>>151481594These have always started on Black Friday, but usually earlier than now. Very pleased to see we made it in time still.
Greetings, spooks and spookettes! Nice to finally see the thread up. Regretably, I am busy this weekend, but my friends have arranged some streams in the meantime.Currently streaming Grandma Got Run Over.Stream Link: cy(delete this part)tu(DOT)be(slash)r(slash)SkeletalStreamer
>>151481852I usually come towards the end of the first thread for some reason or another, its my first time being in the celebratory beginning. How was everyone's year?
>>151481914It was a waking nightmare until the last quarter, but all is well for the moment. Halloween was over in an even quicker flash than usual, though. I want to make Christmas last as long as possible.
And a sales-ful Black Friday to all! Posting a little late for my taste since everything east of the Atlantic is already on Saturday, but hey, as long as it's Friday somewhere. This year, I decided to do something kinda roundabout. Since almost every day is some sort of a national holiday somewhere (a lot of Independence Days, some Republic Days and some other ones) - and even when there aren't any, I can always stretch the truth somewhat - I decided to each day focus on one such country and investigate what their unique Christmas/New Year/Winter Solstice traditions might be. Note that the traditions will usually not be related to the day I post them on, which is why I called the whole thing "roundabout".
>>151482245As far as November 28th goes, there's three countries celebrating their Independence Day today. Mauritania, however, is a Muslim country near the equator, so there won't be very many traditions related to Christmas or Winter. Albania has some, but today I chose to focus on Panama.Which kind of showed the limits of only doing research through internet search, because a lot of traditions touted as strictly Panamanian are things even I can recognize as broadly Latin American, like Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe or Las Posadas. Hell, one online tourist guide tried to sell nativity scenes as something you'll only see in Panama. Although to be fair, apparently there's a boatload of them over there.I hope the two traditions I've picked aren't as widespread, but if they are, I'm counting on our LatAm posters to correct me. First one is renovating houses in December. After all, what better way to enter the New Year than with a fresh new coat of paint? The other is Muñecos de Año Viejo. They're life-sized effigies representing the old year, commonly made to look like celebrities or politicians (in pic related one of them is a soccer player since that year Panama finally qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in decades). Made with straw, twigs and other flammable materials, they are put on the sides of roads and then burned down once New Year hits. Which is where the firecrackers also shoved inside them come in - there's no better way to say "Out with the old and in with the new" than with explosions. As for the Christmas spread (the dinner taking place on Christmas Eve evening, before the midnight mass), the centerpiece seems to be roast pork. Other mainstays include ham and/or turkey, arroz con guandú (pigeon peas with rice), bread wreath and nana's tamales, best in the land. And fruit cake for dessert.
Merry Squidmas fuckers. I missed you guys

Merry Christmas to all, may the jannies all get coal shoved up their stockings for trying to pogrom the thread off the board last year. And may this year be pleasant to all who carry the spirit of the season in their hearts.
Glad to be back! I hope everyone had a good year, at least in a personal sense. The general state of things at large somewhat precludes a certain level of cheer.
Happy holidays all, hope everyone had a nice meal last night, whether you celebrate the holiday or not.I need to eat something and go get milk (yes, I know that's the wrong order but I felt asleep this afternoon after watching some S4 Stranger Thing I never caught last time around) but I'll put together some story-times for later tonight.

