hero of the people like Robyn, but admittedly that is a very weak reasoning for all the murderhobo shit. I like to think Watts just wanted to give Tyrian something to do to blow off steam while he handles the real work because you try telling a psycho scorpion man to contain the murderboner in his pants for his queen's sake. (I mean he'd probably do it, but Watts would probably still get shanked anyway.)
>>
>>147152282
When I say they don't fit, I'm speaking thematically. There isn't a lot in common between the politics of Atlas/Mantle and fairy tale adventure of team RWBY vs Salem. It creates this weird dissonance where you have characters arguing about the best way to allocate resources while also fighting villains who are quite literally evil.

>>147152322
There are ways to try to make sense of it all, but yeah, it's mostly just the disconnect between the two plotlines that bothers me.
>>
Question from the Death Battle thread. Do any of you want TMNT vs RWBY, we need to know how retarded you are
>>
>>147152505
Imagine Konami made beat em up RWBY arcade?
>>
>>147152505
>Death Battle
Their RWBY episodes are useless. Their speed and strength calcs for RWBY characters don't make sense. They are also among those who think that "plasma laser that hurts someone is equally fast as light or photons in a vacuum". Don't watch Death Battle, it's extremely unreliable and poorly written.
>inb4 as bad as RWBY?
Both were part of RT. Enough said.

Also, it's very likely that RWBY loses against TMNT. This is mostly to blame on Team RWBY's lackluster semblances and their terrible fight record. I can see some versions of the ninja turtles beating a Grimm Leviathan together but not Team RWBY accomplishing the same. They still struggle with Cenitaurs and The Hound, which aren't more impressive than V1-2 Grimm.

If there were more powerful or dangerous semblances in Remnant, I could see some huntsmen beating the turtles but due to plot reasons, no one in RWBY is allowed to have powerful semblances that can one-shot anyone or anything without aura cloaks.

What's stopping Fiona from sealing away Salem in a pocket dimension via her palm? The plot.
>>
>>147152498
Thematically yeah. I feel like we should have gotten at least a bit more out of Atlas filler-wise instead of jumping right back into Salem and grimm stuff. Arrowfell helps fill that niche a bit, but not by much sadly.
