Actually it's the right order because as far as we know, Goldface doesn't have any other powers besides shapeshifting and the intel he got from her so far indicates that she's basically a one woman army if left unchecked, so preemptively incapacitating her is the actual only way to be 100% sure he could take her down.

hal is changing to the color pink in #12 so if the cover isn’t just bait it’s probably hal pulling new colors out of his ass to save todd/bring him back to life

Cyan/blue does seem to be coming. The cheating issue had a few blue panels in it. There were also one or two indigo/purpley panels in that same issue.

>Jo = Green
>Guy = Red
>John = yellow
>Hal = pink (or returning to black if Todd is staying dead)
>Todd = black (assuming he isn't staying dead)

>Alan = implied to be dead
>Simon = a fed
>Kyle = "pretty high" odds of appearing

>>
oooh another hater, so edgy
>>
>>152032939
It's actually kinda funny because I'm sure they're just gonna be using the inevitable crossover to reset DC, again, and this whole softening period where the invincible edgy bad guys get beat up ridiculously quick with minimal aftereffects
>>
>>152032991
They need to reset the brand again. But at this point, I think they realize why bother? DC (or Marvel) will never change the way they conduct business, so everything they release is moot.

Fans have clamored for a new universe, that starts at a #1, and takes these characters, updates them for the audience in 2026, tells a coherent, well paced adult story, and doesn't rely on cheap shock value or retreading old storylines. But it's just never going to happen.
>>
>>152033024
>Fans have clamored for a new universe,
No they haven't, what a completely astroturfed thing to say.
>>
>>152032508
The issue that took place in space looked pretty good.
>>
>>152032701
If Absolute Batman isn't getting the axe, then neither GL nor Superman should. Flash, as the other pointed out, is incredibly boring, should go away,
>>
So what are Guy and John doing during all of this?
>>
>>152033041
Yet they have? And DC has promised it and always fucked it up. Earth-One, Black Label, Absolute, course correction of N52 with Rebirth. People want a "where do I start reading? Oh, issue 1?" instead of "Well, start at 59 then read 68-72 then pick up issues 12, 15, and 17-18 of this title, and then go back and pick up issue 101-102 of that title, and make sure to grab issues 68-81 of this title, and this annual 2 and that annual 4 to get the whole idea!"
>>
>>152032146
>east v west faggot starting shit
>>
>>152033094
No, you're conflating first issues with new universes which is stupid as shit. No fan is saying to themselves "no what would make comics easier to follow? A whole new continuity to follow along with."
>or and if you could also make this new universe depend on parallelisms with all the comics that came before this too
>>
>>152033177
>He says in a thread dealing with a new universe.
>>
>>152033177
My personal take on continuity is that I think it should barely matter, the stories should just run under the assumption that the popular known stories are mostly canon and fill in the blanks if needed, canon is so overrated in comic books.
>>
>>152032821
You're entitled to your opinion, I'm not really sure its as binary as that though. I just went through the first 6 chapters and there definitely is a growth from him. He started off a refuge mourning the loss of his home and all he cares about, he thought he could find a life here but that was stamped out by Lazarus. So he ran and hid and helped where he could and ultimately that led to him attracting the attention of not just enemies but those inspired by his actions. In Smallville he got to see his actions make people better, more willing to stand up for what is right and just, and through that he was able to win. Now he's no longer a refuge on the run helping simply because its his nature, hes a hero fighting to make his home a better place for the people of his new home.
>>
>>152032413
Nice, now GL is starting to feel like an Absolute book
>>
>>152033217
Continuity SHOULD matter because it's not just trivia and obscure facts but consistency in who the character is and what they've been through.
>>
>>152033286
There is no consistency that any human could adhere to over 100 years of batman, there is no reader that could be reasonably aware of every batman story even lets say since the 80s, it's a fools errand.
>>
>>152033344
>There is no consistency that any human could adhere to over 100 years of batman
Yeah, good thing that was literally never a requirement before.
>>
>>152032721

It's weird that he is bringing in new colors so soon. Pink completely shatters the traffic lights metaphor they built up so far. If we were going by main universe logic it would make sense as Hal got Power of Friendship'd to purge him of the black, so this will take some impressive mental gymnastics to twist into something completely different.
>>
>>152033783
Jo and Hal are getting the promised sex they both craved for each other and were deprived courtesy of jo's father looking like sinestro.

Also Carol Ferris is in this issue as Hammond's secretary
>>
>>152033767
I wonder why Hal is keeping the black sclera even as a pink. That's a trait only Sinestro and Abin Sur showed so far, but they may or may not have it as a species trait. Kilowog, Tomar Re, et cetera all had normal white sclera so it isn't something that comes with the color.

