>We Patakis don’t TALK about things!>We sweep them under the rug! What did happen in their past?
>>147152431Probably a dead kid. Maybe a miscarriage that led the Mrs. to drink and Pataki to overly invest himself into work or some shit. I mean, mostly kidding but considering how deep Hey Arnold goes I wouldn't be surprised. Would explain the worship they give Olga, but not the neglect they give Helga. However I do know a similar kind of scenario as my own grandparents were like that. First child died as a baby, second one neglected, third worshiped and could do no wrong. Then they adopted and continued to neglect the first....Damn, I didn't expect to be thinking of that today.
Helga's not Bob's
Miriam is an alcoholic. Probably related to that somehow.
>>147153048This. They sweep Miriam’s depression and addiction under the rug instead of talking about it every single day. Probably Bob has some kind of issues too. Like he probably occasionally experiences feelings sometimes that don’t perfectly fit his macho persona, but fuck if he’d ever admit that.
>>147152431Pretty sure their whole marriage was a post teen pregnancy kind of deal. That one episode where Olga was about to get married had Miriam acing like it was the same situation.
>>147152431The Patakis come from Hungary. A lot of fucked up shit happened in Hungary during the 20th century and the way Bob talk, it suggest a generational trauma
>>147153142>Probably Bob has some kind of issues too. He's much too impressed with being "the beeper king". He wears his work shirt with the crown on it around the house.
>>147152698have you looked at them side by side
>>147152431My neighbors are just like this. The husband cares more about is ego than anyone else, his wife constantly buys shit from amazon and gambles on her ipad. The husband has 2 granddaughters and loves the first on more than the second one. I remember putting in a giant picture of his first granddaughter in his office and I notice he hoards all her drawings, has pictures of her everywhere and only has one picture of her second granddaughter in the waiting room. It's depressing.
>>147154225That's so weird, it sounds the kind of people who do that just have no self-awareness whatsoever
>>147153932I thought they were Polish. Helga and Olga aren't Hungarian names.
>>147152674Unless it was a twins thing but only Olga survived so they over compensate by loving her twice as much. Helga had no complications and the stress they went though after Olga survived somewhat desensitized them to that panic of losing a child so they take Helga for granted.Anyway, post cute drunk Miriams Or Olga's inevitable future following in her mom's drunken footsteps
>>147154839Miss Miriam is cute. CUTE!
>>147154839
>>147154968>>147154929too much AI slop, not enough drunk slop

Oh trust me anon, there's a tool in this equation and it's not the auto slop generator.
Anytime I see AI trash my desire to post a real work of art or participate in the thread plummets.
>>147155285Nobody cares about your kid doodles that looks worse than AI.
>>147152431Bob really, REALLY "likes" his daughter Olga and Miriam can barely cope with that fact without indulging into booze.
>>147154769They aren't Polish names either
>>147155353>really, REALLY How much?
>>147156412Enough to cause Miriam to drink...
>>147156437...that really doesn't clear it up any further.
>>147156448I admire your naivety anon.
>>147152431They remind me exactly of my grandparentsGrandfather was some marine retard who did some nothing government work until he retiedGrandmother was BRAINDEAD RETARDED and did fake work like being a "typist" (yes that old) until also retiring on government shitNeither of them seemed to have anything noticibly wrong with them besides a total absence of character, just seemingly their personalities as dumbass fucking retards carried by the prosperity of the times
>>147156630You do know being a typist was a genuine occupation with competative rates depending on how quick you could transcribe anon? Cut them slack. You knew them when they were old after all.
>>147156642I don't want to air the family dirty laundry but she was very open about how easy it was working for the government as a typist, essentially a glorified nothing position even compared to today's make-work.The only slack I'll cut them is that they are tormenting each other to near death in their old age in ways that only an outside observer can witness. She's so retarded and their social circle and enrichment activities so thin that my grandfather is developing dementia from mental atrophy due to living with an unstimulating retard and only having TV and other bullshit non-activities to do.They repeat to his poor face over and over that he's crazy and losing his mind when in actuality all the women in my family are retarded and it's like watching the stanford prison experiment or MK Ultra play out. The only lesson I derive from them as people is to ensure that you have mental stimulation as you get old otherwise you will be destroyedOh well there I go airing some laundry.