Good morning everyone, I think for the first time ever I'm in thread number 1. How's everyone doing? Having a good year I hope?
Ho ho ho! Hope everyone's year has been great so far or at least more sufferable than the last one. How many leftover turkeys do the US anons have and is anyone willing to send one my way? Some friends sent me their plates on Thursday and I'm still hungryHere's to this year's Cheer being better than last year and that the mods are also onboard with us this time around. Fingers crossed that I can be active this time around given that my notebook is broken and for some stupid reason, /co/ and /toy/ still seem to have an on-and-off IP rangeban on my phone. Btw, any help in that department would be appreciated since this has been going on for at least 2 or 3 months>>151483630Have you had the change to drink some Glühwein and eat Brezel?
I don't know when Elusive will join but I just updated the pastebins on the quick. It's a bit more inconvenient on mobile but I'll try to update them daily if I can (of course help by other regulars would be appreciated)
>>151487103>/co/ and /toy/ still seem to have an on-and-off IP rangeban on my phone.I noticed this with 4chan while phone posting. I think it's the cellular towers and what part of town you are in. I was in a different suburb last week, chasing down a toy collectible as a present for someone and tried to make a post and upload pictures of some collectible figures to /toy/ I found at a close-out store, and got a "you are banned" for "child porn." I was in a different part of the metro area (about two hours from where I live). I have no problem with this phone at home on my WiFi, only while out and about. And I have no problems on my laptop. I've also been using DuckDuckGo's (free) VPN browser on this Android phone, so I don't think 4chan is actually tracking my hardware but tracking what IP signal they are getting from the VPN or from the mobile tower? No clue if that helps you, but look into it.
Yay, tis the season again!>>151481914It's been alright. Many positive developments, and I feel my life is finally starting to get better after years of stagnation. Hope the next year will be even better.
>>151487212It actually started on my laptop that broke. Then, after two weeks, the same thing started happening with my phone as well. Sometimes, switching from wi-fi to regular data helps but it keeps on constantly changing. /toy/ keeps on banning me way more often but the rangeban never has a reason attached to it so they are definitely not acting like I did anything. Still annoyingI'll keep the VPN in mind in case it ends up messing with these threads. So far, I only had the rangeban pop up a few hours ago
>>151487296They have been forcing me to drop my email every time I have to update Firefox (which is usually once a week so my javascript and pop up blockers work, I haven't seen an ad in forever when I stream crap or go to YT or anywhere in years and I intend to keep it that way, even if I am in captcha hell on 4chan 3 to 4 times a month. But I have a burner email account.Maybe when you first start to post, try to use a throwaway email (and use the same email, I noticed their is no longer any delay since I've used the same useless Yahoo account every time I do this)? As far as your laptop being where it started, that sounds like an ISP issue, maybe try resetting the router, if you can?
Ah to hell with it, I'm not going to let last year totally sour me yet. Another chance at redemption!Been a long year but not an altogether bad one. Had my downs, had my ups, but I can't complain; Ol' Snowy elopedWishing my friends here the very best as we enter the holliest and jolliest time of year! And for those in the US, enjoy the little snow being flung across the last few days!

>>151487686>spoilerCongratulations!
>>151487756It's also not animated or even really a special but Fitzwilly is such an underrated and charming Christmas movie. I first caught it airing on the day about a decade ago (this never gets easier) while channel surfing for background noise during that Christmas afternoon lull, but I grew more and more invested in it. Now I have at least two heist movies in the mix.Simultaneously closer to and farther away from the prompt: the first level of Gex 3, Totally Scrooged. Oh, is The Looney Tunes Show's Christmas special considered underrated? That was my favorite one I watched last year.

I cant be with my family again this year for Christmas for shitty reasons. I'm debating if Christmas cartoons will cheer me up or bum me out. I think I might watch it's a Wonderful Life to finally know where all those fucking episodes about people seeing what the world would be like if they were dead came from. Maybe it's not too late for Nightmare Before Christmas. Thanks for reading my blog

