been curating out stuff I don't care about/crap. I'm a lot happier with my collection than I used to be. its easier to pick from these days.
>>151121803I'm not defending OP but...>>About a half dozen Millar books including freaking WantedI only see 3. Hyperbole isn't warranted.>>Azbats BatmanIt's more peculiar to only see the final portion of a much longer storyline but I just assumed the rest was out of frame. Azbats was interesting from the perspective that DC editorial showing the fans a more edgy 90's Batman character during the heyday of these types of stories and "subtly" showing the audience why it doesn't work.>>DC's Finest instead of Batman Year 1 Ten Nights of the Beast and Killing Joke as individual tradesHow is this a criticism? DC Finest restored the original colors to "Killing Joke" and the last time "Ten Nights..." had a standalone trade was 1996. I'd prefer an omni but DC Finest is fine enough.>>Shitty X-Men crossovers (mutant massacre, FOTM, Age of X)Mutant Massacre was okay.>>Random Legion tradesYeah... odd to only have part 2.That seems to be a theme with OP's collection... Legion 2, Swamp Thing 3, Crossing Iron Man, late stage Cap, Authority 2, Batman Knightquest, JLA Detroit, Ultimates 2 part 2.Damn... is this rage bait? Start a fucking story OP!
>>151122191Before the Darkness 1 pretty much sold out on its release so I would assume OP never got a chance to buy it and had to settle for part two, which is still in print.
>>151122191The Millar books the poster sees are Big Game, Wanted, Authority Book 2, and Ultimates 2 V2. So technically the four books by Millar
Is the Plasko Swamp Thing run worth reading? Keep getting told that the last couple of issues are important to setting up the Moore run but nothing about the start of the run...
Given that the Masterwork line is now dead, will prices start going down on the secondary market? Been wanting to to get into it for several books but prices for some of the volumes are just to freaking insane...
>>151122681It's not important at all.
>>151121533Why do you always make these threads when I'm between orders.
>>151122681Plasko introduces Liz Tremayne (crappy spelling), who basically is "what if Sarah Jane Smith gets driven bat shit insane and turned into a lesbian by a MRA psycho". That and the last couple of issues set up the Moore run, with Matt and Abby returning, Matt's Psychic powers being established, and was the first person to write Arcane as being a big themed mad scientist. It's worth reading IMHO and a lot of the stuff from the Moore run will seen hollow without the context from the Plasko run
>>151122714>Given that the Masterwork line is now dead, will prices start going down on the secondary market?HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA, GOOD ONE!
Are any of the early X-Men crossovers any good? Any recommendations?
>>151122262Just seems like OP only buys the follow up books to better series. If you miss the boat each time... maybe change your gameplan.>>151122667I must have missed one. Yeah, all mediocre books.>>151122714The opposite. When titles go OOP they only get more expensive.
>>151124083>Are any crossovers any good?No.
>>151124083Mutant Massacre is the first and really only one of worth. Fall of the Mutants had almost no structure, just a bunch of barely connected vignettes. Inferno was... interesting but kind of ruined Cyclops for a lot of fans. X-tinction Agenda was dull. Muir Island was a mess. X-Cutioner's Song was okay... better than it had any right to be. Fatal Attractions is really only memorable for the climax. Phalanx was awful.
>>151123447Ive seen a few pop in at ollies
>>151122101Cool
Yeah for superficial cosmetic damages and massive discounts. Just over 20 bucks
>>151122262Man I wish I got into legion sooner. really hoping DC puts out more finests soon.