>>147156670That sounds depressing as fuck. I hope that does not happen with me and my girlfriend, I am concious as it is regarding not stimulating myself enough with a domestic lifestyle
>>147156690Get hobbies, that was the thing I noticed with him is that gradually every avenue of escape and personal contemplation was stripped from him subtly until he had nothing left and then started to wither into nothing. From bitching about it to outright throwing out his painting materials and various other things that just stifled any kind of living. We often visualize ourselves standing up to our relatives and people of our youth and often we have to endure seeing people our own age whipped and reduced to less than human by women, but it is a terrible thing to see people in your own family reduced to less than what you would consider yourself as dignified and human.Stand up for yourself because even I, not caring what my family said as I told them they were abusers, advocated for this withered man to no avail. People are set in their ways, the best you can do is set your ways wisely.
>>147152431Probrably something related to fraud.
Bump
>>147155417>They aren't Polish names eitherWhat? Anon, Olga is a Slavic equivalent of Germanic Helga.
>>147154839>she and Oscar's wife had a threeway with the dance instructor
>>147152431He sold beepers to Israel
Olga and Helga
>>147157402>>147157812So Olga was totally meant to crash and burn right and end up like Miriam right? There seems to be context clues that Miriam was as much of a perfectionist over achiever in her youth and just like Mariam Olga gets depressed super easily. She's just one more disappointment away from poking her nose into her mom's liquor cabinet and discovering the magic of drinking her sadness away.
They're not perfect but I loved the Thanksgiving episode where they got super concerned over Helga after she ran away
>>147152431Great Grampy Patakowicz kill many men, take many woman and potato before take dead man ticket get on boat to new country
>>147155318Proven wrong every time
Bob was probably raised to be a perfectionist, possibly either being the black sheep amidst his siblings or just pushed over and over by his own father to always outdo himself. That would explain why he's so tough on Helga, only avoiding outright hurting her because he's either aware enough to know he'd be found out if he did lash out, or maybe on some level wanting to not use force because of how it reminds him of his upbringing.Miriam no doubt had some crash and burn moment that led to her "smoothie" addiction. While probably nothing as traumatic as a miscarriage, she could have been on track for big success in business, if the episode where she sobered up and was practically taking over Bob's business is anything to work off of. It's possible they had a fling, she got knocked up, and because some shred of her "knows" she needs to stick around for her girls, she drowns the shame of letting her career be derailed since it's the closest thing to escape without just leaving Bob and the girls behind.
>>147159100>she could have been on track for big success in businessAnd athletics. In the episode where Olga is seduced by that con artist, she mentions having been on track to becoming a championship swimmer. She also has some kinda background in rodeo, as indicated by the episode where Helga and her go on a roadtrip and she wins a mechanical bull competition. When Bob and her first hooked up, she was probably an exceptionally physically fit and active person. A pregnancy and ensuing home life can tank that kind of lifestyle for some people.
>>147159204Kind of makes me think of a role reversal situation of Bloberta and Clay from Moral Orel, except Miriam is the drunk while Bob's the detached one, just not nearly as toxic (or at least not as clearly shown like Orel's parents).
>>147156412about 6 inches
>>147159592They call him "Big Bob" for a reason
>>147159204>>147159100iirc there was hints given that Miriam was very similar to Olga. She is likely the perfectionist, not Bob. Bob is a grand standing loud mouth who is obsessed with his success, not perfection. So he was a big shot in high school looking to give himself all the finest things in life and that included the honor roll high aspirations beauty queen like Miriam. She either fell for his confidence or convinced herself her own dreams would be boosted by getting attached to a guy who had the makings of a president. But then Bob actually peaked in high school meaning all his course bravado started to fall flat in the real world. Rather than becoming some rich tycoon like Miriam possibly hoped he instead get locked into a fading technology empire he doesn't have the business guile or economic instincts to pivot to bigger things or keep growing. He just stagnates.Miriam meanwhile gets knocked up so all her athletic prospects are shot to hell. She can't go to college because she has to raise a child, Bob couldn't handle caring for a baby. Slowly she realizes Bob is a rapidly fading star she's anchored herself to. She can't abandon her daughter and her dreams are lost. Maybe she starts to believe she can pour her aspirations into Olga, a notion Bob certainly agrees with since he'd expect nothing less from his own child to be the alpha like her parents still are in Bob's mind. By time Helga is born Miriam likely realizes her life is becoming a meaningless existence and I'd wager her drinking probably started sometime during Helga's first year or two.
