I've been reading this comic forever out of habit but I really hate Dan's writing style. It's like he has to spell out the minutiae of everything super specifically for his retarded audience. If you already have that text on the site, there is NO EXCUSE to repeat exposition in the comic to the degree that EGS does. Dan has all of the tools at his disposal to do this right, but he's not USING them correctly. Its obvious. Do it like this:Does it progress the main story of the comic or character arcs? Put it in the comic. Advance the plot. Zappy fun, dumb anime fights, immortal bullshit. Is it information that is elaboration on things related to whats going on, or reminder text? Put it in the paragraphs below the comic page, don't waste panels on it unless its relevant to current or near future events. Autism release valve. Is it information that doesn't directly advance the main story, but you strongly feel is worth showing anyway or has a visual element to it? Thats what NP is for. Sidequests and side characters go here, NOT "what if X media but with my characters in them!" Those are one-note jokes with no legs on them, already stale before you've even really started them. Ellen Demo good, fallout and Pokemon jokes bad. PUT THE GODDAMN CARD GAMES IN NP, NOT THE MAIN COMIC. Thats how you do this sort of thing.

That would imply that the Moperville schools were at least partially rooted in Dan's own experience with schooling. At the time of this thread, something like 16 years have passed and now Dan's main social avenues are his readership and the wider internet. Now Moperville represents the community of EGS patreon supporters/readers and the things they and Dan value. I don't mind how Dan wants to run his comic, but it's very jarring how much has changed even though not much time has passed in-universe. Normally, I'd say it would be funny if it turned out one of the internet trolls calling people fags was actually just a genuinely malicious adult who lived in Moperville, but a character like that couldn't exist without being reduced to a strawman since it would be too incongruent with current EGS values.