Hello to all! Hope the year wasn't too bad for anyone.I did my A Levels in Math and English, a bit disappointed with my results (Pure Math 3 lowered my average, I'll bet), and more disappointed that there's no way to get any feedback to know what I could've done better. But since people here are about to start ordering a lot of things to gift their relatives, let me regale you woth my tale of woe. It happened in 2024, so I could've done it last year, but then I wouldn't be able to bring it to a satisfying conclusion.First of, for context, I'm a Pole currently stealing jobs in the UK, and I keep most of my suff I don't regularly use (like most of my /co/llection) in my old room so as not have to bother with transporting it all once I decide to go back.Back in 2024 I went on a little bit of a /toy/ kick, buying up all the Lego sets I've had my eye on (pic related) since I finally had the money to do so. Optimus was easy, since he was still relatively new, although later I found it about £10 cheaper. The Home from Home Alone is abig, cumbersome order, too much so to be brought on board a plane, and too fragile to travel in a cargo hold, but I found it pretty cheap from a seller on Bricklink (which is like a Lego-specific ebay). I ordered it in such a way that it would have arrived while I was visiting, and so I would be able to collect it myself... If it actually arrived on the estimated date, or within a week or so of it. In the end, it finally showed up after I've already gone back to the UK, the delivery guy didn't even bother knocking/ringing and I had to send the family to the local pick-up place, where they had to use the text messages to prove they actually represent me, the recipient.
>>151490103The worst part though was the other two sets - Metalbeard's ship from The Movie and the Friends' Apartments from Friends, both long since discontinued and not available in normal stores. I found both from a seller in South Korea, and foolishly picked the cheapest shipping option. What was supposed to be 10-to-12 weeks (worst case, it would've arrived during the same visit as the Home Alone Home), actually took five months (with absolutely no info between when they arrived at the Busan port and when they reached Poland), and then they were stopped at customs due to their value as imports from outside the EU. And to get them through, I would have to either hire a third party to confirm whatever, learn the ins and outs of being an importer to deal with all of it myself, or - the "easiest" option - show up in person at any post office and authorise the Polish Post Service to do it in my name. Minor problem though - obviously the Polish Post Service only has offices in Poland. I managed to plead with the customs to keep the parcels in their warehouse for a bit longer than the month or so before they'd send them back to Korea, booked the first plane tickets to and from whatever Polish city that were reasonably cheap coming off of the Holiday/Winter season, booked a holiday at work for that day and delivered a signed authorization (and just to twist the knife, the post office I picked to go to was in an uproar because of one postman's very free-spirited way of dating undelivered mail). After that, my Lego sets arrived on the next day, or the day after, with an additional 20% custom fees slapped on (which came to about $150). But at least now I have all the Lego sets I ever wanted. I was wondering about buying the new Enterprise-D that just came out for my brother, as a Christmas/Birthday gift (early January), but not for that price.
>>151490103>>151490120Wow. Glad you got all your sets after all that crap.
>>151490120>>151490103I'm a millenial. Our first snowfall literally just started as I read your post and you reminded how much I loved 90s Lego especially Ice Planet 2002. I also had Artic sets which were basically kid The Thing and I would take all these winter themed guys with me everywhere outside when I was playing in the snow and warm them off by the fireplace when I came back. (Kid logic lol.) Ice Planet is still one of my favourite things to this day. A few years ago I bought a bunch of mini gigs from bricklink (old sets get too expensive.)
>>151490428OH AND FUCKING KOPAKA WAS THE COOLEST SHIT. I had all the DC comics up to a certain point

>>151484768Desu slow for anyone else?
>>151490428For me it was the late 90s UFO sets, although the biggest one I had was this one, apparently "only" 52 pieces.
>>151487756I don't know about underrated but after been put off b them for a while, I wouldn't mind a stream of some of the old stop motion animations from my childhood. >>151487686>spoilerCongrats>>151489245>the usual puzzlesI might do a contest again but I suppose it will need to be run in plus, so to speak.
>>151490103>>151490120Damn, glad you got them after all that bullshit
>>151482245>>151482263Awesome to see you, CM - glad you're still finding new ways to keep things fresh!
>>151490103>although later I found it about £10 cheaper.that's always the kicker with some things; I saw the Iron Giant Deluxe action figure at a chain big box department store in their "adult collectors" section (it's a Super7 toy if you want to look it up) but thought a 7" toy when I already have a much nicer giant version of him, for about the same MSRP, was absurd. After sleeping on it, I decided I could afford to treat myself, what else am I going to spend my money on? But it was gone and I haven't seen it at other similar, branches of this chain big box. Crapazom put it on sale a few weeks back and I snagged it for $10 less!PIC REL is the one I own, $39.99, bought from one of my local LCSs, since it's a Diamond Select exclusive before they went all bankrupt. Glad you got yourself sorted. Shame you couldn't find the one you wanted while you were in the UK.
November 29th is Unity Day in Vanuatu, and also the birthday of William Tubman, Liberia's longest-ruling president. But today I'm picking Albania, which celebrates its Liberation Day - unlike yesterday's >>151482263 Independence Day, established during World War 1, today celebrates driving out Germans at the tail end of WW2. Best thing is, both days are public holidays. Imagine - last year, when it fell on Thursday and Friday, Albanians enjoyed a four day weekend.Anyhow, Albania doesn't actually really celebrate Christmas much - partially because only about a third of the population is actually Christian (Catholic and Orthodox) with twice as many Muslims, and partially because of the State-Enforced Atheism during the Commie regime killed any notion of celebrating religious holidays. But they couldn't really touch New Year celebrations, so that's mostly when families gather, feast and exchange gifts. Speaking of feasts, Albania is one of the countries where they enjoy their roasted turkey, as well as byrek (or burek, or maybe börek), a savory pie with a spiral-shaped crust, apparently with a walnut and bean filling, according to one source (although with so many recipes with so many different fillings, I'm starting to think it's just their version of pie), traditional Albanian dishes like Tavë Kosi or Tavë Krapi (lamb and rice or carp casseroles), Baklava for dessert and Rakia to get shitfaced on.Although it has to be pointed out that apparently over the last decade or so, the globalized, consumer-friendly version of Christmas has been making headway in the country. There's also some traditions going back to pagan times, related to Winter Solstice and centered around Buzmi Bujar - a literal yule log (often specifically walnut, it's an important crop), sometimes given offerings and almost always burned for a good harvest the following year. Ashes are also sometimes spread among fruit trees. Makes sense, they enrich the soil and lower its pH.
>>151491399Thanks, it gives me something to do the other 11 months of the year.
Might as well kick off the first thread with a classic Carl Barks story!