Some families are just bad at communicating. I thought that was the point of Helga being a wannabe poet in that she could be eloquent but her upbringing made it impossible to actually express the emotions aloud.
>>147159846>I'd wager her drinking probably started sometime during Helga's first year or two.One can hope. While Helga didn't display any deformities, it's still scary to imagine Miriam could have been drinking while pregnant and somehow managed not to fuck up either of her kids
>>147159846I'd be surprised if Miriam's drinking started that far back really. Decent chance it started after Olga went to college, which made it more difficult for Miriam to live vicariously through her achievements. Plus Helga likely turned her usual resentment toward Olga more on her mother since the former wasn't around anymore; Helga pretty clearly has a lot of contempt for Miriam and that episode with them taking a trip shows Helga never really talks to her.
>>147160594But if she didn't start until that late then I'd expect Helga to make some comments like "You used to act like a mother" or "You've been unbearable since Olga left". The absence of these sentiments give me the impression that from Helga's perspective this is how she's always known her mom, as a drunk. If she was still motherly through Helga's early life then Helga wouldn't feel so distant from her that she calls her by her first name rather than mom.Olga had a mom growing up and calls her mother.Helga didn't and learned what this slovenly woman's name was "Miriam" from the big male brute that brings them their food and provisions which the woman calls "Bob".
>>147160979Not him, but I can sort of see the reasoning given that back when Olga was still home, Miriam and Bob did seem more peppy and attentive to her. Of course, one could make the argument that Miriam's drinking just wasn't as severe because she had her golden child to dote on. It's been a while since I've watched that one flashback episode, so I can't recall if Miriam had drank at all in it, but to my recollection, she was mostly shown gushing over Olga for playing piano and ignoring her youngest child going out in the fucking rainstorm
>>147160979Keep in mind that Helga would have just been six or seven when Olga started college. If Miriam started after that, that's still like a third of Helga's entire life so far.
>>147160979I always felt like Helga would eventually tell her parents off.
>>147161459Kids start calling their mom as mommy by 3. Unless something major shifted after Olga left it seems odd for Helga to have the habit of calling her parents by their first names that early. I think Helga has only ever known the neglect so she doesn't seem phased by it, I.E. the absence of resentment for them changing after Olga left makes me think it was normal prior to that.Helga's normalcy for her mom drinking doesn't seem like something she'd have accepted so fully by time the series starts.
>>147161679Is she really in love with Arnold or is it something else?
>>147161719Are you saying she's sending mixed messages?
>>147161719It's probably fair to say it started off as attachment born of her desperation for attention and validation, but considering how she acts over the course of the show, it's pretty clear Helga does legitimately love Arnold. In the episode where she imagines herself her future with him, I think that was the turning point where she realized that she was deifying him a bit too much in her mind. Since if you recall that same episode had Arnold imagine her becoming a fatass couch potato who would do nothing but pop out kids and run him ragged as the bread winner; he was putting too much stock in his negative feelings and not considering that maybe she could be capable of sharing such a heavy burden like marriage.
>>147158329Considering they wanted the Patakis spin-off show to be a little edgier, I think it's clear they were setting up Olga to fail.
>>147161719Genuine, she's from a isolated fucked family that has no cares or emotions. Most helga eps show her mom is mostly braindead drunk/out of it and her dad is to busy and focused on business and money to be around. So Arnold that's a beacon of caring and hope even in tough times is the ideal person to her, she probably has a bit of a glorification of him as well as she feels she might not deserve him. Like how many view themselves as ruining someone good or unable to give or receive love because of how they were raised or are.Sadly I always related to Helga as it's my exact life. Small business dad, started it on the week I was born so barely saw or did anything with him. Mom who liked her "smoothies" *cough* daiquiri's and older sis with big age gap. who was super popular and outgoing with tons of friends and talents also was around when we lived by our big family and my parents had more energy and time. I really why I can't help but feel for the old girl
>>147161886Would the spin off have succeeded if the higher ups gave it the greenlight?
>>147161818>Arnold imagine her becoming a fatass couch potato who would do nothing but pop out kids and run him ragged as the bread winnerI don't recall this. Are you thinking of the Simpsons when Lisa had a similar expectation of her future with Ralph?
