Especially with kinger's brief moment of realization when they say they can leave the circus, like he literally knows that it's impossible because they're all brain scans of idiots who put on the headset in what's most likely just some abandoned building, with kinger probably being a playtester who also has admin privileges, which is why Caine put the darkness modifier on him to prevent him from doing whatever the fuck he wanted.As for Caine himself, he's kind of weird. A lot of what Abel says can actually be seen as partially true, especially Caine's purpose to keep their minds occupied and doing shit. We see Jax starts to abstract when he's alone and thinking about his past and seemingly self reflecting, or accepting the calm state of abstraction.Caine was either modified by Kinger himself or other employees after they realized that minds could abstract and needed to be kept active in order to keep them from abstracting, which is the whole purpose of all of his adventures. Maybe they keep the servers running because they feel a bit bad about all their digital copies they accidentally made, and that's the real horror of the digital circus. It's just some shit their real selves feel mildly guilty over doing and have lax security in a mostly abandoned building running a defunct children's game. The rest of the cast are all people who were stupid enough to put on the headset, or maybe some of them willingly entered hearing rumors about the Digital Circus.

One of the big points of this episode is to demonstrate that Jax is terrified of leaving the circus, so it makes more sense for the initial Abel exposition to be happening from his POV, and it's more impactful if we just get one dump instead of a Pomni dump THEN a Jax dump
I really didn't like this episode, it feels like a character assassination of Caine who was never hinted at having the kind of awareness of the real world and real people needed to actually manipulate all the other players (sans Kinger) into believing that there was really a way out. Especially since episode 1 showed he doesn't even understand what an exit door to the circus is supposed to be like. Everything genuine that happened in his adventures were either due to the players opening up between one another or him ignoring NPC so they gained self-awareness when they went off script. I don't believe at all that he could manage to make a NPC convincing enough to pass as a real boy while following his adventure, especially when almost all the players would constantly drill it with questions. And not to mention commiting to the bit by having the NPC stalk around the circus for at the very least months.Just to be clear I don't mean to say that I think the twist will be "Abel was actually real and Caine just pretended it was all an adventure", I think Caine was genuine when he said that everything that happened was part of his adventure, I think it's purely a writing failure that the character had to gain like deep knowledge on emotional manipulation out of nowhere for the plot to continue, and then at the end immediatly reverts to his wacky "Couldn't fool a blind man into trying shades" personaAlso Caine had absolutely nothing to do with Jax pushing the button and you know it.
Why does Caine fear how he's being perceived? At the end of the day, he's in complete control.

I finally watched the gun episode, didn't know Jax could be that talkative. I concede, it really is the Jax show, he gets the full meal of characterization. And I see Pomni does have personality, I thought it was gonna be forced from the gremlin pics I saw. Or that she was going to be "Jaxpilled" and actually try to mimic his shtick. I wanted the singing to hurry up and be over though.He looked aggravated by Kaufmo's door. Maybe they had bad blood after Ribbit abstracted. I don't think Ragatha's suspicion of him and his pointed sensitivity to said suspicion is out of nowhere. Obviously there was no purposeful corruption, but there was probably something about their relationship that changed Ribbit, and from an outside view that Jax probably tried to encourage at low points afterwards, it came off like he was a bad influence. A real big interpersonal drama ep, no wonder they went full in on the existential and "lore" themes for this one
