Anyone else prefer Zenith to Morrison's early DC work?

Idk why but it's one of those comics were you reread it the second time after "understanding" everything and it just doesn't hit the same for the first 2 parts so i just skip to the last w , the multiverse arc was pretty cool though and i still enjoy re-reading it it's my favorite, the last one with the cosmic egg thing was just really freaky and i liked it for that.

Also, the printed copies I got were not good quality, especially the 3rd and 4th trades.

I think Doom Patrol is a lot more interesting and fun, and I think Mozzer's JLA is a better version of the story they're trying to tell here. I do think it's interesting that they've been working on variations of the same idea or ideas pretty much the whole time they've been writing and it's interesting from a historical perspective to see the early seeds of that stuff, but having read it once I'll probably never read it again.

Zenith is fantastic, albeit a bit derivative of what was being written at the time, especially Moore's stuff.
Animal Man is his best early work, start to finish. Gets a bit wacky in the end, but the playoff is neat.
Doom Patrol has great highs (the brotherhood of Dada), but the run is a bit of a mess and I really hate the plot twist.

Zenith ran concurrent with Animal Man and Doom Patrol for a little bit, and Phase 4 of Zenith came out after his Animal Man had ended and after 3/4ths of his Doom Patrol had been published. That being said, I think Phase 4 of Zenith is better than anything in Animal Man, Doom Patrol, and JLA. Phase 3 is also up there.
I think I value Morrison's more British exuberance and Steve Yeowell's terrific, atmospheric inks over the less satisfying art of his early DC work (aside from his Batman).

Yeah, Zenith is a very noticeable remix of Moore's 80s comics, from Captain Britain to Miracleman to Watchmen, with some Luther Arkwright and Paradax thrown in for good measure.

Zenith by Grant Morrison, a superhero comic published by 2000 AD.

Zenith himself is a Paradax rip-off, visually and conceptually, though their powers and all are different. Brendan McCarthy even drew the concept art. I think both are based on Morrissey.
The stories are a mashup of Lovecraft and Alan Moore comics.

I seriously cannot take british "social commentary" seriously, the fantasy concepts are great, and the story is splendid, with the finale being one of the best payoffs I've seen... But anglos are just too concerned with their own view of history and morality for a normal person to relate to without feeling a bit, well, disgusted with the hypocrisy.

he was only really creator due to being the 2000AD editor it's kinda like saying Roy thomas was co-creator on Wolverine due to being the editor of the Hulk at the time
and it's not like Mills didn't create anything noteworthy strips like ABC Warriors, Nemesis the Warlock,Slàine ect and that only focusing on his 2000AD work

Maybe it's the versions that are commercially available but I found the art to be probably the weakest part, especially in books 3 and 4. I found it less "atmospheric" and more muddled and incomprehensible.

That's interesting that they were coming out concurrently with his early DC work, I hadn't realized that.