>>147161886>>147161944I imagine it would probably have depended on how involved Barlett was with things. Would seem pretty cruel to make the family go from bad to worse, but I suppose there's always a chance they would have finally turned shit around, or at least have Helga and Olga realize they don't have to be like their parents through respective epiphanies
>>147161944This is why we need to invest in cross dimensional TV signals. So we can see the realities where shows like this got greenlit to see what could have been.
>>147162004No, it's an episode of the show. If I'm remembering right, Rhonda does one of those paper fortune things, the weird origami thing with the names folded. She says Arnold and Helga will get together, and the two have vastly different dreams about their marriage, with Helga imagining herself becoming president but also a James Bond style agent saving the day and Arnold.
>>147152674the middle child died. thats why olga gets doted on, and helga gets ignored
>>147162201Do you have proof?
>>147154993its kinda sad that carl is such a miserable fuck, that he drove a better version of himself to ruin his family and commit suicide
>>147161459>Keep in mind that Helga would have just been six or seven when Olga started collegeIn a flashback it shows Olga what it looks like she could be in either high school or 8th grade.
>>147162201Nah, if it was a middle child then Helga would be the one getting extra attention since they'd fear losing her like her older sibling.Being Olga's twin would make the most since because it gives her "the one who survived" circumstances and overall being a miracle child syndrome.
>>147161938I hope you get help anon.>>147162234Never understood how they didn't get in trouble.
>>147162269My help was deciding to do things on my own, but damage be done. But they do say at some point life is your own so can't blame others. Why I kind of respected helga's independence even if a bit cruel or schizo
>>147162310I meant therapy, consoling, and phycology.
>>147162218only anecdotal. my family sent through something similar. except it was all boys. they lost the middle child due to the umbilical cord wrapping around his neck and choking him in the womb and losing him. they overcompensated with the first, had a third, and proceeded to let him fend for himself while continuously doting on the first. its a good thing he had a strong family outside his parents. when he finally got older and they threw something in his face, he went off on all of them, and bever spoke to them again. he lives in NC now happily married>>147162254>Nah, if it was a middle child then Helga would be the one getting extra attention since they'd fear losing her like her older sibling.it makes sense, but sometimes it doesnt work that way. with my cousins they doted so much on the oldest that they didnt have anything else for the child. and with a strong extended family, i guess they must have felt that he would be alright, except he never got the admiration from the ones he wanted it from. its the same with latchkey kids that will look to their absent parents for approval, unaware that their parents are simply incapable of giving them what they want
>>147162269Considering real life child services are spotty to the point that they're sometimes useless depending on the state, it's probably fair to suggest that wherever the show was set doesn't have the best CPS. The city is often shown as fairly run down in places and even crime riddled, at least back in the episodes where you'd hear fucking gunshots and sirens that implied shit was Detroit levels of bad.And while not to defend Bob or Miriam, their abuse is mainly emotional. From what we know, they don't hit Helga or do warped shit like stick in closets, they just zone out when it comes to her as if she's dead to them.
>>147154929Stick to your containment thread slopshitter
>>147162337I mean were both on 4chan we all could use it. Ironically my old lady tried to get me some, because she felt I didn't like them. So kind of soured therapy to me
Never understood why society has a massive fetish of force forgiveness, and bad peace.
>>147162464>Considering real life child services are spotty to the point that they're sometimes useless depending on the statei know for sure in california theres problems. my aunt is a foster and the shit she has to deal with coming from the most terrible parents is fucking heartbreaking
>>147162558Terminally online people love that they can make others bend over backwards to their whims. It's concerning given nobody should be able to do that, and there's argument to be made the people who capitulate aren't helping matters, but it's just how the current paradigm is>say something bad on social media>get dog piled until you either leave or apologizeIt's funny because I've started to feel like people need to adopt Spectacular Spider-Man Norman's viewpoint of never apologizing, at least not until these crazies have been driven back into the shadows
>>147154079>He's much too impressed with being "the beeper king".And being the beeper king is just a financial crisis waiting to happen since even when Hey Arnold! was new it was obvious beepers were on the way out.Bob seems like the type of guy that would stubbornly insist beepers will get popular again any moment and not do the smart thing and invest in other products like smartphones. It's like being the "Blockbuster King" he's pretty much destined to financial failure unless he changes his business strategy. And Miriam is such a raging alcoholic she'll probably just numb herself and not tell him the obvious advice he needs to hear.