>so this will take some impressive mental gymnastics to twist into something completely different.
I'm telling you people, Hal and Todd are/were boyfriends. Ewing will want some gay guys to balance out all the lesbian sex a couple issues ago.

And anyway the whole "action" thing is handled kinda meh and will probably end up either pretty restricting or most of the new ones will probably just blend together with what's already established.
>>
>>152033783
>shatters the traffic lights metaphor they built up so far.
Would that be shattered by the fact that gold is the top-most important colour instead of green?
>>
>>152033995
It works. It's the difference between a traffic light that went black, and one that's on permanent yellow. Almost the same, but one still follows order.
>>
I can't believe they already flooded the GL book to be as crowded as the mainline GL one already.
>>
Maybe the pink is a "broken"/Rao flames?

>most of the new ones will probably just blend together with what's already established
This is what I’m worried about. Informed/inaction/“correct”/chaotic action is vague enough that it’ll be easy to write a character to fit it and are unique enough but eventually some of the other colors are just gonna be a more specific/niche version of what’s already been established

Not that anon but, it isn't a new start, but it also functionally is because each #1 is effectively the introduction and completely new origin of its alternate version of the heroes. To use Latern as an example, you can read Absolute GL without having ever ready any GL/DC media, and while you won't get little foreshadowing teases or the greater significance of characters (like having a frame of reference for Sinestro, or knowing who Montoya is) nothing in the story actually relies on external knowledge. The individual characters are new starts to their characters, their powers and the complexities of their function are new starts, the plots, the villains, the politics and factions, the relationships. Everything is new except for the lurking meta framing that the universe in which all of it is happening is itself part of a larger ongoing story.

Thanks for the well thought out answer, anon. Put it better than I could have. I started without knowing much at all about Wonder Woman and now I'm reading Perez' stuff and having fun seeing the contrasts. Something like Batman I've absorbed things through osmosis and the tv shows but now it's inspiring me to spend the time waiting to check out Year One etc. The crazy designs got some of my nieces and nephews to read the comics, too. Mostly AWW and Bats but that's more than they read last year.

I liked the Abs Superman issue honestly, Kal is someone actually interesting to follow along here now. Brainiac if he thought he was da jokah baby is a bit weird but it works for this story I guess.

Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what pink was and Hal turns pink from either Jo getting her ass beat by Obsidian or learning Obsidian is Todd. Ewing cutting Hal off with “you killed my—“ with regards to Todd is pretty sus considering Jo and John were discussed no problem. He could’ve easily just finished with friend but he didn’t. And Todd being sure Hal and only Hal wouldn’t leave him is less sus but still kinda sus considering others were also present.

The scenes from >>152033955 from what I gather. Also from how Guy, John, Hal, and Jo were childhood friends whereas Todd seemed to have been absorbed later on even if that one has other simple explanations.

I do not care for the Absolute series.

I feel like the origin stretched on for too long and was dragging it's feet with Lazarus corp but this and last issue have turned it around for me, Absolute Supes is finally up and running.

Or Hal is going the Kyle route and is gonna end up having all the colors so he can stay relevant as a deuteragonist and help Ewing explain all the other colors

I think the magenta is just a stylized red, because otherwise, it would introduce too many undeveloped concepts.

I was never into Green Lantern. And the choice of main character wasn't appealing because it was one of them I wasn't familiar with, so I passed it over. I wasn't expecting it to actually be this good and I guess I have to get caught up on it now.
>>
>>152034528
>Not posting green lantern variant, they are really bad, tumblr tier
You weren't kidding. I feel like DC cares about AGL the least. It usually has the worst variants and they barely promote it compared to the others.
>>
>>152042164
Tbh honest I'd just pick up from the issue a few back that Riley Rossmo drew, that's when business picks up

Variant artist don't actually read the books
It's how we get Bruce looking like he's 40 or art shipping 6160 Black Cat with Peter even though she's a teenager around his son's age
This is doubly true for Absolute Green Lantern because the variant artists genuinely can't come up with anything better than just "Jo standing there with green around her"
>>
>>152042299
I thought Bruce was like 40.

He meant that

>>
>>152042374
Oh, yeah, okay I wasn't following the throughline of his argument that makes a lot more sense, obviously absolute bruce is in his early to mid 20s, I'd just caught up with mainline batman this morning so it was the predominant bruce in my minds eye.
>>
>>152042361
I mean, his ice breath also makes fuckall sense. May as well eat fire now. Go nuts.