Mirliton Casserole is this odd stuffing/dressing thing made from the chayote plant. Real deep south Cajun type ish. You can stuff it like a pepper with cornbread and seafood, or you can shred the chayote and bake it in a dish with a top crust and all that. November 30th is National Day in Benin (:DDDD), but also, more importantly for my designs, Independence Day in Barbados, which is what I'll be focusing on today.Another tropical country, there's a lot of social gatherings, since the weather is perfect for it, unlike in Europe or more northern parts of North America. One is Carols by Candlelight, sang by the Prime Minister's residence, another is the morning Christmas Service in Queen's Garden National Park in the capital city, Bridgetown, where families put on their best clothes to try and style on each other. As for the food, the more traditional dishes include Jug-Jug, which is a hearty stew made from pigeon peas, corn flour, and two or three kinds of meat. Apparently inspired by haggis brought by Scottish immigrants back in the 1600s, which is a crazy coincidence, because November 30th is also St. Andrew's Day, the Patron Saint of Scotland, which is a public holiday over there.Other mainstays include Great Cake, also known as Black Cake, which is a rum-powered version of a fruitcake (here's a song about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bJlL5TRH2w), and Sorrel, a Caribbean hibiscus drink. And on Boxing Day, some people attend horse races, other opt for a picnic.
Got around to sorting my wishlist outDZNIT01A728Went to see the new SpongeBob film today and I really enjoyed it, lots of cool visual gags and jokes for the adult crowd plus the claymation almost looking CGI they've used is really visually appealing
Laptopbro here; I promised a storytime, but it's so big I'll have to break it up. I doubt I need to explain who The Spirit is to you guys, but for anyone who's in the dark (or only knows him from that crappy Frank Miller) he's a crimefighter who mostly spends his time getting the shit beaten out of him by thugs, or being hit on by sexy dames (and plenty of 'em)
Oh, and he has a sidekick called Ebony White. See, back in the Golden Age sidekicks mostly came in two flavors: young lads (your Robins and your Buckys, and so forth) or racial stereotypes. Will Eisner, bless him, decided to split the difference with Ebony, who was... well, he left a complicated legacy.
Don't worry, as time goes on Ebony gets a bit less... well, this. But that's enough for now - I don't want to hog the whole thread.

Alright, my Christmas spooks and spookettes. I want to apologize for how sudden streams may have been, and for the lack of news on such. I was busy all weekend, as I had a very special guest spending Thanksgiving with my family and I, and they took priority, while my friends helped to take care of the streams. Here, you'll find an up-to-date dossier on all the currently planned streams this month. Yes, I know King Kong's not a Christmas movie but fuck it, I wanna stream it as close to the anniversary as I can. As usual with my Christmas and Spooktober streams, these schedules will serve as an anchor post for suggestions for a special stream near the end of the month. Also, please note that we're taking Sunday the 21st off to focus on a friend's birthday. It's been an extremely rough year all around, a lot of stuff has happened that's too personal to discuss here, and it's left me at a crossroads in life. Thankfully, however, it's nothing that I have to choose now, and Christmas can still be the priority. I'm chipping away at my list of friends and family to gift, and at my daily Christmas bingewatching, and I look forward to the season more than ever. I'm extremely excited to share it with you all again.

TONIGHT ON A NOT SO SPOOKY CHRISTMAS STREAMThis first weekend has been a strange one…we began immediately with some lumps of coal, then opened some stocking stuffers, good and bad, old and new. Now, let’s ease into the final stream before December.First, Fat Albert and his friends try to save their clubhouse in a modern retelling of the Nativity, and next, the most elite agents of Santa’s elves, Lanny and Wayne, embark on their first Prep and Landing mission together, to prep kids’ homes for Santa’s arrival. Our movie tonight features an aging St. Nick who reveals his secret…he is one of many Santa Clauses through time, and he needs to appoint his chosen successor before it’s too late. To recruit the next Santa, he’ll need help from the most unlikely source. A nutjob southerner taxicab driver by the name of Ernest P. Worrell. That’s right folks, ERNEST SAVES CHRISTMAS.To conclude our first weekend, first, one of the classic fabels of Aesop is retold with a Christmas dressing. Finally, the Simpsons are left to save Springfield when it is monopolized by a toy company and their marketing for the hottest toy of the season.Stream Link: cy(delete this part)tu(DOT)be(slash)r(slash)SkeletalStreamer