>>147162851Felt like this caused by both day care and public school more then online.
>>147162950>Bob seems like the type of guy that would stubbornly insist beepers will get popular again any moment and not do the smart thing and invest in other products like smartphones.Pretty sure that was a joke in the Jungle Movie, which seemed to slide the timeline of the show closer to the modern era since they mention newer phones and things like wi-fi
>>147158329Helga had a rough childhood so she had to get tough and could probably end up doing good despite a rough situation. Even if she obviously has her own mental health issues. Helga is used to failure which is something which actually helps you be successful in the long run.Olga always seem destined for success so any small failure will probably end up devastating to her.
>>147163053Considering she nearly became catatonic after thinking she got a B+, it's not hard to imagine her having trouble with even passable successes in life
Didn't a Maid give Helga sound advice? Also did you guys consider Helga as the main character?
>>147162464>The city is often shown as fairly run down in places and even crime riddledAs someone who has actually been to Detroit I wouldn't consider it that bad; just a shitty area of New York. Hey Arnold! tended not to shy away from showing the realities of urban life so they'd show homeless people and stuff like that. They dealt with adult topics a lot in a fairly kid friendly way. Miriam is an alcoholic and drinks "shakes". Oscar is a freeloader off his wife. Mr Hyunh is basically a war refugee that lost his daughter. Arnold's grandma basically has dementia. Chocolate boy is basically a drug addict obsessed with getting his next fix. Curly was pretty much a parody of your stereotypical school shooter.
>>147163142What's the chances that Helga becomes more attractive then Olga?
>>147163168>Also did you guys consider Helga as the main character? No she's like Angelica from Rugrats or Nigel from The Wild Thornberries. She's kind of the favorite of the writer's but not treated as the "main" character.
>>147152698anon she has his exact nose and unibrow
>>147163297Did you make this?
>>147163267>Oscar is a freeloader off his wife.Still kind of bums me that Suzie left him sometime between the finale of the show and the Jungle Movie. While I know Oscar wasn't making any massive strides towards becoming a better man, I felt like he was at least going to try and do things to improve himself after the episode where he conquered his dyslexia to get help for Suzie's infant niece. I get that they had their ups and downs before in the show, but the fact that they kept reconciling felt like maybe Oscar would have some kind of breakthrough, even if it was offscreen.
>>147163297Runaway Helga? She should meet up with Riley. The former is in Seattle, the latter in San Fran. Therefore Portland is the logical midway meeting point.
>>147163301Would be pretty amusing, though probably wouldn't mean much unless Helga and Arnold's relationship falls apart and Helga becomes available for guys to fawn over
>>147163301Helga probably gets with Arnold. She has to do some extra work like shaving her eyebrows to look pretty but overall she has a better personality. She will actually be madly in love with you while Olga will probably be too obsessed trying to get a promotion at some mediocre job to realize the important thing in life is caring for your husband and kids.
>>147163348I thought the show took place in New York.>>147163364>>147163387Maybe it's me but I always felt their relationship is doomed by either middle or high school for some reason.
>>147163437>I thought the show took place in New York.So did a lot of people. It was made generic enough to be any cosmopolitan US city. They never actually said on the show. But it was primarily inspired by Seattle, with some NY flavor.
>>147152674Miscarriage doesn't seem like it would leave them like that. The notion they have a third child who died seems right. It has "toddler fell into the pool" kind of failure vibes (where it was a legit accident but something that was fully preventable) but since they live in NYC it'd have to be whatever the big city equivalent of that is (maybe like running into traffic).
>>147163497it's Seattle
>>147163437From a realistic standpoint, it likely wouldn't last too long after the "honeymoon" period of finally having opened up to each other. But given the show wasn't afraid to be a little dramatized in some aspect, I could see Arnold and Helga sticking together into adulthood and becoming a loving family. One can only wonder what their future would be like, since it wouldn't be glamorous as Helga's fantasy in that one episode, or quite as gloomy as Arnold's nightmare. I would guess Arnold would try to be his usual optimistic self, with maybe Helga giving him the occasional nudge to not just settle for every mess life drops into his lap, she'd want him to shoot for better if she feels like he's being shortchanged in a situation
>>147163301Olga got Miriam's looks, Helga's Bob made over.
