Got any unpopular Transformers opinions?

I liked Transformers 1 and 3. The unpopularity is
>liking any of the Bayformers at all
>>
>>147209929
i liked all 3, i dont remember what happens after the third movie, galvatron fights the dinobots or some shit
>>
there should be more romance, particularly cybertronian/human, romance in the franchise

>>147209937
>galvatron fights the dinobots or some shit
One of the 4th's greatest sin is that they don't do this at all.
>>
I can't wholeheartedly enjoy the Unicron Trilogy version of Starscream. Don't get me wrong, the Armada and Cybertron takes on him are both great in a vacuum, but the severe disconnect between them makes each weigh the other down for me. Yes, I'm aware of the behind-the-scenes reasons for that, but it's something I just can't get over.

And the less said about him in Energon, the better.
>>
Humans need more presence to establish scale. Otherwise they're just normal sized robots in a normal sized setting.

I think it's less about humans and more about better camera angles. Otherwise, you get this effect where you're constantly regarding giant robots as tall humanoids like in ROTB.
>>
>>147209929
The real unpopularity would be saying you liked The Last Knight like me. It may even be my favorite Bayformers movie.
>>
I liked 2, moreso than 1 and 3, devastator balls and all

I'm not aware, explain.

Transformers and Sonic are essentially an equal level of autistic, Sonic just gets a worse rap because it's fan base has a few standout horrible members.

Optimus should have stayed dead.

Well, long story short, Cybertron was originally set in its own continuity, but the American localizers decided to make it a sequel to Energon when they brought it stateside.

I'd like a re-release of the Marvel 80 issue run. And if there is one already for someone to point me in the right direction.

Based. I don't know why, but Prime Arcee just does it for me and I'm not much of a clanker.

Me neither. She just had such a sensual, human design. You'd almost expect to feel an uncanny warmth if you touched her. To say nothing of the size difference...you'd just get lost in all of it.

Just go with Japanese continuity where Armada/Micron Densetsu and Cybertron/Galaxy Force ARE separate takes.

>>147210110
Cybertron was initially conceived by Hasbro and Takara as a sequel to Armada/MD and Energon/Super Link, however they got a new studio, and there wasn't really anything in the series that tied back to the previous series. The English dub made some callbacks and Takara used to have an online timeline that lumped them together, but outside of toylines and other promotional Hasbro media, Cybertron is treated as completely its own thing, as seen in the 40th Anniversary Special Movie.
>>
>>147210274
Kinda, but it's never outright bad and it has its moments in Season 1 and early Season 2.

I loved the cast, the animation, the story. It just felt like...prestige. Same vibe as pre-Disney Clone Wars. Welker and Cullen back as the big two with fucking JEFFREY COMBS as Ratchet. Great fucking show.

i like dorito Starscream despite how terrible he is as an adaptation of Starscream. i actually really like his design, even if his colors are bland. also, even though he barely tries to betray Megatron and just seems more like a meek and incompetent character instead of his usual cunning and deceptive self, i still like him for whatever reason

I'll never forgive Bayformers for how they did Jazz dirty. But I'll be damnded if it isn't a fascinating look at how someone progressively gets more annoyed they have to make Transformers films to run out his contract. And obligatory GIVE ME YOUR FACE!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah sure, he's the Starscream the other Starscream would beat up for lunch money. But I did like that he was an Igor to Megatron. Sadly, the best Starscream script got relegated to the Nintendo DS Transformers game where he actually conspired against Megatron and would have saved you, the player, from the bad ending.

mass shifting is good but only if it's presented as subtly as possible. I didn't like the mass shifting in a few scenes in ROTB because it was presented as too straightforward and kibbleless, and looked like a downgrade from the first movie.

We need something that seriously explores the potential ramifications of giant alien robots emerging in the mid-1980s. What would the Transformer factions think of the Cold War?
>>
>>147210905

"They WON'T use the nukes? Buncha pussies."
>>
>>147210905
Free missiles for the 'cons. They'd occupy Cuba and the Autobots would try to persuade the Americans and the Cubans that the Decepticons are the ones behind this. Americans can't play ball as easily or the Russians would think they're in cahoots, while Khrushchev would avoid an all-out war over this in the end by flipping a coin and believing the Autobots.
>>
>>147210808
They're definitely good movies. Entertaining popcorn flicks you could watch with your friends who don't really care about Transformers. But, as Transformers movies, they definitely leave a lot to be desired. Good movies, bad Transformers movies.
>>
>>147209902
Humans and Earth ars an integral part of the appeal.
>>
>>147209902
Skybound Shockwave was better than most Shockwaves, and I say this as someone whose favorite Transformer is Shockwave. Having him actually act like a real mad scientist was fun, and I hope it continues forward. He can still follow logic above all else, but he doesn't have to actually be cold and calculating all the time (especially if Soundwave's also cold, calculating, and doesn't express any strong emotions). Being a logic-oriented individual doesn't necessarily mean the character has to deny all forms of emotion and be serious all the time.
>>
>>147209902
In would have preferred if they kept Sheila Boof and Megan Foxx as the main humans.
>>
>>147210955
I've always thought "The Cuban Missile Crisis was a Decepticon plot" is a great idea and would make great fodder for a limited comic series. Hell, it's standard Decepticon practice in some continuities to cause a host-planet's advanced civilization to self-destruct before strip-mining it for Energon, and when did human civilization come closer to self-destructing than October 1962?