Please die.
>>151124083Asgardian War and Xnticion Agenda are pretty good and have great artwork from Jim Lee, Paul Smith, and Art Adams
>>151121533Op, what floppies do you have on that shelf?
Some recent purchases.Currently reading Swamp Thing by Moore for the first time, I heard about the return of Arcane years before, but it was still surprising to me, also I enjoyed the issues with Etrigan, always nice to see him pop up in books.I am also reading the Bendis Ultimate Spider-Man, I got the urge to finally finish it after showing my nephew the video game. I'm still mad about how Gwen dies, she just moves in with May and Peter and doesn't really do much until the lead-up to her death. I think she could have replaced JJJ as the human antagonist after his slight change of heart in the second Kingpin arc. Also, I have been reading Daredevil by Ann Nocenti, really loved that issue with Mephisto in the bar. If the second half of this run ends strong, I would place this run in my top 3 Daredevil runs.
>>151127608more info on that spiderman pickup? I've been trying to find some spiderman stories to grab but it seems like he doesnt have many TPB sized storylines. I'm afraid to shoot for a random omnibus.
>>151127782That one deals with Harry Osborn in a big way. I passed on it myself because I think I already have too many Spidey books but I heard it sold out really quickly because marvel is shit at printing enough stock.
>>151125636Same boat. I'm actually having an easier time digging up old singles.
>>151127884I think that's what makes a lot of this annoying. There's so many trades and epics I need to fill the gaps that go for sky high but are really cheap to just get the issues.
>>151127782It's the famed DeMatties run with the death of Harry Osborn
Anyone got a reading order for 00s X-Men? Local thrift story recently got in a huge collection of 00s era Marvel shit that was donated from a local dead guy's collection including a ton of X-Men trades
>>151128618The only thing you really need to know is that there is a MASSIVE (about four years worth of stories) that take between Astonishing X-Men #12 and #13. Pretty much everything from UXM #444/X-Men #157 through X-Men #203/UXM #490 and five major crossovers (House of M, Decimation, Civil War, Anhiliation, World War Hulk) take place between those two issues/V2-3 of Astonishing X-Men.
>>151121533>ordered vampire chevalier>checked on the order and it's late, not sure if it will even come in, asked to confirm if i even still want it and clicked yeswtf why
>>151121533Recent gets, mostly manga but PAD Supergirl wooo
>>151129123I heard good things bout PAD Girl so I go it too. Always liked his marvel stuff. Though there is a part of me that's a disgusted with how he was treated then and that they're putting his work out NOW. Dude deserved better,
>>151129400This applies to pretty much the entire industry, the companies fucked everyone over
>>151129447Sometimes it's really hard to be a comics fan when you know just how awful the industry really is.
What's the best version of Crisis on Infinite Earth's to buy?
>>151129896Probably the early printings; newer printings stuck the History of the DC Universe mini into the collection as an awkward epilogue to the whole thing
>>151128724It's weird how those books just aren't easily available physically
>>151127608Is The 'Nam a good read?
>>151129896The absolute edition is getting a new printing next year if you want a big fancy version.
>>151130393Not really.
I was going to ask when the Shade omnibus was coming out but apparently it's out. I know I've been busy but I still kept track of these threads... oh well. Gonna order it now.
>>151130738Is that Shade stuff any good
>>151131439Yeah, if you like that kind of stuff.
>>151130738>>151131714Is the interior art like the cover?
>>151131912Only one issue is drawn by Brendan McCarthy. Chris Bachalo is the main arist and he develops his style aross the run so it's fun to see his evolution and starting around issue 20 it's the best it's ever looked. Most if the other fill ins are also good except for a handful but even those aren't awful.
People don't seem to be buying much.

>>151133005There was was a crooked anonWhose sense of balance was just goneThe collection was greatBut warped from the weightand is now just remembered in song
>>151131439Not really. It's super early Peter Milligan, woke as fuck (one of the first arcs is about a woman getting crap for loving a black man), transgenderism heavily pitched as the future, and lots of "America is racist and evil" from a writer who only became famous due to American comic book fans. And that's not counting the ending controversy; where #50 is the real ending and Milligan being forced to undo said ending and churn out a half assed continuation that was so bad it got the book cancelled.
Did some dollar bin diving and got some good pulls. Very excited to read through the Kubert Green Beret books>>151130393The Michael Golden issues are golden>>151133206>super early Peter MilliganHe was writing comics for 15 years by then, retard
>>151133206Not surprised to see such a bone headed, dimwitted take.
>>151130393Starts out decent but the series quickly became stuck trying to keep popular characters around and alive and the G infamous Punisher the 'Nam years that were designed to try and boost sales. The whole thing ultimately has no ending (it was supposed to wrap up with the fall of Saigon) and the writer infamous gave a huge rant in the 90s basically shitting all over Marvel for yanking it from the newstands and making it direct market only early in the run for while sales collapsed on it, as it was a huge seller in the early days
>>151129896Zenith Phase 3
>>151129896The DC Finest versions will probably be the most complete but I don't know how many volumes it will take and when they'll all be out
>>151133709So are DC's Finest like Marvel's Epic collections that they'll be released pretty randomly instead of collecting one series in order one release after another? Like what's their tactic here?
Got a couple of new Big Greens for my /a/ shelf over the weekend, if that counts
>>151134242yes though I think DC does it a bit better because they order by year rather than volume number. The thing about western comics is that very often you really don't need to read volume 1 to understand volume 27. Hell a lot of readers will probably have very different levels of nostalgia. So I think DC is a bit smarter this way were someone can go "I want Batman from 1985 because that's when I read it" and they won't have a giant volume number reminding them how incomplete things are
>>151132674Last big purchase I got was Superman triangle 2 but for a lot of things I'm kind of wrapping up what I want to collect
>>151135123I can't imagine what that feels like.
>>151135297Feels nice. Not as perfect as I'd like it to be but I'm pretty comfortable with it.
Debating on getting the Superman World's at War prelude omnibus. I really wish they followed the Triangle mapping style instead of this headache event style.