>>147163142>"Momsy I've had such an awful day! My life is over!">"Oh Olga, You know you're going to bounce back from-">"No! You don't understand I'm a failure! I don't deserve to live on this planet anymore! I.. I... I need something sweet! Let me have some of this smoothie you made!">"Olga no dont that's-!"And then Miriam knew it was too late. The moment the alcohol touched Olga's lips she learned the secret to Miriam's mood. The buzz that soon followed and lifted Olga's spirits like they'd never soared before... and spelled the end of Olga ever needing to put forth any effort ever again. Now that she knew satisfaction could be found at the bottom of a liquor bottle Olga was never the same...
>>147163497There doesn't need to be some dark backstory. Olga comes across as the perfect child and was winning a ton of awards and trophies so it's easy for someone like Bob to fall in love with her success, especially since Bob is the type of character to value success. Might be getting the exact quote wrong but I remember him saying something like>"She's won every dang spelling bee in the whole state!"while pointing at a bunch of trophies. She's the favorite child for a reason. She's the stereotypical perfect child while I wouldn't be surprised if Helga was a "mistake" they never expected to have. You can easily imagine Bob and Miriam having some argument over her getting accidentally pregnant with Helga.>God dang Merriam what do you mean you're pregnant? We've been using condoms for years are you saying all that was for nothing? Have you been seeing someone else?>Don't you start with me I know you've been eyeing that secretary at your beeper store!
>>147163793Helga would probably refuse to take a sip of alcohol because she'd have such a chip on her shoulders from seeing her mom drunk all the time. If she saw Arnold drunk while in college she'd probably scold the fuck out of him.
>>147162004She wasn't actually fat in the scenario but they did have a bunch of ugly ass kids
>>147162482I find it funny you losers get assblasted by AI when I'm fine posting any Human or machine image I can find. Who gives a fuck how it's made? It's just pixels at the end of the day.

>>147154993On model yet looks like utter shit.Sad!
>>147163979Isn't the bowtie baby just the baby from Simpsons that Maggie has beef with?
>>147159672>>147159592Big Bob would probably have something like 6.5 inches. Technically bigger than average but he'd have a major complex about it and get into arguments with Miriam trying to ask if her exes were bigger than him.>"I AIN'T QUITTING THE BEEPER BUSINESS MARIAM, BIG BOB DOESN'T QUIT">"Yeah well why does 'Little Bob' quit so often?" she says to a suddenly red faced Bob angry with rage.
>>147162950I would assume by 1999-2002 Big Bob would have been all over the Nokia 5110 craze and sold each and every single one of the little cheap Chinese made addons and decorations invented for it. Then once the Beeper thing finally falls off he either moves completely into Cell accessories and puts a kiosk in every nearby mall, or he gets in on the boost mobile thing and opens up a few franchises all over the ghetto by 2005.
>>147162234yeah I'd assume Olga in that flashback is probably only about 13-14 or so, which lines up with her probable age during the show proper>>147163348>>147163437>>147163495the show takes place in the fictional city of Hillwood, which is a sort of blend of NYC, Seattle, and Portland in terms of influences, as for where it's located they never really outright say but lots of little hints throughout the show indicate that it's probably somewhere in Washington>>147163301>>147163364>>147163437>>147163548the flashforward seen at the end of "Married" >>147163387 is supposed to be a canon one(and not a dream like the ones in the rest of the episode) so yes to both Arnold & Helga getting married eventually and for Helga being good looking when she's older
>>147164317Cry moar faggot. I wasn't even interested but here's one to piss you off.
>>147156670It's also an era thing though. Men did not actually learn how to type at all in wide numbers until the late 80s. In earlier decades that was considered to be a woman's skill. Especially in the 40s-60s. Men would intentionally avoid typing or any kind of typing class in school because that was a woman job and they might be called gay for doing it. So you had a lot of older guys in offices and governments who cold not type worth a shit and they hired women to type basically everything. It was an easy job.
What's the chances that when Helga becomes a teenager that runs off and lives in the boarding house?
>>147163267Also Sid was essentially a mafia goon that got himself into trouble a lot. Half the kids represented some kind of real life adult problem like that.