I know X-Men did it already with First Class but Transformers could do it too.
>>
>>147211050
I agree with this. Shockwave is at his most interesting when he does have emotion but still works by cold logic. My ideal Shockwave is like Megatron's loyal vizier, praising him and giving advice like the G1 cartoon, but if something were to happen to Megatron, it wouldn’t bother him similar to the G1 comic. Besides, it’s always more logical to be the second in command, if things go wrong, the first in command always takes the blame
>>
>>147209902
The Bay movies are bad

>>147210309
beast wars and bumblebee movie (just the designs) are the only great things in the franchise

I think we need to see more of the Dinobots, not less. Give them their own book.

And I want them all to be dangerous retards, or at least all of them talk like retards. I don't like the idea that only Grimlock does the "me Grimlock" thing and they say it's because of a glitch in his vocal processor or that it's an affectation but deep down he's really super smart.

I also don't like the origin where Shockwave experimented on them. I don't like them being a Combiner, either.

Maybe have Skylinx be their transportation/tard wrangler, and a lot of their stories are bookended by Skylinx dumping the Dinobots on a problem and then showing up after they've blown up everything.
>>
>>147209902
Beast Wars should've been a full on AU instead of having any connection to G1
>>
>>147209902
Its really hard to do anything with the Transformers license for some reason
>Initial introduction/ coming out sequence of events
>Decepticons have a super weapon/ tough new guy
>Autobots get a super weapon/ tough new guy
>Unicron
>Humans CAN be useful afterall
>Death of Optimus/ All-Spark hand off
>Cybertron flashback war stories
That's basically it. Zany oddball shit like Beast Wars is fantastic and ends up being massively rewarded but for some reason, the willingness to try weird shit just isn't there.

bumblebee is terrible and hideous and killing him is a mercy

He said re-release, not pirate.
>>
Transformers was best when it was constantly reinventing itself. Marvel, Sunbow, JPG1, Beast Wars and Machines, JPBW, Car Robots, Dreamwave, Micron Legend and Super Link, Galaxy Force, Bay 1-3, BBM, Animated, IDW1 (minus the Costa and Barber runs), the High Moon games, and Rescue Bots are ALL the best TF media.
They each took the base concept and, often, completely adapted it to entirely different genres, and that's fucking awesome. There is no such thing as "true TF". Complaining that one version "sucks" because it's "not a true adaptation" is a retarded criticism for TF specifically.
TF's at its worst when it's just recycling what's been done before but lamer, like Prime, Earthspark, or Skybound.

Also all the anime dubs suck and I'm sick of the shitty Energon dub ruining Super Link's reputation in particular. SL rules. RiD2001/Armada/Cybertron dubs suck p bad too, though.

>>147211050
I hated him, he was just evil and psycho for its own sake and didn't have anything actually compelling to him, and then he went out like a chump. "mwahaha look at me killing these sea animals, see how DERANGED and REMORSELESS I am??"
It's just an extremely lazy way of making a villain that the reader would immediately hate. Just like how all of Skybound TF's writing is extremely lazy and not planned ahead.

On this note, I really like Marvel's Shockwave specifically because he's actually *not* constantly emotionless logic - he wants everyone to believe that, and it's his own personal standard he wants to live to, but in practice, he's frequently falling into genuine rage. I think that's pretty compelling.

>>147212484
Printed on newsprint that's using the shitty digital remaster everyone hates, don't even bother. Either download the og scans, or buy the old 2000s collections by Titan (also UK never got collected in full by anyone).

>>
>>147212507

>>
>>147212543
That wasn't me, I'm a different anon.
To be fair, I also want a good rerelease though. I hate reading digitally. I just hate terrible scans with fucked up colors, muddy lines, and entirely missing backgrounds even moreso, though.
>>
>>147212555
NTA, but that sounds awful. Where did you hear they were using that version?
>>
>>147210049
The problem is that the bots are too tall. They should compact the parts a little more to allow for more pratical camera angle.
>>
>>147212564
Well, there's a chance it could be a unique scans still. I could just be talking out my ass. Sorry, I was certain I'd heard it definitively confirmed somewhere.
However, consider:
>Skybound's reprint of TF (US) #1 used the same digital remaster
>Skybound's compendium AND Kickstarter-backed hardcover for G.I. Joe used the same digital remasters that have always been around for it since the 2000s (though Joe's quality is not in the same poor position as TF).

Could Skybound create brand new remasters/scans of Marvel TF for the compendium? Eh, maybe? Would be nice. But, it's also intentioned as a really cheap paperback release, and they've demonstrated that they've no issues using this version already, so I heavily doubt it.
Basically let's just wait for reviews to come out, I guess.

As a general rule, I really like the idea that "Decepticons strip-mine planets for their Energon" and I think it should be a standard feature of the Cons as a faction in 'normal' Transformers stories. Tearing whole planets apart to get at their Energon reserves is a great villainous act, a behavior that signifies "these are the bad guys." And the Decepticons need things like that. You're not supposed to forget that they're the villains of the story, and that them winning is a good thing to prevent.

I know it's part of the old IDW continuity, but I think it's been used in a few other universes, as well. I've always thought it was a nice touch and made the Cons a true galaxy-wide threat, and consequently gave the Cybertronian Civil War a bit wider of a scope.
>>
>>147212714

>>

>>147209902
Dunno if this is controversial, but I think having gendered transformers isn't a bad thing. It only gets bad when writers call attention to it by adding retarded reasons for WHY they have genders. Sure, it doesn't make logical sense for shape-shifting alien robots to be male or female. But as long as the story don't go out of its way call attention to the fact that it doesn't make sense it's perfectly acceptable to me.
