>>152032409Actually it's the right order because as far as we know, Goldface doesn't have any other powers besides shapeshifting and the intel he got from her so far indicates that she's basically a one woman army if left unchecked, so preemptively incapacitating her is the actual only way to be 100% sure he could take her down.

>>152032161>>152032193Global warming? No. Believe it or not, Darkside just like the weather.
>>152032207How tall is he? Before this issue he was mostly show being towered over, but here he looks a fair bit taller than Lana. We thinking like 5'10 but still growing? Definitely much shorter than Bruce and Diana whenever he meets them.
These 2 are the worst absolutes and need to get axed already
>>152032368In a way he already has the look to fill the Joker role, & he's insane. So yeah
>>152032193This is some amazing artwork.
>>152032701AGL has been good for like 6 issues now, get with the program. It's Flash that keeps sucking.
>>152032701No way in hell they're axing superman, it sells. Green Lantern on the other hand...
>>152032721The trade was DC's 4th best selling trade in December, above Absolute Flash
>>152032730That's interesting, it's in a similar situation as Ultimate X-men, very strong trade book I guess.
>>152032701you mad
>>152032734Probably, the first arc reads better in one sitting and even if it's still overshadowed by basically every other Absolute book the general consensus is it's a lot better than the first couple issues whereas Flash's consensus is still "it's slow as fuck"
>>152032745The flash being the slowest book is actually very funny, though.
>>152032456hal is changing to the color pink in #12 so if the cover isn’t just bait it’s probably hal pulling new colors out of his ass to save todd/bring him back to lifehim becoming obsidian is probably what is gonna get hal out of the coma too
>>152032333Honestly I'd say this is really the first time Kal has been Superman. The last 14 volumes were really just his origin of him becoming that which is greater than himself.
>>152032766do wonder how Ewing got to contextualise Pink in his current colour spectrum. I guess it also leaves room for Blue and orange as well
>>152032778How Ewing will contextualise*
>>152032701Nah, GL has gotten a lot better and shit is actually happening now.Flash however needs the axe because barely anything has happened and other than Elenore and Barry eye fucking each other what IS happening kinda sucks.
>>152032768Call me an asshole but I don't think the last 14 issues have been an arc as so much of a switch, which to me is just a reminder of how artifice this entire setup is.
>Bad art>Bad pacing>Bad writing>People eat this upJesus.
>>152032778Cyan/blue does seem to be coming. The cheating issue had a few blue panels in it. There were also one or two indigo/purpley panels in that same issue.>Jo = Green>Guy = Red>John = yellow>Hal = pink (or returning to black if Todd is staying dead)>Todd = black (assuming he isn't staying dead)>Alan = implied to be dead>Simon = a fed>Kyle = "pretty high" odds of appearing>Jessica = didn't answer any AMA questions regarding her showing upWho should get the blue/cyan and indigo/purple?
>>152032906It's because the mainline is even worse.
>>152032919Grim.
oooh another hater, so edgy
>>152032939It's actually kinda funny because I'm sure they're just gonna be using the inevitable crossover to reset DC, again, and this whole softening period where the invincible edgy bad guys get beat up ridiculously quick with minimal aftereffects
>>152032991They need to reset the brand again. But at this point, I think they realize why bother? DC (or Marvel) will never change the way they conduct business, so everything they release is moot. Fans have clamored for a new universe, that starts at a #1, and takes these characters, updates them for the audience in 2026, tells a coherent, well paced adult story, and doesn't rely on cheap shock value or retreading old storylines. But it's just never going to happen.
>>152033024>Fans have clamored for a new universe, No they haven't, what a completely astroturfed thing to say.
>>152032508The issue that took place in space looked pretty good.
>>152032701If Absolute Batman isn't getting the axe, then neither GL nor Superman should. Flash, as the other pointed out, is incredibly boring, should go away,
So what are Guy and John doing during all of this?