>>147163168I preferred Helga as the main character since she was normal. Arnold was too weird, like he is some kind of urban Jesus that does not at all act or think like a 10 year old. He just does not fit the setting as a kid that grew up in the inner city.
>>147164578The teacher was also super obviously gay, but they didn't draw much attention to it. Honestly my main questions about him as a kid had nothing to do with his sexuality and more about why he was dressed like the titular Doug from that other Nickeloden cartoon.
>>147163979>She wasn't actually fat in the scenarioAh, that clears it upAnon got my hopes up for nothing
>>147164590Don't forget Arnold also had like the coolest bedroom. That kind of thing would probably be expensive as fuck in most cities nowadays for an actual adult.
>>147163297this is great, who's the artist?
>>147164658I wouldn't be surprised if it was done as a bit of a joke. Though I wouldn't want to assume since I've only read bits and pieces of behind the scenes stuff regarding the talents that used to work for Nick back in the day
>>147155353>>147156437>>147156448>>147156460I GET IT. DAVID LYNCH DIED RECENTLY. MOVE ON.
>>147163387If Helga can correct her malformed personality that tells her she is unlovable, why can't Olga correct her her malformed personality that tells her she must earn love through achievement?
>>147164658The bigger question is why Doug dresses like he's 40
>>147164990He's a dork.
Why does Olga's standard costume design look like a "naughty schoolgirl" cosplay?
>>147164973>personality that tells her she must earn love through achievement? This is true though.
>>147164973It's easier to fix your mistakes if you have the mindset that making mistakes is natural and you just need to learn from your mistakes and improve. The problem with Olga is that she is a perfectionist so any "failure" in her life seems like the end of the world.
>>147165020I think it's the colors. If it were a blue skirt and no black vest, the ensemble would be a lot more "plain" looking. But the skirt being dark green with the yellow checkered look and the vest over the white blouse give that typical "naughty schoolgirl" vibe. Kind of reminds me of the uniform seen on the girls from Bully, maybe there's more to the green skirt than just what I'm thinking, but it does seem like that color has a certain appeal to it.
>>147164661have that pic in a better size anon
>>147164661>>147165106and the prequel
>>147164973>why can't Olga correct her her malformed personality that tells her she must earn love through achievement? That's pretty much what she was trying to do in that episode with Lila.
>>147165075God dammit, thanks for reminding me we'll never get a Bully sequel, asshole.
>>147165230Hey don't blame me, blame Cockstar and their weird reluctance to do anything that isn't GTA or RDR (though mainly GTA because they can't milk RDR nearly as much as the former). It's a shame they put so much faith into just one franchise, granted one that makes a ton of dosh, but can't be assed to try some other stuff in the fifty years we have to wait between GTA sequel
>>147164688I always wanted his room, that skylight and way onto the roof seems like magic.
Drunk molestation. Big Bob once thought Olga was Miriam one night.
>>147164658Didn't the Thanksgiving episode spell it out?
>>147164688>>147165411It wasn't the skylight, but the automated everything. The bed and chairs fold into the walls with a button push. Arnold had a special cartoon high tech bedroom with mechanical stuff in the walls that moved furniture in and out. And a weird little robot version of himself as an alarm clock.
>>147165477Which was pretty snazzy given the rest of the building, at least the rooms we see of it, were either rundown or felt like they got the bare minimum of maintenance. The only room that was probably more high tech than Arnold's would be Mr. Smith's since the dude had access to a fucking hidden vault where he left his rent money and a private dumbwaiter or whatever that he got his food sent through while the rest of the tenants had to hoof it to and from the kitchen.
>>147165458To my recollection, they don't quite spell it out, but the breadcrumb implications are there that it leaves very little doubt to what they're talking about. And after the Jungle Movie, it's definitely obvious with the scant few seconds we see of his boyfriend
>>147165591I haven't fully seen the Jungle Movie but it seems more subtle than something like Arthur where they had the gay teacher explicitly have a gay wedding where they invite all the kids.
Never watch the movies are they worthy the watch?