You sunk my Battleship!>Patrick Swayze Christmas>GPC with the nativity scene was honestly pretty sweet, as well as the letter from the coast guard woman. The movie itself, I can't believe I'm saying this, was...OKAY?! Yeah, it has all the filmmaking of a 7-year old, but it still has more charm and craft than even some modern blockbusters. Hey, we've reached December! Technically, the Advent started yesterday (always four Sundays from Christmas), but now nobody can moan about these threads anymore! For December 1st, we're hopping to another Atlantic island, but in a totally different climate. Because while there's a lot to celebrate around the world - Freedom and Democracy Day in Chad, Republic Day in Central African Republic, National Day in Myanmar, Restoration of Independence Day in Portugal, and even Great Union Day in Romania, I chose to focus on Iceland, celebrating Fullveldisdagurinn or Self-Governance Day.And Icelandic Celebrations are as wacky as their spelling. It all starts as early as December 12th, when the first of 13 Yule Lads, sons of the old troll-like crone Grýla, shows up to pull his signature prank and leave some small goodies in children's shoes. The naughty ones can find a rotten potato in there instead. And it continues for another 12 days, as well.Watch out though, if you don't have some new clothes by Christmas Eve, you're liable to get eaten by Grýla's fearsome pet, the Yule Cat.Christmas Eve's Eve is also Þorláksmessa, or Thorlac Thorhallsson Day, the Patron Saint of Iceland. Icelanders mark this occasion by eating Kæst Skata, fermented Skate. Then, on Christmas Eve, after the feast consisting of Hangikjöt, Hamborgarhryggur, Rjúpa, Laufabrauð and Icelandic Christmas cookies, washed down wish Jólaöl, Brennivín or Christmas beers, it's time for Jólabókaflóðið or Book Flood. Since books are a popular gift, publishers often wait until December to release new ones, so you can cozy up with one, and some hot choccy, and start reading with a belly full of lamb.
So is there anyone here who celebrates any other holiday this time of year?
>>151514711I'm jelly, over here in my neck of the North West it's just grey and rainy and altogether sad.
>>151517662Over here in Europe, it has been a sunny 5-10 degrees all day long. Makes a workday far more enjoyable, despite the temperature
>>151514711I never snows in sunny Southern California - but it is cold, I even brought wool gloves with me on this trip to go see a movie. Sadly, afterwards, since I was tired after that, even after a late afternoon mocha with three shots of espresso, I did some shopping at a discount remaindered store, for some socks and slippers (no luck) and for some toys (nothing for presents but something for myself). But I forgot my boxed toy in it's plastic bag on the side of the bench where I was waiting for the couch bus to take me back to my apartment building. I realized it almost immediately, but still had to get off the bus, at that point about 2 miles away, wait for a return bus, and head back to find out that some tweaker or similar had picked up my toy, which had the receipt in the bag. Since it's a credit card purchase, the store will - at most - credit the card back, unless the person can talk the clerk into a merchandise card. It was a loss I can fortunately afford ($9.99), but still annoying, since it's not like it's a toy from a big box merchant that will be easy to find again and replace. And it was colder still after all that back and forth and getting home likely about an hour later than I would have had I not forgotten the bag.

Tonight, I saw Santa '85, the Christmas episode of Amazing Stories. Wide eyed and on the edge of my seat the whole time, as with every time I watch an episode of this show.Y'know what, this is my viewer suggestion. This would genuinely blow everyone away.
>>151529228Weird that they got a Scrooge rival who eats a fancy clothing article after losing and it's not Rockerduck. Either way that was fun, thanks for the storytime
>>151529300A quick bit of Googling says that this story came out in 1958, a good three years or so before Rockerduck ever showed up. Also, the whole "eating hats" bit appears to have been added by Italian comic writers (they fucking love him over there).