>>152033041Yet they have? And DC has promised it and always fucked it up. Earth-One, Black Label, Absolute, course correction of N52 with Rebirth. People want a "where do I start reading? Oh, issue 1?" instead of "Well, start at 59 then read 68-72 then pick up issues 12, 15, and 17-18 of this title, and then go back and pick up issue 101-102 of that title, and make sure to grab issues 68-81 of this title, and this annual 2 and that annual 4 to get the whole idea!"
>>152032146>east v west faggot starting shit
>>152033094No, you're conflating first issues with new universes which is stupid as shit. No fan is saying to themselves "no what would make comics easier to follow? A whole new continuity to follow along with.">or and if you could also make this new universe depend on parallelisms with all the comics that came before this too
>>152033177>He says in a thread dealing with a new universe.
>>152033177My personal take on continuity is that I think it should barely matter, the stories should just run under the assumption that the popular known stories are mostly canon and fill in the blanks if needed, canon is so overrated in comic books.
>>152032821You're entitled to your opinion, I'm not really sure its as binary as that though. I just went through the first 6 chapters and there definitely is a growth from him. He started off a refuge mourning the loss of his home and all he cares about, he thought he could find a life here but that was stamped out by Lazarus. So he ran and hid and helped where he could and ultimately that led to him attracting the attention of not just enemies but those inspired by his actions. In Smallville he got to see his actions make people better, more willing to stand up for what is right and just, and through that he was able to win. Now he's no longer a refuge on the run helping simply because its his nature, hes a hero fighting to make his home a better place for the people of his new home.
>>152032413Nice, now GL is starting to feel like an Absolute book
>>152033217Continuity SHOULD matter because it's not just trivia and obscure facts but consistency in who the character is and what they've been through.
>>152033286There is no consistency that any human could adhere to over 100 years of batman, there is no reader that could be reasonably aware of every batman story even lets say since the 80s, it's a fools errand.
>>152033344>There is no consistency that any human could adhere to over 100 years of batmanYeah, good thing that was literally never a requirement before.
>>152032721Meanwhile last month Absolute Green Lantern was #25 and would've been #19 if not for the DC's event and both of the mainline GL books are lucky to reach #100.
>>152032402Any proof that Hal and Jo here were going to be lovers since they were kids was proven here. And since Darkseid loves twists.
>>152033524It's unrequited anon, Darkseid wants maximum suffering for Jo.
>>152033559Jo Mullein, Darkseid's greatest enemy?
>>152032444Surprisingly good issue. I'm shocked.
>>152032906Because it has the Absolute label on it. That will carry the bad books for a few years.
>>152033041DC fans have wanted their on Ultimate Universe in monthly ongoings for 20+ years. DC would just never do it and only do thinks like Earth One of the New 52, which was some weird half reboot.
>>152032413What is it with the Absolute heroes and stabbing the eyes out of their enemies?
>>152032778>>152032766Maybe its a transitional period between Black and Red? Or its just for style.
>>152032778It's weird that he is bringing in new colors so soon. Pink completely shatters the traffic lights metaphor they built up so far. If we were going by main universe logic it would make sense as Hal got Power of Friendship'd to purge him of the black, so this will take some impressive mental gymnastics to twist into something completely different.
>>152033783Jo and Hal are getting the promised sex they both craved for each other and were deprived courtesy of jo's father looking like sinestro. Also Carol Ferris is in this issue as Hammond's secretary
>>152033767I wonder why Hal is keeping the black sclera even as a pink. That's a trait only Sinestro and Abin Sur showed so far, but they may or may not have it as a species trait. Kilowog, Tomar Re, et cetera all had normal white sclera so it isn't something that comes with the color.
>>152033783>so this will take some impressive mental gymnastics to twist into something completely different.I'm telling you people, Hal and Todd are/were boyfriends. Ewing will want some gay guys to balance out all the lesbian sex a couple issues ago.And anyway the whole "action" thing is handled kinda meh and will probably end up either pretty restricting or most of the new ones will probably just blend together with what's already established.
>>152033783>shatters the traffic lights metaphor they built up so far.Would that be shattered by the fact that gold is the top-most important colour instead of green?
>>152033995It works. It's the difference between a traffic light that went black, and one that's on permanent yellow. Almost the same, but one still follows order.