Also, is the point of that page to show that Cyclops is an idiot who doesn't understand plate tectonics and thinks he can just blast it with piss (concussive)?
>>
>>152042299
Good cover art came from when people would actually see them poking out of a spinner rack and would sell you on the book, now they just exist for the collector market, I don't really blame the hired artists for not wanting to read every single book they do a variant for, that'd be an impossible standard to set.
>>
>>152036647
batman offworld was decent
I enjoyed secret invasion wakanda mini
>>
>>152042422
Honestly?
I'd blame whoever is in charge of consistency at DC when it comes to at least getting basic shit right

>>
>>152042577
Maybe kryptonians evolved to have a larger arm span in this universe to assist in flight, did you ever think about that anon?? No you didn't

>>
>>152032212
>>152032231
I like this slow wearing down with prayers of all things Superman is doing with Ra's. Didn't really care for their actual fight once it finally happened so I like seeing there is a sort of second confrontation between the two here. I'm kind of surprised apparently his shareholders had control of the Lazurus pit and were able to keep it from him though.
>>
>>152032236
Fantastic issue. Absolute Superman finally gets a damn chance to do Superman stuff and it's pretty good. Even when it's setting up the wear being the Superman has on him. Ties in Ra's and his fate. And it even ends with Braniac about to do some fuckery. Fuck did it take a while to get going but I feel like we're getting somewhere now.
>>
>>152042783
I like how you can visibly see his real age catching up with him
>>
>>152032154
I like that everyone in Smallvile knows who Clark is and what he's doing. It's neat.

>>
>>152033024
Isn't that what Absolute is? And it seems to be paying off well because of it.
>>
>>152034528
So these variant covers are usually just bait but it is kind of funny how they have Hawkman and Superman both fighting and fighting together on these. Considering he was setup in Absolute Evil I wonder what the goal with him is going to be.
>>
>>152038211
He's about to get Braniac-ed it looks like.
>>
>>152042864
It's a good visual. Shows him weakening as both time and his actions are catching up to him. It's surprisingly interesting way to go about finalizing Superman and Ra's conflict. Makes Superman reading those prayers into both a rehabilitation and reading of Ra's last rites. Which is a lot more impactful than I thought we'd get out of him from what he's been doing so far.
>>
>>152032333
The Krypton parts in the earlier issues were boring as fuck, this book wasted way too much time on those. Now that it's past them it's way better.
>>
Haven't read Absolute Flash or Green Lantern, and MM is doing its own thing, but I've really liked the characterization of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman in these books. Feels refreshing, for each of them.
>>
>>152032231
He looks like Castro
>>
>>152042864
Yeah, and he does look completely defeated by the end. Not even ranting and insulting anyone, just sitting here.
I think that Superman's persistent visits work because Ra's is also coming to terms with his own impending death. Like he's accepting that it's not going to be a grand spectacle in service of some idea, but just his body giving out in this cell, while he's all alone and his schizo empire turns on itself.
Probably one of the most straightforward examples of "dude genuinely thought he's the main character of the entire world".

>If Absolute Batman isn't getting the axe
absolute batman is the most popular comic DC has had in 20 years
>>
>>152033086
>“According to figures shared with The Hollywood Reporter, the Absolute Universe line of monthly comics has sold over 8.2 million units in total, not accounting for December sales. Absolute Batman, the flagship title, makes up around 35 percent, close to 3 million, of that total. The first issue of Absolute Batman continues to sell well and is now in its 10th printing, while the latest issue, Absolute Batman No. 15, has orders of over 300,000.”

Why would they get rid of any of them
>>
>>152043364
Someone did the math
>If AbsBat 15 is at 300K that tells you Batman makes up 60 percent of the sales if not more. 300K times 15 (and the first issue is much higher) gets you to 50 percent of all the absolute line’s sales.
>Honestly 8 million over ~50 issues across all titles isnt that good. Especially if you remove Batman that leaves you with 4.6 for ~35 issues.
>It’s a success but a meager one rather than an explosive one
>>
>>152043644
It's pretty explosive considering both regular (ie non tie in/crossover) new 52 and rebirth Batman issues capped out around 100k-110k units when comichron was a thing and that was considered the height of DC's success (excluding events of course) and was usually the benchmark for floppy sales in general due to how consistent it was (https://www.cbr.com/comic-book-sales-data-explained/). And then the rest of their franchises/books were selling either mediocre or like shit compared to Batman and marvel.

So 50 issues having 8 million units is a big improvement especially since it's spread out across multiple franchises and within one year.

>>152032231
So is the implication this interaction with Hawkman already happened or is it happening? The way it's framed makes it look like him going into the sky and screaming already happened and passed.
>>
>>152043897
Him reading poetry to Ra's already happened, Hawkman is happening now is how I see it

Anon, Batman makes up a third, not 60%.
300.000 × 3 = 900.000 total.
(900.000 - 300.000) = 600.000.
600.000 ÷ 5 = 120.000.