>>151136525I wish I had a second hand book store
>>151132674Not much to buy.
>>151136130Doesn't the OWAS Prelude Omnibus have President Lex, Emperor Joker, and Brainiac 13 arcs in full?
>>151136525Really debating on getting these 2 on top of my current stack
>>151137795I'm mostly curious how it tracks with the recent City of Tomorrow compendium

>>151138018>One Book FreeI find that suspect
>>151136853>>151138018It's pretty comfy. The majority of the wall is all graphic novels from Marvel, DC, Image, Vertigo, Dynamite, IDW, Valiant, and miscellaneous stuff. >>151137946It's the greatest hits version of post JOSS Superman for those just curious about the era. IIRC it only has the opening Loeb arc that introduces Inperialax, the Brainiac 2000 arc that introduces Brainiac 13 and sees Lex sell his daughter to him for future tech, the President Luthor arc, and everything OWAW related leading up to Kansas getting nuked. No Emperor Joker
I'm really hoping there's some decent black friday sales this year but I'm not holding my breath. I swear it's like deep discounts just stopped existing.
>>151129400The only good stuff about PAD Supergirl was the first nine issues, which is the initial arc that OAD pitched when Supergirl was supposed to be a mini.Everything after the first arc was PAD making shit up as he went along and it kept getting more and more convoluted until DiDio put his foot down, killed the book and ordered a version of Pre Crisis Supergirl introduced to end the farce of the various not Supergirls...

>>151145813NTA, sorry I missed that one. I’ve kinda given up on /co/. Every thread turns into something like Thanksgiving dinner when you have relatives who won’t stop arguing about something nobody else wants to talk about. Fwiw, I am indifferent to the existence of comics like those in your OP, and, aside from the Corben stuff, BPRD is better than Hellboy. Kmhdx
>>151146422Nexus Omnibus V1. I got it through the KS, but I think you can still preorder it through Baron’s website.
>>151141901I’d say the start of his Hulk run was a pretty egregious offense. It’s my understanding that it gets better later, but it starts rough. Waiting 20 or so issues to wrap up the Ground Zero plot after the Hulk vanished, for instance, was a serious fumble.
>>151146660Yeah, /co/ is all meat and potatoes capeshit these days.
>>151146660That's alright. It's all my fault. I've been here a long time, so I should know when it's best to post certain threads and how to make them more appealing. I'm thinking of going away for a while and doing a bunch of research. As for those comics, I don't like all of them, but appreciate the type. Post-Bronze Age, it's the direction I think all superhero comics should have gone. With a mainstream output that's somewhat at the level of those, we'd probably be reading some good non-cape stuff today, something I can't even imagine.
>>151121533Are we /k/ coded here?
>>151147096And it’s mostly current stuff, which is better than nothing. I say that because there seems to be more interest in that stuff than there was a few years ago and it’s a base to build on… maybe.
>>151147142>Good non-cape stuff.I feel like there’s a lot of this out there, but that’s absolutely a matter of taste.
>>151147339/co/ feels very apathetic compared to 10-12, 20 years ago.
>>151146772I mean, it's Hulk, why would you expect quality.
>>151141901The whole thing where he kept demanding Xfactor be an even shittier version of Excalibur that never interacted with the greater X-Men universe and where he would be allowed to hold Wolfsbane, Havok, Polaris, and Quicksilver hostage in a Chuck Austen tier hell of banality and beastiality jokes
>>151147643Ignoring the greater X universe can only lead to improvement >Wolfsbane, Havok, Polaris, and Quicksilver Yeah because those characters were just overflowing with potential till he got at them. Seriously. Polaris.
>>151147578I’ve only been here since 2009, so I’m a newfag, but it is definitely less interesting than it was then. >>151147632I was young and foolish; further, I thought Todd’s art was rad.