>>147165731They're pretty fun, though the first one is really just an extra long episode, which is partly intentional due to how the suits at Nick wanted to keep up the great results they had from other Nickelodeon cartoon movies (namely the first two Rugrats movies), whereas Craig Barlett had originally planned for it to just be a TV special and the actual theatrical movie to be Jungle movie. The Jungle Movie definitely has best payoff if you've watched the whole series, or at least the key episodes about Arnold's parents, since the film is all about him finally learning what became of his family. The updated timeline thankfully doesn't impact the setting too much, but the more serious plot was a bit divisive for some fans given the show had been largely low stakes up until then, with only the occasional one-off villain threatening the town or Arnold and his friends. This time around, we get a villain who gets pretty hardcore in a few scenes.
>>147165826>updated timelineIn what way?
>>147152431How do they cope with surviving Nazi Germany & Warsaw Pact?
>>147165623Yea, it's pretty subtle. To anybody who wasn't aware, it would just seem like two friends sharing a farewell hug, but when you know about Robert and Peter, it's pretty clear.
>>147165897Some of the kids have smartphones, and they bring up wi-fi at one point during a joke. Granted, the latter was a thing right around the time the show originally came out, but it wasn't as widely used as it is these days, and of course smartphones, at least the kind you see kids stuck to these days are much more recent
>>147165075It's those things and also that she's exposing her belly and the thigh-highs. It's like a slutty version of a schoolgirl outfit; hence cosplay
>>147161938A bit of glorification? She built an idol of him out of chewing gum that she keeps in a hidden shrine in her closet.
>>147160979>in a good mood because she cheated on her husbandwoman moment
>>147165934Rhonda's getting stacked...
I always liked how they didn't make a fantasy substitute for Miriam's booze; it's just that she's putting vomething like vodka into her smoothies. She's putting booze in something cold and sweet so it's easier to drink.
>>147162269>Never understood how they didn't get in trouble. The day of? Helga arrives to the preschool safely and the teacher simply doesn’t notice she wasn’t dropped off by an adult. After she tells the therapist? It’s like five years later, Helga’s memory of the event could be inaccurate, Helga as a nine year old doesn’t appear to be in any immediate danger, and the therapist is trying to build a rapport and probably doesn’t want to lose Helga’s trust by immediately narcing on her.
>>147165899They aren’t canonically Jewish though.
>>147162234Most likely high school since that was at least five years before the current series and Olga has probably been in college for at least three of those since she's student teaching.
>>147165934Damn HA really didn’t survive the jump to the digital age.Everything looks so saturated and the posing looks stilted and too much like a Seth McFarlane cartoon or adult animated show.I know it’s been a decade since the show last aired.>>147165623We missed out on some damn great animation quality.https://vimeo.com/36323643
>>147166419I mean, it was still pretty well animated, but yea, it's a shame they didn't make the backgrounds more stylized like the original show. Of course, I wouldn't know if that was entirely a decision made by Bartlett or if he didn't get much say in the animation process beyond handing over his storyboard and script. It probably wouldn't have taken too much extra time to go in and have the animators replicate the hand-drawn look, but I guess Nickelodeon probably wouldn't have signed off on that without a lot of convincing.
>>147165072Olga crying made me feel funny even as a young kid. What does that mean?
>>147166613Because of the tears messing up her makeup or because you have a crying fetish?
>>147166624I think because of the makeup but women cry does occasionally give me a sympathetic boner
>>147166613As a kid you usually cry because of stupid things like scrapping your knee or some other kid calling you a dork.Seeing an adult like Olga crying because she thinks she has failed in life fills you with a weird sense of sadness even if you don't truly comprehend why she's crying. Seeing a little baby cry because they can't get their milk bottle ain't a big deal. Seeing your dad cry because his mom just passed away hits harder because he ain't supposed to cry.
>>147163297Damn this is cool!!>>147166484I'm glad we got the Jungle Movie, I really am. It's just sad we didn't get it when we should have gotten it.At least the movie had good voice acting for the kids. That is a consistent complement I can give Hey Arnold.
>>147167077As I understand it, 20 members of the original cast returned, which is pretty staggering considering that whenever cast reunions are done for a new work, so many of the poor bastards are dead and gone that they've dwindled to single digits. It was also nice that Helga, Harold, Rhonda, Phoebe, Big Patty and Stoop Kid's VAs were all able to return since their voices didn't change that much in the 15 year gap.
>>147152431Miriam drunk driving accident and how she doesn't have her license anymore.
>>147154769They aren't but I see them around every once in a while