I can't believe they already flooded the GL book to be as crowded as the mainline GL one already.
Maybe the pink is a "broken"/Rao flames?
>>152033936>That's a trait only Sinestro and Abin Sur showed so far, but they may or may not have it as a species trait.Sinestro is Abin Aur too.
>>152033177I got back into comics because of the Ultimate-like continuity shit going on. The fresh start is nice
>>152034116That isn't it either. Arisia and the others were also Abins, but they had normal eyes.
>>152032234Hoh boy
>>152034164I am pretty sure they were Air, disciples.
>>152032391>Ouch, right in the gold nuggets!
>>152032234The ultra-Fed is hereI still want AMM to eventually cross-over as Hawkman’s backup because John is labeled as the weirdo Fed who isn’t scared of aliens, magic and freaks.
>>152033955>most of the new ones will probably just blend together with what's already establishedThis is what I’m worried about. Informed/inaction/“correct”/chaotic action is vague enough that it’ll be easy to write a character to fit it and are unique enough but eventually some of the other colors are just gonna be a more specific/niche version of what’s already been established
>>152034205Nah, they were Abins. And I also don't think Hal is gaining instant mastery of every color. So maybe it IS just rule of cool. I mean, it does look cool. In a very anime way.

>>152034675Not that anon but, it isn't a new start, but it also functionally is because each #1 is effectively the introduction and completely new origin of its alternate version of the heroes. To use Latern as an example, you can read Absolute GL without having ever ready any GL/DC media, and while you won't get little foreshadowing teases or the greater significance of characters (like having a frame of reference for Sinestro, or knowing who Montoya is) nothing in the story actually relies on external knowledge. The individual characters are new starts to their characters, their powers and the complexities of their function are new starts, the plots, the villains, the politics and factions, the relationships. Everything is new except for the lurking meta framing that the universe in which all of it is happening is itself part of a larger ongoing story.
>>152033577Tbh, OA itself got downgraded. In the Darkseid-verse, they are a weird religion and they are actually losing against MU.

>>152034943Thanks for the well thought out answer, anon. Put it better than I could have. I started without knowing much at all about Wonder Woman and now I'm reading Perez' stuff and having fun seeing the contrasts. Something like Batman I've absorbed things through osmosis and the tv shows but now it's inspiring me to spend the time waiting to check out Year One etc. The crazy designs got some of my nieces and nephews to read the comics, too. Mostly AWW and Bats but that's more than they read last year.
I liked the Abs Superman issue honestly, Kal is someone actually interesting to follow along here now. Brainiac if he thought he was da jokah baby is a bit weird but it works for this story I guess.Abs GL was pretty disappointing, expected Goldface to be less of a pushover going by last month's issue. >>152033024Isn't that what Absolute is? And it seems to be paying off well because of it.
>>152034528So these variant covers are usually just bait but it is kind of funny how they have Hawkman and Superman both fighting and fighting together on these. Considering he was setup in Absolute Evil I wonder what the goal with him is going to be.
>>152038211He's about to get Braniac-ed it looks like.
>>152042864It's a good visual. Shows him weakening as both time and his actions are catching up to him. It's surprisingly interesting way to go about finalizing Superman and Ra's conflict. Makes Superman reading those prayers into both a rehabilitation and reading of Ra's last rites. Which is a lot more impactful than I thought we'd get out of him from what he's been doing so far.
>>152032333The Krypton parts in the earlier issues were boring as fuck, this book wasted way too much time on those. Now that it's past them it's way better.
Haven't read Absolute Flash or Green Lantern, and MM is doing its own thing, but I've really liked the characterization of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman in these books. Feels refreshing, for each of them.
>>152032231He looks like Castro
>>152042864Yeah, and he does look completely defeated by the end. Not even ranting and insulting anyone, just sitting here. I think that Superman's persistent visits work because Ra's is also coming to terms with his own impending death. Like he's accepting that it's not going to be a grand spectacle in service of some idea, but just his body giving out in this cell, while he's all alone and his schizo empire turns on itself. Probably one of the most straightforward examples of "dude genuinely thought he's the main character of the entire world".