December 2nd is National Day over at United Arab Emirates, but we go even further East, to Laos, which celebrates its own Lao National Day.There's just one catch - since Christians make up only about 1.5-2% of the mostly Buddhist population (depending on the source), Christmas isn't really celebrated that much. And since they don't even get a day off for it, different congregations have to pick and choose the day to celebrate based on their members' availability, at least according to a blogpost I found from 10+ years ago. But they would invite local government officials to the festivities, to strengthen ties with the larger community. But that's not all. Unlike the ethnic Laotians, who do it in April, the large Khmu minority (about 11%) celebrate New Year sometime in December or January. "Boun Pod Pi" is all about thanking ancestors for their blessings given last years and asking for renewed ones for the upcoming one. Whether it's through presenting parts of the harvest or tying white strings to wrists. There's also fun and games, like presenting one chosen one's ability to carry a jarful of water using nothing but their mouth (Kharp Hai, pic related), songs and dances, epic stories told by elders, Khmu version of dodgeball or a stilt race. And, of course, there's the feasting: you can try Or-lam, which is a traditional beef stew, or Khao Tom, a sticky rice dish. The Ancestors also want the living to get crunk on traditional Khmu rice whiskey. The Khmu are not the only ones to celebrate - the slightly smaller (about 9%) Hmong minority also has their own New Year celebration, Noj Peb Caug, sometime between late November and mid-December. The Hmong put on traditional clothing (sometimes with a modern flair), the young ones play Pov Pob - which is some kind of half-flirting ball-tossing game, where whoever drops the ball has to gift a trinket to their partner - and thanks are given for a good harvest.

Tonight I saw two shorts:>The Elf on the Shelf: An Elf's StoryThis gets oddly low reviews and I don't know why. I love this and always watch it every December. It's charming, fun, quotable and the songs honestly rock ass, and I genuinely feel if a major singer covered Extravaganzalorious or Christmas is a Time for Forgiveness they would become standards. The acting is also solid and the animation, while limited, is still soulful. Like, it has that early-2010s feel.>Richard Williams' A Christmas CarolIf you asked what the best version of this story is, I'd say it boils down to three answers: Muppets, Scrooged, and THIS PIECE OF KINOGRAPHY. Such beautiful animation and direction in this one. Beautiful art akin to the actual novel. And some of my favorite moments in any Christmas Carol. I like how Past has a younger design but an older voice, plus being in white and in three layers, showing how faded the past can become, and yet, every now and then it can become so clear. Also love the part where Present flies Scrooge across various locations of poor situations, yet the people still keep Christmas in their hearts. It's magical, it's mysterious, it's a work of art. Definitely check this out if you haven't.

>>151543469Sometimes I think Christmas is too early in the winter to serve it's purpose of making the season less bleak. It wears out its welcome within a month and goes on for at least 3. Maybe January 25th would have been better.

>>151543700Carnivale is a thing as well, although that also ends some time before Spring.
December 3rd is the first day where I have to get creative, because there aren't actually any celebrations of a county's history or identity. Luckily, it's the feast of Saint Francis Xavier, who's one of the patron saints of Navarre, one of the autonomous regions within Spain.Unfortunately, the only notable unique traditions I've found about Navarre is that the regional equivalent of Santa is called Olentzero and he's a coal miner coming in from the mountains to spend time with his family - but even then it's more of a Basque thing.Another tradition is "dancing shepherds" during the Christmas Midnight Mass, which is exactly what it sounds like, although I'm not sure they're actual shepherds these days. Even then, it apparently mostly happens in and around Fitero. So let's look at all of Spain. A Catalonian custom is Tió de Nadal, also known as Caga tió, another spin on a "yule log" - an about foot-long slab of wood with a face drawn on and barretina hat, put out on the Feast of Immaculate Conception (December 8th) - you're supposed to keep it warm and fed, and if you do that, on Christmas Eve it'll drop a log of its own - some treats, sweets, trinkets or knick-knacks. Sometimes tchotchkes. Caga tió means "pooping log", after all. That's because the REAL gift-givers are the Three Wise Men, just like in the Bible - on January 6th, their day. They even get huge parades all over the country on the day before.Another, though purely secular, tradition that unites all Spaniards is the Christmas Lottery, taking place on the 22nd - apparently last year they've sold 193 million tickets, so about four times as many as there are citizens in the country, even despite them costing 20€ a pop. But with 5% chance to win something out of the prize pool of literal BILLIONS, and another 10% to at least get your money back, no wonder people flock to it.And if you want luck in the new year, you should eat 12 grapes on midnight on New Years - one for every ring of the bell.
>>151544198Winter is fine, it just definitely loses its spark after the holidays, and it wears out its welcome around mid-February.