>>151147726>Green hair>Big tits>Magnets, how the fuck do they work? There’s some potential there.
>>151147757Totally understandable, as I said, it’s a matter of taste. What sort of thing would you like to see? That’s an actual question, btw, not a prelude to shit-flinging.
>>151147802I see no other way to respond honestly other than "good comics".
>>151147777>There’s some potential there.Sure, sure but Lorna has basically been completely underutilized since she was introduced
>>151147533Not enough. I like plenty of comics, but the reality is that we're still only scratching the surface.

>>151150012Titan has the rights now and they are continuing the line where Marvel left off. They wanted to make the transition as smooth as possible, so they kept all the logos and the format largely the same.
>>151147726I think the issue is that one of the reasons people hate PAD is that they want Xfactor to be as important as X-Men and Xforce, Lorna and Alex as a power couple, Rhahne interacting with Xforce, and Quicksilver being a dad and interacting with Crystal, Wanda, and his fellow Avengers. Not having the team stick in limbo, garbage send ups to garbage writer Steve Gerbers garbage elf with a gun gag, and Rhahne being reduced to a horny wolf mutant that just wants to fuck Alex

>>151138018That looks nice, but I'm not paying 200 dollaridoos at a used bookstore.

>>151145813I skipped your thread in the catalog, I thought it was a recommendation thread.
I picked up some n52 Justice League trades. They were okay I suppose. Pretty smash your toys together action focused and the whole thing got a real "Heroes Reborn" vibe that I do not care for. Jim Lee on art was nice but he didn't save Fantastic Four he ain't saving this.

>>151152423>Otto von Todt
>>151131439It starts off decently enough, but after the second arc dealing with the "American Nightmare" (sans Cody), Milligan starts to lose the thread and just goes full on weird. And not the interesting kind, just boring. And this is the same guy who penned a zero issue for the Red Lanterns with fucking Eldritch elements ala Clive Barker that might be one of the best single issue comics that I've ever read
I saw a bunch of comic books (TPBs) in a charity shop, Krakoa era X-Men, bought them all for a very cheap price. I've read most of the Claremont run, the Morrison and Whedon stuff, and that Messiah War event. I wanted to see where X-Men had gotten to, especially considering the amount of kvetching anons did over the Krakoa era. Boy was some of that stuff just weird.
>>151152534I think it also got a page decrease? It was originally supposed to have the first fifty issues but now the page count is around 736 I think? If that was the case, why not just do it as a DC Finest or a compendium?Problem is that they're still listing it was originally
>>151152858Shrinkflation.They might even release it with thin paper.
>>151152858>Problem is that they're still listing it was originallyThe original page count/number was just a rumour and not an official solicit. 736 is not a bad page count for an omni. Of course they will be bad on price because they always do that.>Volume 1 collects 1st Issue Special #8 and The Warlord #1-36, with a brand-new introduction and painted, wraparound cover by Grell.Although with 133 issues to collect (plus more if they want) I don't necessarily see this getting to the 4 volumes it might need.
I keep seeing pics of that Ostrander Spectre Omni and starting to think holding out for Finest was a mistake. Same deal with the Question omnis
>>151153038I think they're mainly collecting Grell's run (he announced roughly two omnis I think?). The book lasted long after he stopped writing it
>>151153038The real issue is if they only collect the issues Grell actually wrote, as the last two years of his "run" wwre ghost written by his wife.
>>151152858>It was originally supposed to have the first fifty issues but now the page count is around 736Warlord was weird in that a part of the book had back up stories. If it's omitting those then a lower page count isn't weird.

I'm here again. Are you guys tired of my shelf? I've had the 3 Invincible compendiums in softcover for years. Considering getting the hardcovers as a Christmas gift to upgrade. Worth it? But I also saw they're doing an omnibus in April that has the same material as the first compendium plus the Marvel Team Up issue with Spider-Man. Not sure if I should wait. I do have the trade that has that Team Up issue though. I also need to take a new pic. This is almost 2 years old.
