>Mfw learning that new DC comics are getting trades and entire runs from the 70s and 80s are still uncollected.Off the top of my head, Wolfman's New Titans hasn't been collected past the Troia shit, Thomas' All-Star Squadron and Infinity Inc. only have one trade each, Levitz's Legion of Super-Heroes has a weird gap in it between The Curse and the start of Volume 3, Barr's Outsiders hasn't been collected past when Batman leaves the team, and Kupperberg's Vigilante apparently hasn't been collected at all.Is this because of royalties? When are DC going to stop being such fucking Jews about this?
Surely dc finest books will save the day
>>147173780>>147173836Teen Titans and Bronze Age Legion being on DC Finest's list do give me some hope for collections.
>>147173836I ain't reading that shit though
>>147173780No one wants to remember the New Titans.Have they even bothered to collect anything from that era besides Total Chaos?
>>147173780There simply is no market. The people who would care likely still have the original issues . These don’t get new fans and DC active;y wants to erase their history. They don’t want the people who watched Peacemaker to ever learn what Gunn did to Vigilante, or to think of Legion before any relaunch or rework they’re currently trying.
>>147173780maybe that stuff you're mentioning wont sell and DC knows it
>>147173780DC doesn't care about keeping their catalog in print. Marvel cares even less. And no, it has nothing to do with royalties. They just don't care.>>147173982>>147175156DC doesn't care about sales. They generally only keep in print the critically acclaimed stuff.
>>147173780>Is this because of royalties?Yes, the contracts during that era were very good for creators because they were trying to compete with Marvel by throwing money at the problem. This means for a long time the only bronze age stuff it'd be profitable to reprint were the big earners. I don't think any of that has changed but their collections division is under new management so maybe they have different ideas. Marvel's strategy for a while has been omni first (biggest profit margin), softcovers second (biggest sales) and they have been successful offsetting the cost of restoration that way, so it could be DC is going to emulate that.
>>147173982>They don’t want the people who watched Peacemaker to ever learn what Gunn did to Vigilante, or to think of Legion before any relaunch or rework they’re currently trying. Not printing stuff won't magically memory hole it.
>>147176088>don't ever collect or acknowledge it>new fans say :See, NO ONE cared about ____ before James Gunn!
>>147173780>Is this because of royalties? When are DC going to stop being such fucking Jews about this?Because it's not profitable as in they'll lose money because of the royalty deals they signed. That's why for example they had to renegotiate with some of the creators to do new collections of their work since the people who inked the deals never thought tpbs were going to take off.
>>147176124This already falls apart when Peacemaker is getting collected, including the 80s stuff which might include Vigilante
>>147173780Just pirate that shit, bro
Batman Nevermore isn't even old and it's never been collected into a trade. Len Wein, Guy Davis and covers by Bernie Wrightson - surely this'd have an audience?
>>147176066>the contracts during that era were very good for creators because they were trying to compete with Marvel by throwing money at the problemThis is the opposite of reality. WB never authorized that kind of spending and Marvel paid WAY better.
>mfw there's still gaps in the original Birds of Prey run not being collectedWhile not as old as the stuff OP is talking about it's still frustrating, made even more so because most of the Simone stuff was reprinted within the past few years. There's a decent chunk of pre-Simone stuff that's either never been collected or was only collected as part of another character's run.