>>152033086>If Absolute Batman isn't getting the axeabsolute batman is the most popular comic DC has had in 20 years
>>152033086>“According to figures shared with The Hollywood Reporter, the Absolute Universe line of monthly comics has sold over 8.2 million units in total, not accounting for December sales. Absolute Batman, the flagship title, makes up around 35 percent, close to 3 million, of that total. The first issue of Absolute Batman continues to sell well and is now in its 10th printing, while the latest issue, Absolute Batman No. 15, has orders of over 300,000.” Why would they get rid of any of them
>>152043364Someone did the math>If AbsBat 15 is at 300K that tells you Batman makes up 60 percent of the sales if not more. 300K times 15 (and the first issue is much higher) gets you to 50 percent of all the absolute line’s sales.>Honestly 8 million over ~50 issues across all titles isnt that good. Especially if you remove Batman that leaves you with 4.6 for ~35 issues.>It’s a success but a meager one rather than an explosive one
>>152043644It's pretty explosive considering both regular (ie non tie in/crossover) new 52 and rebirth Batman issues capped out around 100k-110k units when comichron was a thing and that was considered the height of DC's success (excluding events of course) and was usually the benchmark for floppy sales in general due to how consistent it was (https://www.cbr.com/comic-book-sales-data-explained/). And then the rest of their franchises/books were selling either mediocre or like shit compared to Batman and marvel. So 50 issues having 8 million units is a big improvement especially since it's spread out across multiple franchises and within one year.
>>152032234>>152032231So is the implication this interaction with Hawkman already happened or is it happening? The way it's framed makes it look like him going into the sky and screaming already happened and passed.
>>152043897Him reading poetry to Ra's already happened, Hawkman is happening now is how I see it
>>152043644>Umm the absolute series is barely succeeding actually No one believes this.
>>152032188This is the most Portland thing I've ever read.
>>152043644>SomeoneYou mean you
>>152043130I agree. Well, Wonder Woman is the same as always character-wise, but everything else has been original enough to feel lovely
>>152041748There were a lot of blue panels a couple issues and Ewing had an AMA where he said could see cyan so other colors are probably coming
>>152032146>retailer interviewed said Superman is the only Absolute trade still in print currently>the rest are having to be reprinted (Batman’s trade reprinted multiple times already)I don’t feel so good Superbros… how would we lose to GLand Flash…
>>152032212>>152032221Ras looks less turkish and more brown jewish, what did Jason (((Aarons))) meant by that? Is he one of the good ones?
>>152044826Retailer, as in singular? Is there any good reason to believe the Absolute Superman trade isn't selling?
>>152042777I like Wally's design though it's definitely more Kid Flash than FlashEveryone is so young in this universe, I feel like we might get a timeskip at some point, it is apparently based somewhat on popular manga and that's a popular shounen manga gimmick
>>152032440>>152032444So Hector gonna be Sinestro Black Lantern....
>>152032165About time someone took down Todd and his garbage overpiced plastic slop.
>>152044997I just checked IST and CGN and it seems easy to get a copy of all the books.
>>152032413Chase's kitchen has a really high ceiling.
>>152032423Simon wasn't wearing the ski mask at the wedding?
>>152043644Anon, Batman makes up a third, not 60%.300.000 × 3 = 900.000 total.(900.000 - 300.000) = 600.000.600.000 ÷ 5 = 120.000.
>>152046800So it's safe or not?
>none of these mysterious and terrifying origins for Joker are true and he's a super evil guy with a lot of power but a total bitch physically and Bruce beats the shit out of him with ease>an Absolute Joke, if you will
>>152047771It's good
>>152047771If the absolute line isn't safe literally no comics will ever be made again that don't star Batman.
>>152046800I'm still surprised to hear Batman is making up a third of all the sales. Yeah the sales are good but I would have thought Superman at least would have rivaled it.
>>152048639How expensive is the Absolute Batman #1 again, it's at 140 or so? 160? It feels like I'm in the 90s again
>>152048932Superman has a slow start
