Like yeah I understand it's more of a "proof of concept" sort of deal that's more meant to show off what they could do, but I feel like if their intention is to get Homestuck into more of a general audience you're still gonna have to handhold them far more through Act 1 and it's boatload of concepts. Things like the Narrator and title drops being something in-canon are cute ideas, but John shooing them away don't really work when you're also trying to set up world building. More significance should be given towards some key items, like Colonel Sassacre's or Grandma's ashes, but they're just there. For anyone who hasn't read already, Sassacre's is just a heavy book. On the other hand, keeping small touches like the isometric angles for shots in John's Room are nice. The John and Rose conversation was nice showcasing some of the stuff Rose did parallel to her conversation with John (Hiding her gift for John, playing a haunting violin refrain, looking out at the SkaiaNet lab, etc). Scripting wise it did a decent job at taking Hussie's pesterchum logs and translating them to actual conversations, though the Vivziepop influence with the slight increase of FUCKs thrown in is pretty evident. Yeah the beta kids curse, but not to this degree.Overall a decent 7/10. It did a somewhat okay job of cramming the first 100 pages or so of the comic into 11 minutes, but I feel that there's definitely room to grow if they went for 22 minute episodes with more room to breathe.

It's difficult to capture the 2009 Internet feel when that time is more than a decade behind us. I don't like the voices either, very much prefer the "Let's Read Homestuck" voices. I don't think they did a good job integrating the sylladex and other meta elements into the cartoon format.

I don't know why they only made it 11 minutes, but starting the pilot with the asteroid appearing in space, cutting to the carpacian's screen, having the carpacian type the first command, cutting to John, then proceeding as normal, cutting out all of the vocal explanations of things in-universe and showing them diagetically, and finally ending the episode with Karkat looking at the timeline, seeing John entered, seeing the Scratch, and smashing his keyboard, would have been much better than this.Instead, they treated the audience like idiots, wasted precious time explaining the fetchmodus, and cut too many of the items that would later become important for the pilot to lead to anything recognizable.
